Stations

[edit]

Hello Kaveliltt, I noticed you amending the coordinates of many the station articles in Qld and NT and was wondering where you are getting your information from. Although I haven't referenced coordinates or distances the data I'm using is coming from the exploroz website, which I'm assuming is correct. Regards Hughesdarren (talk) 02:25, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Hughesdarren,

Thanks for the message. I find the positional data from Google satellite imagery used by Wikimapia. Sometimes, I use other mapping sites too to cross check & verify. You can cross check my amended data with the actual locations. The locations as given in wikipedia, as of now is more or less correct but out by up to 1-2 KM.

For example, see the location given by the wikipedia of the Station 'Angorichina' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angorichina) There is nothing in that location. The correct location is at 31.0878844S 138.7409762E which is about 14 KM east of the wikipedia data. In the Google maps it is marked clearly as such.

Position as given in the wikipedia is here : http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=-31.112916&lon=138.594246&z=15&m=b&search=31%C2%B0%206%E2%80%B2%2046.57%E2%80%B3%20S%2C%20138%C2%B0%2035%E2%80%B2%2039.52%E2%80%B3%20E

See the correct location of Angorichina in wikimapia : http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=-31.087156&lon=138.740984&z=17&m=b&show=/31156613/Angorichina-Station

I was about to correct the positional information in wikipedia of this station when I saw your above message. So, I am now holding back and await your reply and verification that my work is in the right direction and is of some use. May I, also request you to verify, at random, the position of some other stations too.

I contribute regularly to wikimapia and am a moderator. You can see my profile here : http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=9.966700&lon=76.233300&z=10&m=b&show=/user/profile/

Hello Again, No worries - I've never used wikimapia before, it looks pretty awesome, zooms right in down on the homestead - I think I've been converted. I'm glad I asked - Thanks for your prompt reply. Happy Editing, Regards Hughesdarren (talk) 10:30, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Hughesdarren,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I am glad to hear that you have become a disciple of the Wikimapia for your geographical informations.

May I invite you to spend some time here and contribute with your vast geographic knowledge?

I will now go ahead with my project of fine tuning the co-ordinates of the stations.

Please keep in touch. BiBi NowKavaliltt 23:57, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Dear Hughesdarren,

Will you please have a re-look at the position of Ashburton Downs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashburton_Downs) and Glenflorrie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenflorrie)

Both seem to have the same Co-Ordinates.

With warm Regards Kavaliltt 15:55, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Lake Miranda

[edit]

Hi.

Original "article" as follows:

Lake Miranda is a lake in australia.

You're welcome, feydey (talk) 19:50, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Feydey,

Greetings and thanks for your reply.

I was browsing and contributing to wikimpaia, the geography site.

See this entry near Alice Springs (http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=-23.240478&lon=132.680941&z=15&m=b&show=/5113304/Lake-Miranda)

There is link provided to wikipedia article. Once you click on it, this is what you get (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Miranda)

I really wonder why it was deleted even though it exists and possibly there were no further details about the lake. There are many articles in wikipedia without any further detils so I was wondering why this entry was to go? May be we can restore the article, so that anyone who clicks on the wikimapia article wont be disappointed!!Kavaliltt 01:33, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
