Personal info
[edit]It's a shame that you felt that you had to remove your personal info due to ridiculous legal threats. Think Wikimedia would defend its editors in an actual lawsuit? Seems unlikely, but the result could be a serious chilling of people contributing. Of course, in any lawsuit, the First Amendment would eventually win, but what Wikipedia editor wants to spend the resources defending that right? We do this for fun, after all. Good luck. —Cleared as filed. 23:21, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
- That's quite alright. In fact, a lot of the personal info that I have there is actually incorrect. I already told Brandt my real location because he doesn't have a leg to stand on in terms of defamation. I'm not worried about him, and frankly neither should anyone else. Linuxbeak | Talk 18:08, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- I agree that he doesn't have a leg to stand on, but you never know what people like that are willing to spend their money on, and even a frivilous lawsuit has to be replied to in some way. Hopefully it all comes to nothing. —Cleared as filed. 23:20, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

Something I found
[edit]Hey. While wandering around the wiki a bit, I found something that you may want to look at: Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress/JarlaxleArtemis. Since the "threat" has been resolved, I imagine that this will cause more bad blood between Jarlaxle and the community. I only wish to bring this to your attention, do with it what you will. Thanks.--Sean|Black 08:42, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

My Rfa
[edit]I appreciate your concern about my edits and Bishonen's commentary. To me, it isn't a time thing and though good behavior over time helps to wash away the mistakes of the past, it doesn't erase them. While the comment along the lines of POV foreigner leftist (or something like that) appears to be idiotic and insulting, I was actually being tongue in cheek. I realize it was insulting and can hardly be construed as funny by any stretch of the imagination. Oftentimes, I do see edit summaries that state something like, revert POV, revert POV pushing, and even revert mindless edit....etc, my comment about foreigners was adolescent. My ex wife was Canadian and my current girlfriend is Croatian so in reality I like "foreigners" (I'm just an ugly American after all). Regardless, those edit summaries were harsh and wrong. Bishonen's argument was an education for me. I saw on the WP:AN that two editors were in disagreement (actually one was harrassing the other) and decided to, for no reason other than good faith, to "break it up". I came into the battlezone with only the most recent edits of each party to go on. I made comments that I didn't have time to research all the issues and meant that. I was merely hoping to see if two editors could just "go to their corners" and let things cool off. Bishonen's comment that I backpeddled is not really what happened. After a few examples by El C and 172 I became educated and then told Silverback to "cease fire" and I also told him that he was going to get in over his head (or something like that). It appears I took a stand, but I didn't, it was just a good faith effort to try and avoid long drawn out Rfc's and arbitrations. I learned my lesson to both not stick my nose in things and to have my facts straight before I intervene. I also want to make clear that I didn't solicit this admin thing and have been appraoched numerous times for a couple of months by a number of editors to allow them to nominate me, so I finally agreed, even though I questioned my own chances. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that if nothing else, I do know where my weaknesses are and what I need to work on. I knew them already and that is why there hasn't been the same kind of silliness in editing summaries for several months now. Have a good day.--MONGO 19:07, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Cheers! -- Ianblair23 (talk) 03:22, 22 November 2005 (UTC)User: SchmuckyTheCat
[edit]A day worth of edits on LJ Drama were reverted by User: SchmuckyTheCat today stating that they were very untrue. In fact, I was correcting terrible inaccuracies in the existing article made by SchmuckyTheCat, including the libellous statements about Ed Rodriguez that were blatantly false. He quotes Encyclopaedia Dramatica as reference, yet Encyclopaedia Dramatica's own mission statement states that it is a parody and hence that its content is deliberately untrue. Using this kind of reference in an encylopaedia article is ludicruous. Even ED's own article about Ed Rodriguez, slanderous though it is, states clearly that he was guilty only of statutory rape, not of child molestation. In my mind, there is a whopping great difference between the two, which gets down to the issue of consent. LJ Drama's incorrect coverage of the issue is precisely what LJ Drama stands for - they lie about people and cause problems.
I really didn't want to get in to an edit war, but what he did was outright vandalism. I don't mind if he edits things, and perhaps he knows a few more things about the inner workings of that organisation than I do, but just blatantly deleting all Neutral Point of View facts is ridiculous. His own articles are terribly point of view orientated, and he pushes a particular line, that is consistent with a support of an organisation such as LJ Drama and Encyclopaedia Dramatica.
As I noticed, rather amusingly, the creators of Enyclopaedia Dramatica, girlvinyl and jameth, both have Wikipedia accounts, and both of them vandalised the Encyclopaedia Dramatica page! Considering that the page was deleted 4 times with votes, and then added back in 20 different forms by vandals - the self same people who created the site - I question why it is valid to remain on wikipedia full stop. And if it does remain, shouldn't it be pushed more in line with accurate information?
LJ Drama and Encyclopaedia Dramatica users have boasted about vandalising Wikipedia, and I looked at a lot of pages on their mission statements which say that that is their aim in using Wikipedia. User SchmuckyTheCat seems to be a part of that.
Why I am writing to you is because I saw on his user page, after he left a comment to explain why he vandalised the page, that you were asking him to stop Dramatica users from attacking you.
Please, I do not want an edit war with someone of this level of maturity, who deliberately lies and distorts truth. I noticed the large number of complaints on his user page as well. Please can there be some protection against him spreading these lies. Ta. 203.122.225.241 11:10, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

