Sleep

Just curious. How is this vandalism? SlightSmile 01:43, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

It's not. I read it backwards, so to speak. Sorry. --Hordaland (talk) 09:01, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's done that. All the best. SlightSmile 16:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey

Hey, how is you doing? All well I hope. :) I am doing better; thought you may be interested to know I cured my problem of 'sleep initiation' by quitting smoking! I remember briefly discussing my sleep issues with you with you a year or so ago. I think the stimulant nicotine or perhaps beta-carbolines in tobacco smoke were hyping my nervous system up and keeping me awake. How are you doing with your sleep problems?--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 09:11, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Hallo! Since retiring, my sleep is very messed up, but it doesn't matter too much as I don't have to get to work (or anywhere). I can't sleep more than 3-5 hours at a time, but I sleep 2 or 3 such sessions per night, all between 1 a.m. and 2 p.m. or so.
Congrats on quitting smoking! --Hordaland (talk) 09:27, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Heya Hordaland. :) Ugh, that sucks, I suppose it is better than no sleep but must be a burdon for you. :( Thanks for the congrats, I wasn't expecting the positive effects on sleep from giving up smoking and it is one reason to stay off them! Although I find it harder to concentrate without them, perhaps I have ADHD! :-P Did you ever try that melatonin acting antidepressant for your sleep?--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 11:27, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Don't recall what "melatonin-acting antidepressant" that was but the answer has to be no. I've only used pure melatonin (as pure as it gets, unregulated). Raspberry flavored. So now you have ADHD as well as ADHD controversy, eh? Hordaland (talk) 22:28, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Agomelatine, was the antidepressant I was talking about, I remember you asking me about it on my talk page. Or no? I have melatonin in my house, we can't get it here in the UK, so I had to order it from the USA. Well haha, I was a bit 'mad' when I was younger, who knows lol, maybe I was a bit ADHD, although I liked who I was back then. My cousin thinks he had ADHD as a teenager, he was wild and they say it runs in the family, I dunno. I am actually diagnosed with 'functional' (as opposed to structural) drug withdrawal related brain damage, and would love to get rid of my impairments and go back to the old me but oh well; I always thought my insomnia was related to my damaged CNS and that was why I never suspected the smokes.--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 22:57, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
What dose of melatonin did/do you use out of interest? What dose do you think is best? I still gonna hold on to my melatonin for occasional insomnia; my sleep still occasionally goes a bit off when I have bad cold or flu. Hope I am not bothering you.--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 23:10, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
I think my sleep specialist & I talked about Agomelatine once, but it wasn't/isn't approved here yet. I get my melatonin here on a restricted named-patient prescription. But all the brands I've got are/were made in the USA. I use (Natrol) liquid to make precise dosage possible. Less is better, I'm convinced. Way less than 1 mg (like 250 mcg) works as well as many times that much as a hypnotic for me, 75 min before bedtime. I haven't used it 6-8 hrs earlier as a chronobiotic; that's only supposed to give up to a half hour advance -- not worth the bother. When you have cold/flu you should probably sleep as much as possible, schedule be hanged, right? I do still keep a sleep log (SleepChart software from Supermemo), in hopes of finding out what conditions allow the longest sleep episode. --Hordaland (talk) 23:40, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Any idea what to do about a user who copies an article to her/his sandbox, makes massive changes and copies it back into the article? One misses any additions/corrections made in the meantime and it's impossible to see what's been changed. We've now reverted such massive changes twice and tried to engage the user on her/his talk page and on article talk page. Not crisis yet, but next revision will probably require some form of dispute resolution. Article in question is Unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. Hordaland (talk) 23:46, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Oh I never heard of melatonin being used at as low a dose as that. What do you think of time released preprations of melatonin? Good or bad? Oh sleepchart software! Very cool, you sure take your sleep seriously. :) Guess you have to with your disorder.
I don't really have any advice other than what you are already doing, warn the user and reverting his changes. I know it can be a nightmare when big changes like that are made, so difficult and time consuming to figure out what has changed and what hasn't. I agree that he should do the changes in much smaller blocks and wait for consensus etc. I will check your contribs and watch list the article and see if I can be of help. :)--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 18:52, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Don't rightly know what to think about time release melatonin. I tried it (Circadin) for 42 days (nights) and for me it could have been a sugar pill. But maybe it has an effect for someone.
That problematic article is quiet for now; hope it stays that way. It was greatly increased by one of these student projects just before this started. I don't like to see their hard work wasted. That particular professor had a fine routine for getting the students involved: especially the deadlines underway; no one could wait until the last minute. --Hordaland (talk) 17:16, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Hordaland, I have a bottle of the time released melatonin but I have not tried it yet. Glad the article is quiet now. :-)--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 01:16, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

The insomnia vandal

I threw a 1 hour block on 220.255.2.0/24 (256 addresses) as he was hopping around in that range. Don't know how I managed to miss the talk page stuff. --GraemeL (talk) 17:06, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

I see he hit you again, I've range blocked him for another 3 hours: 18:01, December 16, 2011 GraemeL (talk | contribs | block) blocked 220.255.2.0/24 (talk) (anon. only, account creation blocked) with an expiry time of 3 hours ‎ (IP hopping vandal/troll). --GraemeL (talk) 18:04, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
