Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello JBW/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions. I hope that you like the place and decide to stay.
If you haven't already read the policies and guidelines page, some of the key points are:
- The Five pillars of Wikipedia:
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia
- Articles must conform to a neutral point of view
- Wikipedia is free content, and submissions must not violate the copyright policy
- Observe Wikiquette and the other rules of engagement
- Wikipedia doesn't have firm rules
- The Simplified Ruleset adds:
- Be bold in making changes
- Information should be verifiable
- Provide an Edit summary
- Sign your posts on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~).
- Use the Show preview button
- There are five official rules which must be followed
Some other useful pages are:
- How to edit a page
- The Wikipedia:Introduction to Wikipedia
- The Tutorial
- The Manual of Style
- What to do if you see vandalism
- How to move and merge pages
- The Village pump and Help desk, for questions about Wikipedia
- The reference desk, for questions which are not about Wikipedia
- How to write a great article
If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.
If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page or via email. Thanks and happy editing, [ælfəks] 07:29, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
ALGOL 58 and the others
I saw your comment, and have been wanting to work with someone to tidy up the ALGOL page. You will see I have posted several suggestions over time, but have been a bit reluctant to implement these suggestions. Maybe you can feed back on these?
re: ALGOL 58 I have never used it, not sure if it is a draft/spec or if it ever was a compiler. I would have imagined that it - as IAL - deserves a web page, and even the retrospective name ALGOL-58. If it was only a draft, then this should be indicated. I will check the Algol Bulletin of the time.

Hello
Yes, looking in the wrong place wasn't helping - you were easy to find once I stopped doing so. I must have just misremembered our conversation. A shame; I would have liked to have contacted you unexpectedly. Olaf Davis | Talk 20:51, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello. I'm afraid I removed myself from this page, since I think I'm pretty solidly non-notable even for one-sentence inclusion in his article. Perhaps in ten years that won't be the case! Olaf Davis | Talk 23:04, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Comment on moving "Anglo-Saxons"
I have made a comment on Talk:Anglo-Saxon about your moving of "Anglo-Saxons" to "Anglo-Saxon". I have read your remarks headed "My Wiki-editing style", and I accept you may not wish to go back to read my comment, but I thought I would let you know in case you are interested.
