DYK for New Columbia (Portland, Oregon)

On 20 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article New Columbia (Portland, Oregon), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1988, Columbia Villa was the site of the first known drive-by shooting in Portland, Oregon? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/New Columbia (Portland, Oregon). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, New Columbia (Portland, Oregon)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your draft article, Draft:Swan Island (Oregon)

Hello, Lord Bolingbroke. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Swan Island".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! JMHamo (talk) 19:27, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Nancy Murdoch, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Telegraph (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 15:12, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi there - I created the article Rachel Gough because (a) she is the principal bassoonist of (arguably) the UK's best-known orchestra; (b) WP articles have tended to focus on male players, most of whom are retired or dead. Are you happy that added content has address the notability question you placed? The FRAM alone (an industry marker of notability) ought to suffice. Many thanks, Millstream3 (talk) 15:31, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

ACC tool access request approved

Thank you for your interest in the account creation process. I have verified that you have signed the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information and approved your request.

You may now access the interface here pending a tool root marking your account as identified in the tool database. Before you begin handling requests, please ensure you have read and understood the account creation guide and username policy to familiarize yourself with the process.

Please subscribe yourself to the private ACC mailing list following the instructions on that page. I also advise that you also join us on IRC #wikipedia-en-accounts connect where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and you can get real time advice on how to handle requests.

Please note failure to correctly assess requests will result in suspension of tool access. Account creation is not a race, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly. Releasing personally identifying information (such as IP and email addresses), whether intentionally or unintentionally, is treated very seriously and will generally result in immediate suspension.

Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, and you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked as "Flagged user needed" on the interface. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Account creator.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome! — JJMC89(T·C) 20:37, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

The play The Serpent as sufficiently notable for Wikipedia article

I am not certain that you received my prior response. If you did, then I have nothing to add. Reasonable minds can disagree. If you did not receive my prior response, I noted that the editor of The Burns Mantle Yearbook: The Best Plays of 1969-1970 selected The Serpent as one of the 10 best plays of the New York theater season. This annual source book has been making such selections since 1894. This selection is noted in the proposed article.Raygauche (talk) 21:34, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Raygauche, if the prior response you're referring to this edit on Flix11's talk page, then no I did not receive it because it is not my talk page. I actually don't have a strong opinion on whether The Serpent is a notable play; however, the current sourcing at Draft:The Serpent (play) is not suitable for a mainspace article. It needs to be based on secondary sources rather than on interviews of people associated with the play. Out of curiosity, are you the person who conducted the interviews? I can't find copies of them on the Primary Stages website. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 04:18, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
Lord Bolingbroke: Thank you for your clarification. I interpreted your original response as indicating that The Serpent was not sufficiently notable for a Wikipedia article. As a result, I only addressed that issue. As to supporting documentation, first of all, thank you for pointing out that the primary stages link did not take one to the oral history project. One actually has to tap on "explore" and then scroll down to the "oral history project." The direct link is www.primarystagesoffcenter.org. The interviews were conducted by individuals connected to Primary Stages; I did not conduct any of the interviews. While I appreciate your concern about secondary sources, I would refer you to the Wikipedia article on The Open Theater. References cited in support of that article include written interviews with members of The Open Theater. An oral interview is more accurate, since one is listening to the interviewee directly without the filter of the interviewer writer. I spent several hours listening to the interviews of members of The Open Theater in the oral history project, taking notes and then trying to condense the notes to key points. I would also note that the description of the process of creating the play could not be found in a secondary source, as only participants were present. If the participants reported the process to an author, who then wrote about the process, the result is really no more than a written interview. As to the description of the play itself, the article could refer the reader to the description in the Wikipedia article for The Open Theater, which by the way cites no reference. Finally, I would add some of the descriptions of the play in the proposed article are from a member of the audience describing what he observed. I am willing to continue to work on this article. However, I am reluctant to work on an article if the subject matter is not sufficiently notable in the first instance. By the way, I began this article because when I clicked on The Serpent in The Open Theater article, I was alternatively invited to write a proposed article.Raygauche (talk) 22:31, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi. I see in a recent addition to Burnley Building Society you included material from a webpage that is available under an Open Government Licence. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this legal requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future.--S Philbrick(Talk) 16:58, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Spoilers (american idol)

