Online Ambassador, Spring 2012

Hi, Mike! As you may know, the Wikipedia Education Program has instilled a new set of standards that courses must meet to officially join the program for the semester. As you can see, one of the requirements is that at least one ambassador or professor is a Wikipedian, as this should give students more access to helpful information about contributing to Wikipedia and creating good content. You are listed on the Online Ambassador page; are you still interested in remaining active this semester? Some of these classes will have to remove themselves from the program should they fail to meet these standards, but we would like to ensure that new students are receiving proper support during the editing process. Please let me know if you are still interested in mentoring these students this semester and/or visit the Online Ambassador talk page to select a course that still needs an Online Ambassador. Unexplained deletion from Iguana Article

Please explain why you deleted my addition to the Species Status section of the Iguana article, such addition describing the proposed eradication of iguanas from Puerto Rico. Thank you. CountMacula (talk) 02:32, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I guess you didn't understand that my remark immediately above is supposed to explain why my original ref was inferior and why you shouldn't have trashed the two I added later. It might have helped had we put all our correspondence on this topic in a single place rather than jumping between our two talk pages. I suppose I should have started the discussion on the article's talk page. Maybe it would have helped for you to make some attempt at a comment upon your original deletion of my addition, eh? Since the Iguana article is supposed to describe only the two species of the genus Iguana, it would seem that the the catalog of extant genera and species of family Iguanidae at the bottom of the Iguana article should be moved or removed. 07:15, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Gun Control Pages via Wiki Firearms project

Mike, It seems strange to have gun control pages under the tutelage of the Firearms project, where so many active contributors are biased against gun control due to personal or financial interests in the firearms industry. As a progressive it is frustrating to see so much bias and misinformation on Wikipedia regarding gun control leaders, efforts and organizations. It's been my observation that those who are biased are highly engaged, active and motivated and have influenced these pages in subtle but pernicious ways. I have a talking point on your change to the Brady Campaign Page. The reason I removed the old quote was because it was out of context, of questionable relevance, and presented in a biased way. It seems you think the Wikipedia page should cast doubt on the credibility of the leading organization for gun control? Even the headline "Stated Mission" is misleading and redundant since the mission is stated in the into. Perhaps you should move the quote to the criticism section, or present it as a criticism? So given your view of history, would any quote, by any past leader of an organization, taken out of context, be fair as a major counterpoint related to an organization's "stated mission"? How about we change that section title to say "Quotes of past leaders" instead of the bias from "stated mission" with the quote as a counter point?

I'm come from a progressive POV and don't put any significance on biased propaganda that the gun industry puts out, such as the "Scary" sounding quote that with context means that the organization is fighting to have all guns to be lawfully licensed, registered and no guns in the illegal market.

I agree with your efforts to prevent clearly biased wiki "activists", and vandalism in general... but I have to say we need to recognize that our own biases are evident in the content as well. Cooldavid (talk) 21:36, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

komodo dragon article

I saw that... after I sent you the email. The photos posted from that account are problematic as well. All claiming to be his own work, from book covers to company logos to snapshots and autographs.
