Elections in Hyndburn
[edit]Hello Graham, and thanks for your recent contributions. I see you started articles on LCC election results in Hyndburn. Unfortunately I don't think articles for these specific results are particularly worthwhile, as the information can easily be accommodated in the LCC election articles (most local council election articles feature the results of every individual ward in them). You're probably best off creating articles for the LCC elections as a whole. As you may have seen, I have merged your work into the LCC articles (although one already had the ward-by-ward results).
I'm currently going through all the local elections, and slowly creating templates for each county (see examples for Buckinghamshire and Derbyshire). This means that on any one county council or district/borough council article, you'll be able to see all elections in the county in one place. Hopefully I'll get to Lancashire soon, but feel free to have a go at one for the county if you like! Cheers, Number 57 20:42, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Hyndburn Borough Council elections, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Independent (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The article Hyndburn Borough Council election, 1976 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Local elections (electrions for a single local council that is) are usually not notable enough to get their own Wikipedia articles.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

The article Hyndburn Borough Council election, 1979 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No reason why this local election would be notable enough to have its own article. Article is also unsourced and clearly incorrect (111,000 votes is double the number of the electorate, many of whom will not have voted anyway...)

Detagging articles
[edit]Hello again Graham. I saw today that you removed the {{unreferenced}} tags from a few Hyndburn Borough Council articles. Please do not do so unless you have actually added any references. You state on Talk:Hyndburn Borough Council election, 1982 that "All references are official from Hyndburn Council.". However, you haven't actually included the references in the article. You need to show what your sources are rather than just claim to have referenced it at your own computer.
There are two ways that you can do this:
- The preferred way is "inline referencing". This means linking to the reference in the text of the article using the <ref> and </ref> tags. As an example of how I would do this on the Hyndburn Borough Council election, 1976 article, you should add an introduction to the article (i.e. "Elections to Hyndburn Borough Council were held in 1976. The result was a victory for the Labour Party, which won X of the Y seats.[1]) You will then have to add a {{reflist}} tag in the references section to display the references on the page. You could also add the reference tag in the heading of the results tables (e.g. "Accrington West (2 seats - electorate 2518)[2]) if there are individual pages for each wards' result.
- A second, less useful way is just provide a link to the source in the references section. This is less useful because it is not clear which bit of the article is being referenced to that source.
References
[edit]Another thing to mention is that you need to add an introduction to your articles - you can't just start with a heading and a table. Something short along the lines above would be recommended.
Your additions are very much appreciated, but please ask if you have any questions, as your articles are a little bit messy at the moment (as were mine when I started editing). Cheers, Number 57 20:17, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
