Speedy deletion nomination of UGA Fishing Team
[edit]You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
A tag has been placed on UGA Fishing Team requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies.
In lieu of speedy deletion, the article has been turned back into a redirect, pointing to the article on UGA's other sports. —C.Fred (talk) 03:03, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article UGA Fishing Team, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 03:03, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Leave UGA Fishing Team as a redirect, or I will nominate it for deletion. Everard Proudfoot (talk) 06:16, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- I have added text about the team at Georgia Bulldogs#Other sports, including the team's lack of standing as a varsity or club team. UGA Fishing Team is now a redirect to that article. If consensus of editors of the Bulldogs article is that the team is not notable, the text about it is subject to removal from that article. —C.Fred (talk) 14:09, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- If the fishing team is not affiliated with Georgia at all, then it's arguable not a notable organization, so the title should be deleted entirely—no article, no redirected text. —C.Fred (talk) 17:38, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

- Exactly. Because there is no significance or importance apparent in the article, it is subject to speedy deletion. I've asked for another administrator to review the article rather than delete it outright myself.
- If the team were notable, I'd have no problem with it having an article. The problem is, it's not a sanctioned team of the university, and there no evidence that it's been written about in independent reliable sources. Accordingly, it doesn't (or doesn't yet) warrant a Wikipedia article. —C.Fred (talk) 03:12, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of UGA Bass Anglers
[edit]A tag has been placed on UGA Bass Anglers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]A tag has been placed on UGA Fishing Team requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

This is the final warning that you will receive regarding your disruptive edits, such as this edit you made to UGA Fishing Team. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, you will be blocked from editing without further notice. Diego Grez (talk) 20:01, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Please...
[edit]Look at WP:NOTWEBHOST and if your teacher has told you to do things the way you are doing, get him/her to look at it too. You will get blocked from editing if you carry on, and your college could get blocked too if that's where you are editing from. Wikipedia is free to use, but it's NOT free for anything. It's an encyclopaedia and there are rules. Not your teacher's rules - Wikipedia's rules. We are trying to teach you something - listen when people give you good advice.