There was no spoiler warning on the article, I think the guidelines regarding spoilers needs some reworking, while there can be some little benefit to being spoiled like if you don't have time to watch the full show or something but most people don't like it especially for example, when they are briefly on wiki to get some quick info regarding earlier episodes in the season before they watch the new episode. There should be a courtesy for people on the west coast for shows that air on the east first, we don't need to jump ahead with everything just because they are 1-3 hrs ahead — Preceding unsigned comment added by CorrectBotx (talkcontribs) 05:22, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

yes. please Ali2523 (talk) 11:10, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
@Lord Bolingbroke: Hello again. Yes, exactly I want this English article to be linked to a Persian article. And this article should be available in both languages. Of course, I've written both articles before, but they didn't connect — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ali2523 (talkcontribs) 09:02, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Not done, at least for now. en:Gholamreza Shahhosseini is a complete mess, so I've opted to move it to draftspace for improvement. Start by adding citation info so that each reference doesn't have two or three CS1 errors. Also make sure that all material in the article has inline citation, rather than just including a list of references.
For future reference, generating interlanguage links in the sidebar of an article is done through Wikidata. You had asked me earlier to link en:Fatemeh Sharif to its Persian-language counterpart. I did this at the article's Wikidata item – Fatemeh Sharif (Q65196270) – with this edit, and you can do the same for future articles. Just scroll to the bottom of the Wikidata item where it says "Wikipedia" and add enter the language code and article title you wish to add. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 00:17, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Lord Bolingbroke, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Page mover granted

Hello, Lord Bolingbroke. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! ~Swarm~ {sting} 02:07, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Your reverts on Federico Gozi

Thanks Lord Bolingbroke for reverting them and for telling me why there wrong. Isn't there a policy though for deleting or draftying pages without any sources that haven't been edited in a long time? I'm not too familiar with all of wikipedia's policies so any help would be great! Best regards, Dan the Animator 19:19, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi Dantheanimator, thanks for your cordial response. There isn't a bright-line rule about deleting pages that are unsourced or that haven't been edited for a long time. Just so you're aware, drafitying and speedy deletion are almost always reserved for new articles – not pages that have existed for several years in mainspace without controversy. It's important to keep in mind WP:NEXIST, which says that notability is based on the existence of sources, not on the sources currently in an article. (This is particularly important for topics like 16th century heads of state, where sources may not be readily available online.)
If you don't think these Captains Regent are notable, I personally would start an articles for deletion discussion for one of them. If that AfD is closed with strong consensus to delete, you can start a bundled AfD for the others or tag them for proposed deletion (not WP:BLPPROD, since none of them are living people). Let me know if this answers your question. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 19:40, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you Lord Bolingbroke for your very thorough reply. This definitely answers my question. Thanks for the tremendous help and sorry for all the troubles. Best regards, Dan the Animator 19:50, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
No worries Dantheanimator. I'd be glad to answer any other questions if you do decide to start an AfD. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 20:00, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Len Fisher

On 7 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Len Fisher, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that Len Fisher won the 1999 Ig Nobel Prize for physics for his research on the optimal way to dunk a biscuit? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Len Fisher. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Len Fisher), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Help me with draft review

Hi Lord Bolingbroke, hope you're doing well. I'm having a problem with the draft I created, no one is reviewing it. If you don't mind can you please review the draft Draft:Eric Deters. The subject has a lot of independent news media coverage. Thank you. RASSIOPEIA (talk) 21:01, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

@RASSIOPEIA: My guess why no one has reviewed your draft yet is that it is a paid piece that is clearly supposed to paint Deters in a favorable light. I agree that Deters is notable, but the draft does not give due weight to the controversies he has been involved in. A quick Google News search turns up articles about Deters being fined for unauthorized practice of law, threatening to burn down a courthouse, and other controversies, but none of this is reflected in the draft. I don't think the draft should be moved to mainspace until it more accurately reflects the coverage he has received in the media. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 21:51, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
@Lord Bolingbroke: I'm planning to expand it more accurately according to NPOV once it's in mainspace I can make you sure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RASSIOPEIA (talkcontribs) 08:57, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Once I saw the moves on my watchlist, I was going to simply check "thanks" in the diffs, but then I saw the whole round robin process, which I wasn't aware of (and tbh looks like a pain in the ass). And you did twice in row, so I wanted to post an actual note to say thank you, your efforts are appreciated. Cheers - wolf 23:50, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

