WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

MDanielsBot pull request for patch due to breaking change

Since you don't seem to be very active on Wikipedia and GitHub at the moment, thought I'd cross-post by GitHub pull request in hopes that I'd catch you at at least one of the two places: https://github.com/mdaniels5757/MDanielsBot-MarkAdminsListUpdater/pull/2. For context, please see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) § oversight group renamed (permalink). If you're not available to patch this, someone will likely have to fork the bot. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 16:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

In addition to this there is also https://github.com/mdaniels5757/enwikiMarkAdmins/pull/1 which is required as well -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 20:31, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

You've been unsubscribed from the Feedback Request Service

Hi Mdaniels5757! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over six months.

In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in six months.

You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:

  1. Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
  2. Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
  3. Paste {{Frs user|Mdaniels5757|limit}} underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
  4. Publish the page.

If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.

Note that if you had a rename and left your old name subscribed to the FRS, you may be receiving this message on your new username's talk page still. If so, make sure your new account name is subscribed to the FRS, using the same procedure mentioned above.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on the Feedback Request Service bot's operator's talk page. Thank you! Message delivered to you with love by Yapperbot :) | Is this wrong? Contact my bot operator. | Sent at 18:01, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi Mdaniels5757! You're receiving this notification because you were previously listed on the AFC's participants list, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over 6 months. Because of your inactivity, you have been removed from the list. If you would like to regain access to the AFCH script, you can do so at any time by visiting WT:AFCP. Thank you for your work at AFC, and if you start editing Wikipedia again we hope you will rejoin us. Message delivered to you with love by Yapperbot :) | Is this wrong? Technical news

  • The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.

Hi @Minorax! I was on a wikibreak, but actually just started back up. MDanielsBot's tasks updating markAdmins data have been fixed, and I'm now monitoring this and all other tasks for more issues. Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 12:37, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
I have one quick request, if you don't mind: because the oversight group was renamed to suppress, the bot updated all users in the data page, but in the core page the group is still labelled as oversight, meaning that none of the people with suppress show up with the OS tag. Would you mind updating it? Thanks, Giraffer (talk·contribs) 09:55, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Possible new sock of Pswank91 (Commons)

Good evening @Mdaniels5757, I hope you're well. I know that it would be more appropiate that I had written you in Commons, but an abuse filter log forbids me to write in your talk page there. I'm writting you because I think that, in Commons the user Pswank91 has reincarnated in SwankPhilipR because this username is quite similar to that used by another Pswank91's sock and, also, some of this user's contributions are similar to those made by a different Pswank91's sock. I'd opened a request to check this user's identity. Can you be able to verify this is correct please? Thanks and best regards. 83.61.243.178 (talk) 19:11, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:10, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Minor MDanielsBot conflict with AIV helperbot

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

I would like to have a conversation with you, @Mdaniels5757. Let me begin by saying that I am a student of microbiology who wishes to learn and practice content writing. During this process, I became aware of Wikipedia and the respected editors who are putting in so much effort to ensure that anyone in the world can obtain information on anything in just a few clicks. As a result, I want to learn how to edit pages on Wikipedia because it is one of the best websites for sharing one's knowledge while learning. So dear mdaniels5757, I acknowledge that I m a beginner and have done mistakes by not licensing the photos nd uploading it on [wikimedia commons] but I want to learn I dont want to get obstructed in such a way sir . . this was not expected from wikipedia foundation and from the senior editors that without a warning or anything all the efforts of someone gets vanished in a number of clicks. Yesterday I was editing an article in my sandbox and I wanted some pictures for it, so I uploaded pictures of the campus and the academic block. And today, I received notification that my account was blocked and that my contribution was taken down by the reason of sockpuppets. Sir let me clarify that this was the most genuine image available on that topic nd there is no intention of doing anything wrong . Sir I have seen thousands of pages on wikipedia and editors who mention a image as their own work and take images from official website and mention it as own work and upload it on wikimedia commons and when you do reverse search on it emerges out as copyright material.

You tell me sir ..is it right that same thing is done in many reputed pages is okay and if done by a newcomer is wrong and then without any warning , everything is gone in matter of time. Sir, I just want you to understand that the material i used was not a copyrighted material, it is publicly available, I just made the mistake of not putting the source link, because I find out that when I put the source link, it was also taken down by saying that it was copyright material. Sir, If I am editing about a university or page is it wrong use their website content like campus , academic block to provide better content. Sir, I created this account so you can hear my point of view and understand me... I hope you will listen to my concern and assist me in this matter. I will wait for your reply... The message regarding this issue is provided below : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Tonystark877 Obvious block evasion. Username similarity, I assume obvious connections in deleted contribs here, but is definitely obvious on Commons (reuploading same files, 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4). — Mdaniels5757 Tonystarkmdaniels57578 (talk) 10:16, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

A goat for you!

Thanks for your help finding that copy of the article for me. The lack of that was blocking Uranium mining in the Bancroft area from reaching Featured Article status, and now it's (hopefully, probably) back on track. This means a lot to me. I appreciate your rapid help.

Stale resource requests

Resource requests with no activity for 90+ days are supposed to be archived automatically, but ClueBot III fails frequently.

For example, sections "Tanystropheus longobardicus (Wild, 1973)" and "Bulletin Du Musée d'anthropologie Préhistorique De Monaco" had gone 103 days and 96 days respectively without any activity. The only activity on 91-day-old section "Dinner at Deviant's Palace" was on 12 May, when I supplied one of the requested items. ClueBot III considers the thread only 40 days old because my post restarted the clock, but that doesn't make operational sense, because my post didn't provide any new information that could be used to fulfill the request, and no one has indicated that they're working on any remaining part of the request.

I see that you've volunteered to try getting the second one, which is great. Can we please mark the other two {{stale}} to get them off the list and jolt ClueBot III back into proper operation? --Worldbruce (talk) 05:28, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

@Worldbruce Sure, done. I mostly wanted to just do the second one anyways. Best. — Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 16:47, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

Miscellaneous

  • Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.
