you will be missed

[edit]

Hi, Hope you come back some day. You've been seemingly prolific on Central Ohio articles and will be missed! 9H48F (talk) 09:33, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I deeply concur. It was a pleasure collaborating with you, Ɱ.

Thank you for your years of good work on Wikipedia. Andre🚐 21:31, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is indeed unfortunate; we New Yorkers have especially fond memories. Yes, the Commons copyright police make many hasty mistakes, in part because they are few, have many real violations to handle, and can move more quickly if they peremptorily dismiss objections. I have learned to be cautious and not to contest them when the consequences of the error are not great, but I have not carefully followed your encounters. Since you have apparently maintained your resolve to quit, I won't take time to study the record carefully. Like others, I hope you do well in less annoying endeavors. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:00, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You did a ton of good work here. Your articles are holding up well. Do well, be happy. Don't let jealous and small people hurt you. Andre🚐 07:08, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry you've decided to walk away. I also get irritated by WP pettiness and the jobsworth attitude of some editors. You have made a positive contribution to the project, and I hope you return at some stage. --Ef80 (talk) 18:35, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to miss the chance to collaborate on the Supreme Court lede with you - thanks for raising the issue of it not citing any controversies Superb Owl (talk) 02:46, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note

[edit]

I have removed the {{Do not move to Commons}} template at File:Columbus, Ohio 1963 03.tif since you have declared yourself inactive on both enwiki and commons, so there's no point following the request. If you ever become active again, feel free to add the request back in. — MATRIX! (a good person!)[Citation not needed at all; thank you very much!] 13:55, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Have added the request back (since Mj must have had a good reason to request this). Randy Kryn (talk) 13:59, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Randy Kryn: I'm pretty sure the main reason was a general dislike towards Commons, as evidenced here and here. I don't think that's really a solid reason, but I don't feel like getting into unnecessary drama for a user that already left the project. — MATRIX! (a good person!)[Citation not needed at all; thank you very much!] 14:33, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Matr1x-101 you can sign me up for a general dislike of Commons in removing major images without also having a policy of "When a major image is removed, the removing editor should also add it to English Wikipedia if it has long-time use there". Maybe that's something that should be taken into consideration when removing such a request (and please leave it up, just because Mj is taking a total or for-now wikibreak shouldn't mean that his requests go up in smoke yes on 2). Randy Kryn (talk) 14:41, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Randy Kryn: No idea what you mean in that first sentence. If a high quality not-out-of-scope image was deleted from commons, it was probably for copyright concerns and it therefore can't be moved to enwiki either. But whatever, if I'm being honest I can't be bothered to deal with this. — MATRIX! (a good person!)[Citation not needed at all; thank you very much!] 15:45, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many images have been deleted which would qualify under U.S. copyright, hence the suggested addition to acceptable Commons practice. No need for you to act on it, time permitting (10 minutes to formulate a new Commons policy?), just speaking for MJ who hopefully will speaketh for himself again at some point. Question about the bullet hole in the Grand Central clock.

[edit]

Thank you for your excellent work debunking myths of GCT. In Sam Robert's book on Grand Central (paperback p140), in describing the 1968 Yip-In, he writes: "They were dispersed by nightstick-wielding police officers after they hurled firecrackers and spun the hands off the information booth's priceless four-faced opalescent glass clock. (Another of its faces was later pierced by a bullet, apparently fired by a police officer in pursuit. That face is now at the Transit Museum.)" When he says "later" do we know that it was later during the Yippie event? Or just at a later time and date? The Untapped Cities blog post paraphrases his description as definitely part of the Yip-In, but I cannot find confirmation either way. Darby23shire (talk) 19:37, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Darby23shire: FYI, Ɱ has retired from Wikipedia (and hasn't edited since August). So they're very unlikely to answer your question. Cremastra (talk) 20:43, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, it *can't* be!

[edit]

Hey, "Square" - that's how (for years) your name used to display on my system, just a faint empty square. I took to calling you that because otherwise you had no name...it was "invisible" everywhere to me.

Tell me you haven't quit! I'm skipping reading page histories to find out why, but you were one of the Great Wikipedians. A bit, uh, willful, but the quality of your work more than made up for it. Heck, just the quality of your pictures did. That series of the Golden Gate...it's like being there, only being somewhere you're never ever going to get on your own. Fantastic.

I'm not going to try to persuade you to come back - though I hope you do. But could you please, would you please, be open to *unblanking* your home page...so that others can recognize what an incredible asset you were to this encyclopedia, and still enjoy and draw from and upon the work you did here. It certainly can't hurt (but maybe some bruised pride), but may well help further the message you have put in its place.

OK, have your say on the way out. You earned it. But can't you just leave that as a sort of preface, or banner, and reinstate the rest as it was? You'd be doing everyone - including yourself - a huge service. Sure, such an effort having somewhat the properties of a "public good", won't let you do so and easily exclude the punkinheads who don't deserve it from profiting alongside everyone else who wasn't part of driving you away. It would be great if you could, but please don't let that get stop you from doing it for everyone else. Your oeuvre is monstrous. Monstrous in size, and monstrous good. And should not disappear down some crummy digital memory hole because of some jerks.

Don't let them win. And don't prevent others from learning what has been lost.

All the best. Your old pal, 2601:196:180:DC0:D898:A82A:B33E:184F (talk) 21:00, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, you currently have a user script installed from Anne drew Andrew and Drew. Several weeks ago, I changed my username to Anne drew, and unfortunately, due to an issue with script redirects, the scripts you have installed under my old username no longer function.

To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew with Anne drew.

If any of this is unclear, please ping Anne drew for help. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!

Thanks – Anne drew
