Martyr's Day in Panama
Hello Matt! First of all, I'm quite surprised that writing anything that one wishes doesn't require explanation but deleting it does. In any case, I had already experienced deleting my corrections even though they were argumented (however, it was in the Russian Wikipedia), so this time I haven't bothered to explain. Furthermore, I've noticed that the "International reactions and aftermath" section doesn't cite any sources but nobody has taken an action since June 2016.
Anyway, I'll try to explain my actions. What I deleted were some phrases that didn't contain any information that was valuable or even corresponding to the topic of the article but rather quite childish attempts to justify Americans actions on January 9 1964 by blaming their opponents of their own faults. Here you can see that:
"Ironically, Panama itself was settled by Spanish colonists who had enslaved the local population and stole their wealth." - Is this an aprropriate wording for an encyclopedia and how it's related to the topic?
"And, contrary to British and French criticisms, Zonians were never allowed to "settle" in the Canal Zone. Zonians were not allowed to purchase or own property there and were forced to leave the Canal Zone upon termination of their employment or in the event of their retirement." - Well, this is rather interesting, yet not substantiated information which anyway has nothing to do with the International reactions section.
"However, the Panama Canal was already a national entity of the United States of America. " - I believe that it's obvious that Nasser proposed Canal's nationalization by Panama so I don't see any meaning for this comment to be here.
"as was typical of the communist propaganda during the cold war." - I don't think we need a user's evaluation of international reactions to the incident.
"contradicting the fact that the U.S. aggressors had not entered into the Republic of Panama, but rather the inverse had happened." - See above. (For my part, I would like to stress that Panama Canal not only wasn't "the U.S." - only 50 states + DC - are, but also it wasn't a US unincorporated territory, like Puerto Rico, for example. Panama Canal was under US jurisdiction but formally still part of Panama). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.184.231.13 (talk) 16:34, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I made a mistake - you're right. I've undone my changes. --Matt11235 (talk) 17:35, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
It's OK, Matt, thank you! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.184.231.13 (talk) 20:43, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
Hi there, although I agree that Toco Folk Museum is likely a candidate for speedy deletion, I did want to draw to your attention the fact that tagging an article moments after creation is a bit bitey and doesn't really assume good faith. This, of course, doesn't apply to things like vandalism or attack pages, but generally giving a new user 10+ minutes is a good rule of thumb. —Non-Dropframe talk 19:55, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'll keep that in mind for the future --Matt11235 (talk) 20:00, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