You're welcome Thewolfchild. The process of round-robin page swaps confused me a bit when I was first starting out with the page mover tools, but it's not bad once you get the hang of it. I do enjoy keeping an eye on WP:RM/TR since I feel like there's a good effort–reward ratio :) – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 00:05, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Please take care not to redirect a talk page to mainspace. If you want to be a regular helper at WP:RM/TR you really should run for administrator so you can do it without that round-robin kludge. wbm1058 (talk) 22:02, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for fixing my error wbm1058. I double checked some of my other round-robin swaps, and it looks like that's the first time I accidentally redirected to mainspace rather than the proper talk page. I will certainly be more careful going forward. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 01:13, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Daniel Barel deletion

Hello, Lord Bolingbroke! I saw a notification for the page I created when I logged in, read the note on my Talk page, and also read the subsequent deletion conversation. I have gathered some additional sources for an REE Automotive page after my discussion with Mrs. SnoozyTurtle last week, and I am happy to put a draft together to see if it will pass notability. I just want to make sure I do it correctly, because I know there have been some issues in the past; once I have made a draft, is there a different process I should follow for publishing, or should I notify you and/or SnoozyTurtle once the draft is complete for you to review and publish?

Thank you for your help, and guidance on how to proceed (also, if this should have been placed in the deletion discussion page, please let me know and I will repost it). Have a great day! SotoRoto (talk) 18:48, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi SotoRoto, sorry for the late reply. Since there have been issues with undisclosed paid editing in the past, I would recommend creating Draft:REE Automotive and vetting it through our articles for creation process so that it can be reviewed by a neutral editor. Once you have created the draft, just add the code {{subst:submit}} to the top to submit for review. I appreciate your willingness to follow Wikipedia's processes since there have been issues with this article in the past. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to assist. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 06:23, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your response - no worries about the delay, I appreciate the guidance. I will begin putting together a draft for REE Automotive and submit it through the Articles for Creation process - I certainly don't want to cause any additional issues. If I have any questions or difficulties with the process, I will reach out to you and/or MrsSnoozyTurtle again, you both have been very helpful (especially with necessary code, as I am still learning how to read in the 'source editor'). Thank you! SotoRoto (talk) 18:26, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Hello - I just wanted to reach out and let you know I have submitted an REE Automotive page through the Article for Creation process, just in case you wanted to review it. Thank you again for your help; I have learned quite a bit in the past few weeks! SotoRoto (talk) 19:53, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Lake and McHenry County Scanner

Hello Lord Bolingbroke, can you review Draft:Lake and McHenry County Scanner it's in pending for the last 3 months. Does this draft need to be improved? I'm looking forward to hearing from you. RASSIOPEIA (talk) 08:19, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

I generally do not review drafts on request. The draft was declined as non-notable, and after a cursory review I would agree with that assessment. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 23:31, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

"Discuss 1" but where?

Hello! I noticed you removed the discussion of a requested move, however you didn't really provide a link as to where we could continue the discussion and simply just left the edit summary "discuss 1". Mind telling me where you intend the discussion to be continued? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#0001 15:23, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

@Blaze The Wolf: It's at Talk:Yenya—the talk page of the article that was requested to be moved. This is standard practice at WP:RM/TR. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 15:26, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Ah ok thank you. I had suggested we move the discussion there, however the user didn't really seem to notice. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#0001 15:28, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Father (rapper) has been accepted

Father (rapper), which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on its talk page. Most new articles start out as Stub-Class or Start-Class and then attain higher grades as they develop over time. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation if you prefer.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.

If you would like to help us improve this process, please consider leaving us some feedback.

Thanks again, and happy editing!

Tagging pages for speedy deletion

Hello, Lord Bolingbroke,

I was looking over Mike Guillen and I was surprised to see that you didn't notify the page creator when you tagged this article for speedy deletion. This is an important part of the deletion process, whether deletion by CSD, PROD or AFD/RFD/TFD/etc. You need to tell the page creator when an article they created might be deleted.

This is done most easily if you make use of Twinkle to tag pages for deletion. If you set up your Twinkle Preferences to "Notify page creator" and make sure all CSD criteria are selected, then Twinkle posts these messages for you when you tag the page. If you don't want to use Twinkle, then you'll have to write these notices yourself. Please do not omit this step in the future if you tag any more pages for deletion. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 07:02, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Quite right Liz, thanks for the reminder. I typically use Twinkle but tagged manually in this case and it slipped my mind. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 07:04, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 851 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Your draft article, Draft:Cande y Paulo

Hello, Lord Bolingbroke. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Cande y Paulo".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 01:23, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13251 articles, as of 10:00, 23 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Lord Bolingbroke,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
