WikiCup 2011 May newsletter
We're half way through round 3 of the 2011 WikiCup. There are currently 32 remaining in the competition, but only 16 will progress to our penultimate round. Casliber (submissions), of pool D, is our overall leader with nearly 200 points, while pools A, B and C are led by Racepacket (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Canada Hky (submissions) respectively. The score required to reach the next round is 35, though this will no doubt go up significantly as the round progresses. We have a good number of high scorers, but also a considerable number who are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. Also, an important note concerning nominations at featured article candidates: if you are nominating content for which you intend to claim WikiCup points, please make this clear in the nomination statement so that the FAC director and his delegates are aware of the fact.
A running total of claims can be seen here. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn and The ed17 23:28, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Photo request
Hi, I'm really ill right now, so I'm not much help. I hunt for photos on Flickr, and email the photographers to ask for photos, which usually means they have to change from copyright to Creative Commons licenses. I think there are a lot of -pics you might want there. Meanwhile, I'd ask User talk:J Milburn who is an Admin. on Commons. Good luck, --Leahtwosaints (talk) 00:29, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

GA review of Svetlana Kuznetsova
Svetlana Kuznetsova is not ready for a GA review - too many issues by the end of the season 2003. Please check the whole article and fix all problems. Then please send me a message at my Talk page. I will wait for up to 3 weeks. If there are significant issues after that, I'm afraid I'll have to fail the article. --Philcha (talk) 12:13, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Chamber jazz albums
Because of the number of candidates under Category:New Age albums, I was able to move those articles within the newly created subcategories og Category:New Age albums by artist nationality. However, since there are so few albums categorized as Category:Chamber jazz albums, it seemed inapproriate to dig deeper, if you will, within the categorization scheme at this time by artist nationality. I think this becomes more imperative only when the main category begins to become overpopulated. So there is, for example, Category:Indie rock albums by artist nationality but not Category:Chamber pop albums by artist nationality (just Category:Chamber pop albums. In the meantime, I would just place such albums (or their parent cat under Category:Albums by artist) in Category:Chamber jazz albums and the appropriate subcategory in Category:Jazz albums by artist nationality. You don't have to agree with me, but I hope you understand my reasoning. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 16:39, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Svetlana Kuznetsova again
Hi, GreatOrangePumpkin. You show great enthusiasm for tennis and you've made good improvements at Svetlana Kuznetsova (at Talk:Svetlana Kuznetsova/GA2). Unfortunately I think there's too much still do without the review going on for another month or 2:
- The most obvious issue is your English. Eventually I checked you User Page, and as far I can see your first language is Russian, and English is a 2nd language for you. As a result there are many places where the phrasing just looks wrong to one whose 1st language is English. As I said at the GA review, prepositions are difficult in any European language.
- You need to check the citations all through the article.
I'm very sorry to say that I'm going to have to fail this review. I suggest you check the citations and then ask for help with the English. The 2 obvious places where you should ask are the WikiProjects listed at Talk:Svetlana Kuznetsova and then Wikipedia:Peer review. In all cases, explain that you are 2nd-language user of English. If you like a little joke, say that at least you use "a" and "the", which many Russians omit - including some scientists. --Philcha (talk) 20:43, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Cal Lampley
On 28 June 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Cal Lampley, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Cal Lampley formed the first all-black, 45-piece band, the US Navy B-1 Band, in the then white-only US Navy? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

I have blocked him for two and a half days now. We do not block IPs indefinitely, ever, unless they are identified as open proxies. But, should this continue, the block should be further escalated. Daniel Case (talk) 17:26, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
