Regarding Citations on Mel Edwards Page

What to do when primary sources are the only sources you have?

I am wondering why an interview Melvin Edwards did with William T Williams describing the history of Smokehouse and the way in which he came about meeting certain artists is being refuted? The problem with this is because due to a long history of overwriting and underwriting prominent black artists, there aren't going to be written reproductions recounting the history of these accounts. I have scoured through JSTOR and plenty of other art catalogs to viable information regarding smokehouse and his partnership with William T. Williams and I have come up with very baseline generic information. I have accounted for biases in the recounts which is why I have tried to keep the information as factual as possible- sticking to dates and so on. Hi @Brwnpaprbag:, I don't know if you have had a chance to read through the WP:RS yet - specifically WP:RSPRIMARY? It is possible to find secondary sources for Mel Edwards, he is a well known artist. I'm curious about your choice to leave out the inspiration David Alfaro Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, and José Clemente Orozco provided smokehouse murals.

Hi @Brwnpaprbag:, left it out because 1) it came from an interview according to the YouTube video citation which is a primary source and 2) it contradicts the earlier statement that these were "wall paintings" and not murals (those are all Mexican muralist) as well as confuses your earlier statement about it being influenced by "the 19th-century tradition of stacking houses affected the human psyche ". If you can find a better citation thats not an interview please feel free to add it back with clean up. Since this is a biography of a living person, anything without a citation or with a poor citation can be removed quickly. Jooojay (talk) 01:55, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