Pigsonthewing Arbitration case injunctions
[edit]Two temporary injunctions have been made in the Arbitration case involving Pigsonthewing, which will hold until the conclusion of the Arbitration. Firstly, he is banned from editing any page in Karmafist's user space (but not user talk space); any sysop may block him for a short time, up to three days, for any edit violating this injunction, and all such edits may be reverted by any editor without regard to the limitations of the three revert rule. Secondly, due to repeated personal attacks, he is subject to a standard personal attack parole: any administrator may ban him for a short time, up to three days, for any edit which, in the opinion of that administrator, constitutes a personal attack.
Yours,

Bullying from User:Braaad
[edit]Thanks for the support, but I've dealt with his type before. I'll just take a deep breath, count to ten, and debate whether or not to point out just how wrong he is. Again. McNeight 20:13, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. I caught him modifying the Billy Mitchell Award page as well. FWIW, the reg that states that a Mitchell Award is superior to an Eagle Scout is Air Force Recruiting Service Instruction (AFRSI) 36-2001, 01 APR 2005, Table 2.1, Rule #8. I read what you said on McNeight's talk page and I agree we have to do something re user:Braaad. I wasn't too happy when I saw he had edited one of the archived discussions this morning. Thanks for reverting that. (BTW, is there a template that says "This is an archived discussion, please don't change it." or something that we should put on the archives?) Other CAP Wiki
[edit]Linuxbeak, since I know you have been very active with the Civil Air Patrol article I thought I would point out a new CAP related wiki over at CadetStuff. Economic fascism, which you deleted after an AfD, has been recreated by User:RJII. I am not sure that it "substantially a recreation of previously deleted content", however. Would you mind taking a look? Jkelly 17:05, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- Comparing the deleted version to the new one shows a much more encyclopedic article. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Alex Schenck (that's Linuxbeak to you) 18:18, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- I have not seen the previous version, but I disagree about the current one. I find it highly unencyclopedic, as it discusses a particular minority interpretation of fascist economic policies. I certainly don't object to presenting such minority views in wikipedia, but I do object to giving them their own articles. Therefore I have nominated economic fascism for deletion. -- Mihnea Tudoreanu 07:35, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Reverting vandalism all the way
[edit]Hi, I just came across Sasuke and I noticed that you had reverted the last vandalism edit; the edit shortly before that had also been vandalism but wasn't removed, so it might pay to always check the history before reverting. I noticed the exact same situation on Jan (you weren't involved), and I fear that this is a pretty general problem. Cheers, AxelBoldt 22:49, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

French Spoken Articles
[edit]As somebody who speaks French, I thought you might be able to give me a hand. I'm trying to teach myself French, and I'm trying to do it in an organic way. The first thing I'm doing is getting use to the sound of the language, without knowing what it means. So far I've been downloading a number of French podcasts, and was wondering if there were any French language Wikipedia spoken articles. I was having a hard time finding them, not speaking French. Coould you let me know if there are any and where I could find them? It doesn't matter what the subject is, just that it's in French. Thanks! Grant 22:06, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
