- Done I’ve adjusted the wording to make it more readable. One thing that I noticed while reading the article is that a lot of the content lacks citations. It’s very important that we back information up with reliable sources, especially when it involves living people such as Letexier. A quick search Google turned up some possible sources: [1][2][3]
- Unfortunately I don’t understand a lot of the terminology these sources use (I’m out of the football loop), so interpreting them is a bit out of my wheelhouse. The folks at WikiProject Football will be able to better assist here. Here’s the link to their talk :-) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 01:20, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter
So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
- Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
- FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
- TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
- Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included LunaEatsTuna, Thebiguglyalien, Sammi Brie, Trainsandotherthings, Lee Vilenski, Juxlos, Unexpectedlydian, SounderBruce, Kosack, BennyOnTheLoose and PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. UAA question / guidance
Hello! I haven't reported any UAA violations before and am debating whether this one would qualify, or how you would recommend handling. Since you're an active patroller I thought you might have good advice.
User Jamesman666 (Special:Contributions/Jamesman666) is currently engaged in a discussion on Talk:Jesus that appears unconstructive. Specifically, he is trying to push his POV that Jesus never existed, even as a historical person, and is ignoring the many article citations of RSs that establish otherwise. He also has a history of having edits to various religious articles reverted, and POV pushing / edit warring. This, combined with the "666" (Mark of the Beast, from Revelation), makes me question whether the user name should be considered inappropriate per WP:DISRUPTNAME, specifically, Usernames that deliberately offend...religion or Usernames that show or imply the intent to vandalize, disrupt, or engage in bad-faith edits or behaviors that are clearly not intended to help build, expand, or grow the encyclopedia in a positive or collaborative manner. Thank you. Jtrevor99 (talk) 01:22, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for reaching out, Jtrevor99. It can get lonely on this talk page. In my opinion, the string ‘666’ isn’t egregious enough to warrant an immediate block, unless it’s coupled with other unambiguously problematic elements (e.g. satanspenis666), so I wouldn’t go to UAA with this. This appears to be more of a behavioural issue than a username one.
- I appreciate you checking in. If you have any more questions (especially if they’re username-related), you know where to find me. :-) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 23:05, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Question from Lkf100 on List of serving senior officers of the British Army (18:50, 19 April 2023)
How do I add a photo from my ipad pse? --Lkf100 (talk) 18:50, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Lkf100! You can upload photos using the file upload wizard, provided that the image falls into one of these four categories. If the picture doesn’t fall into one of those categories, or if you’re unsure (maybe you found it on the internet but don’t know its origin), it should not be uploaded. What kind of image would you like to add? ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 01:48, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there, many thanks for replying! It is one of two: a professionally taken photo or one taken by me on my iPhone. However, having worked out how to go about it in Virtual Editing (took me a while!), and uploaded it onto the Media Settings tab (named it, entered a description etc), when I press Save, a notice comes up that says “Something went wrong” and “We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons. Please only upload photos that you took yourself with your camera, or see what else is acceptable.” So, I can’t do it despite being my photo. Any ideas? 2A00:23C7:AEC6:F601:5C9E:9FE5:8330:951C (talk) 07:02, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- I went through your contributions on Commons. It seems that your uploads were automatically disallowed by an edit filter. The filter prevents new users from uploading files in the middle of making an edit to an article. It’s not there to discourage you from uploading, it’s just a precaution that had to be taken because a lot of new users will unwittingly upload copyright violations.
- However, you can upload the image you took directly to Commons, and then make the edit where you insert it. One more thing to note before uploading there is that Commons has their own set of rules on what can and can’t be uploaded, even if you did take the photo. Here is the link to those rules. They’re fairly brief so it should be easy to find the one that applies. Let me know if you have any more questions; that’s what I’m here for! :) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 19:14, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Question from Noxoug1 (12:24, 25 April 2023)
Hi - how do you deal with new BLP pages where the figure does not have many secondary sources but is in a position that would be notable e.g. CEO? Would you suggest keeping the draft in a user page until more secondary sources are available? Thanks for your feedback. --Noxoug1 (talk) 12:24, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- Howdy @Noxoug1! If there aren’t enough reliable secondary sources to establish that someone is notable (even if their position makes them seem that way on first glance), it’s WP:TOOSOON to have an article about them. Yes, if you’re struggling to find sources, I would create a draft and work on it there until the amount of coverage becomes more clear. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 18:52, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @HelenDegenerate Fantastic, thanks for the clarity. I will take that approach. Noxoug1 (talk) 14:12, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 May newsletter
The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:
- Iazyges (1040) with three FAs on Byzantine emperors, and lots of bonus points.
- Unlimitedlead (847), with three FAs on ancient history, one GA and nine reviews.
- Epicgenius (636), a WikiCup veteran, with one FA on the New Amsterdam Theatre, four GAs and eleven DYKs
- BennyOnTheLoose (553), a seasoned competitor, with one FA on snooker, six GAs and seven reviews.
- FrB.TG (525), with one FA, a Lady Gaga song and a mass of bonus points.
Other notable performances were put in by Sammi Brie, Thebiguglyalien, MyCatIsAChonk, PCN02WPS, and AirshipJungleman29.
So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). - Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.

WikiCup 2023 September newsletter
The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were
- Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
- Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
- Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.
Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.
Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Question from Pyramiddept (11:14, 18 September 2023)
Hello, how do I create a Wikipedia page for representative of an organization? --Pyramiddept (talk) 11:14, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Pyramiddept, and welcome! Writing articles can be pretty challenging for new editors, so before starting one, I would take The Wikipedia Adventure. It’s a tutorial that will help you get a better feel for the basic elements of editing. After completing that, Help:Your first article offers more specific guidance for starting an article— I cannot recommend this page enough.

Some scientists have almost known all about the Universe, why don't they see what will happen ahead? --Stygian Meek (talk) 08:21, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Stygian Meek, and welcome to Wikipedia. Both of these questions are definitely thought-provoking, but I’m not quite sure how to answer them— I’m better with questions about editing and helping you get started. You could try asking the reference desk though. It works just like a reference desk you’d find at a library, so you can probably get some great information there.
- I hope this helps! If there’s anything else you need, you know where to find me :) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 20:45, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Question from YeshuPantera (21:17, 8 October 2023)
Hello, I used to contribute to WIKI but I have noticed complaints on YouTube about a biased WIKI article on the Shroud of Turin.
I reviewed this article and have concluded that it is indeed severely biased and in need of a complete re-write.
Sorry that I cannot contribute, but this is a serious issue. --YeshuPantera (talk) 21:17, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi YeshuPantera! Can you tell me a bit about what is biased about the article? If it is biased, I might be able to get it addressed if we know what aspects need fixing. :) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 02:05, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
- Dear Helen,
- Thanks for noticing my complaint. Here are the issues:
- 1. The Wiki article states: "Carbon fourteen dating has shown it (the Shroud) to be a medieval artifact." This is stated as if it were a proven fact. In 2019 the journal, ARCHAEOMETRY, published a research paper, RADIOCARBON DATING OF THE TURIN SHROUD: NEW EVIDENCE FROM THE RAW DATA, which states: "A statistical analysis of the NATURE article and the (Shroud's) raw (C-14) data strongly suggests that homogenity is lacking in the data and that the procedure should be reconsidered." and "...it is not possible to affirm that the 1988 radiocarbon dating offers 'conclusive evidence' that the calendar age range is accurate..."
- This research is ignored in the WIKI article.
- 2. In 1978 a team of 24 US scientists spent five 24 hour days in Turin using four tons of analytical equipment to gather evidence from the Shroud. After three years of analysis and consultaions this team (known as "STURP") released its findings.
- Their report concluded: "...the Shroud image is that of a real human form of a scrourged, cricified man. It is not the product of an artist. The blood stains are composed of hemoglobin and also give a positive test for serum albumin. There are no chimical or physical methods known which can account for the totality of the image... ...how the image was produced or what produced the image remains, now, as it has in the past, a mystery."
- The WIKI article ignores STURP's research and conclusions
- 3. Dr. Walter McCrone was not a member of the STURP team which traveled to Turin. He was allowed into the team after the evidence had been gathered. Dr. McCrone's research into the Shroud was not peer-reviewed and was self published. Dr. McCrone was forced to resign from STURP because he refused to attend STURP conferences to defend his conclusions. These facts are not mentioned in the WIKI article. Instead, Dr.McCrone is cited several times without criticism.
- 3. The 1988 carbon fourteen dating is cited again as if it were a proven fact which it is not.
- 4. The WIKI article states that all alternate theories as to why the piece of the Shroud tested has about 17% C-14 than would be expected of a 2000 year old relic have been "refuted." This is not true. While several hypothesies have been falsified, the neutron radiation hypothesis has not been falsified and is, infact, more consistent with the profile of the Shroud's C-14 data than is the hypothesis of a medieval date.
- 5. The WIKI article states that the British Museum's analysis of the Shroud's data has been "accepted as valid by the experts." However, many reputable scientists have not accepted the conclusions of the Museum. Books agreeing with the Museums' conclusions have been published by a historians and art historians, but the Shroud's authenticity is a subject of scientific inquiery, and these historians are out of their field in that regard. One of the most qualified Shroud researchers is nuclear engineer Robert Rucker who has a dedicated website, shroudresearch.net, but Rucker is not mentioned in the WIKI article.
- 6. The WIKI article attempts to whitewash the congruences of the Shroud's facial image with sixth century icons and coins. It ignores recent publications by Profs. Fanti and Malfi, THE SHROUD OF TURIN - FIRST CENTURY AFTER CHRIST, in which the probability that sixth century coin engravers could have produced the images of Jesus' facial features as found on the Shroud by chance was 7 in a billion of billions.
- 7. McCrone is cited again and WIKI again states that "all hypothesies have been refuted" regarding the alternate explanations for the Shroud's C-14 data. And yet again Dr. McCrone is mentioned.
- Your WIKI article about the Shroud of Turin is so biased that it reads as if it were written by the magazine, SKEPTICAL INQUIROR. YeshuPantera (talk) 14:45, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
- @YeshuPantera In order for any bias issue to be resolved, you need to explain the issues on the article’s talk page, and point out some ways that they can be fixed. Provide some reliable sources (here’s a guide to help you identify them).
- Before starting a thread, however, I recommend checking the talk page’s archives to see if any similar discussions have already taken place, and if so, how they concluded. Some articles (usually on controversial subjects) have discussions about bias very frequently, so it’s always good to make sure that someone hasn’t already brought up what you want to say.
- I think you’ll find Wikipedia:Guide to addressing bias and the resources on that page especially helpful. Let me know if you need any more help with anything! ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 01:56, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
