License tagging for Image:Ezo flag.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Ezo flag.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Flag of Menton and Roquebrune.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Flag of Menton and Roquebrune.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:29, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Ix (Oz), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Noland (Oz). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 08:35, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
multiple links per line
the MOS:DAB claims that a line should have only one link on it in a disambig page, this is largely so that the page can quickly and easily act as a disambig page. I've already fixed EV but am noting this here for your information. Pdbailey (talk) 05:49, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Anglo-Corsican Kingdom
A tag has been placed on Anglo-Corsican Kingdom requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 19:34, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Question
Under what criteria is Edgar Allan Poe a good candidate for Category:American child writers? I've removed it, but I'm curious why you thought it appropriate. --Midnightdreary (talk) 18:35, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- The category definition says "People of the United States who were published authors when they were children or teenagers." Based on the Edgar Allan Poe article, his first publication was at the age of 18: "Poe's publishing career began humbly, with an anonymous collection of poems, Tamerlane and Other Poems (1827), credited only to 'a Bostonian'." Goustien (talk) 18:45, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- But it's hardly a defining characteristic. See WP:OVERCAT. --Midnightdreary (talk) 18:51, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- OK, perhaps I misunderstood the purpose of the category. But if someone creates a List of authors who were published in their teens, Poe should be included there. Goustien (talk) 18:58, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- It's not a big deal; personally, I think the category itself is somewhat mystifying. It also seems to imply a static character - as if once published, they must forever remain a child writer. I'm thinking about filing a request for comment on it. --Midnightdreary (talk) 19:07, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

I have nominated New America, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/New America. Opera of Operas
I wanted to note that I performed this because The Tragedy of Tragedies page now contains the information and it is a mistake to connect Opera of Operas with the original version (Tom Thumb) and not the later expanded version (Tragedy of Tragedies). I used part of your sentence and expanded on it with dates and the rest here. I hope this makes sense. Ottava Rima (talk) 20:46, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Flag of Menton and Roquebrune.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Flag of Menton and Roquebrune.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Proposed deletion of Gorice XII
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Gorice XII, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- No discernable notability, or other reason for this article to exist. The information here is replicated from the main article for the book in which this character appears, The Worm Ouroboros.
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Alastairward (talk) 21:26, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Please consider adding the oldprodfull tag on the Talk page when you remove a PROD like I did here, here, and here. Keep up the good work! Varbas (talk) 03:55, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Character articles for The Worm Ouroboros
I think you misunderstood the reason for the PRODs. Character articles should be more than simple plot reiteration, we should be aiming for something that gives notability outside the fictional universe they exist within. You may want to consider a merge to a general list of characters. Otherwise, all that we have here are character descriptions that could otherwise site on the main article for the book. Take a look at the articles for Spock and James T. Kirk for examples of good "out of universe" character articles. Alastairward (talk) 11:17, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Shakespearean phrases
Hi, why did you remove Much Ado about Nothing from category:Shakespearean phrases, please? - Fayenatic (talk) 21:19, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Much Ado about Nothing is a Redirect page. If you like, shouldn't the category marker go on the article page Much Ado About Nothing? Goustien (talk) 22:08, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- WP:Categorizing redirects is allowed. I have now created a more specific one Much Ado About Nothing (title) for the purpose, as I think this is more useful than adding the category to the main article. - Fayenatic (talk) 22:22, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
AfD nomination of List of sovereign states by formation date
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of sovereign states by formation date. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of sovereign states by formation date. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Rwanda categories
Thanks for the recategorising the Rwanda article - it seems I had made a mistake about the way to do such categorisations. I actually removed them because that was the way the categories for the Cameroon article were organised at the time it became featured. However, on reading WP:EPON I see that the policy is that "an article should not be excluded from any set category on the grounds that its eponymous category is made a "subcategory" of that category" so your rv was correct. Dukes
Dukes and duchesses were upmerged to the parent category Category:Fictional nobility, please do not continue to re-create the category. - jc37 05:20, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Categories exist for Fictional barons and baronesses, Fictional counts and countesses, and Fictional knights. Why not Fictional dukes and duchesses? Goustien (talk) 05:24, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
- Because unlike Barons and Counts, Duke (and Lord), are used in fiction without regard to whether they actually are lords of a duchy, whether they actually are a duke. The Duke of Deception is just one example. And further there are "dukes" which are merely known in the fictional work as "lords". So it's better that these lords and ladies are grouped under nobility in order to prevent such issues and confusion. (Note that fictional lords and ladies was upmerged/deleted at WP:CFD for such reasons.) - jc37 05:32, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Lundy in the 1650s
Hi Thanks for your addition to Lundy however it means that the article now has conflicting dates: "In 1656 the island was acquired by Lord Saye and Sele" (which is supported by a reliable source) & "In 1655 a force of 40 Ottoman ships captured the Isle of Lundy, which served as the main base for Ottoman naval and privateering operations in the North Atlantic until 1660" - unfortunately the reference you gave isn't working for me. Caribbean Countries
Hey, I was just wondering by what criteria you are adding/removing the Caribbean countries category from different articles. Some form of criteria is needed for these categories. Chipmunkdavis (talk) 17:47, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- There should be consistency between the country articles and the country categories included in the Category:Caribbean countries. Categorization should correspond to the definition in List of sovereign states and dependent territories in the Caribbean. Goustien (talk) 17:51, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- Quite fair. I had no idea that page even existed (and I have edited most of those country lists). However, that page currently doesn't include the dependent territories, and if it did I doubt it would include areas like the Caribbean Netherlands. Instead the Netherlands should probably be included somehow. Tricky. Chipmunkdavis (talk) 17:55, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not an expert in this, but I believe Caribbean Netherlands is a political entity, one of the successors to the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles. Goustien (talk) 18:08, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- As far as I know the Caribbean Netherlands is not a single entity, but a collective name for the three entities (Bonaire, Saba, and Saint Eustatius) that have been integrated into the Netherlands proper. All three have individual municipal governments. Of course, even before dissolution they were still all legally full parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and thus legally not dependent territories. I'll look into finishing up that Caribbean list, basically copying off List of sovereign states and dependent territories in North America later, unless you or someone else wants to do it. That correspondence point you raised is good, I suppose similar lists should be checked for that consistency as well. Chipmunkdavis (talk) 18:26, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
- Note: although these are three separate entities, they are all administered by the National Office for the Caribbean Netherlands. Goustien (talk) 13:40, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Category:Netherlands Antilles stubs
Hi Goustein - your newly created stub category, Cat:Netherlands Antilles stubs has been speedily deleted. It was a re-creation of a stub category which was deleted at WP:SFD in November last year. With very few exceptions, stub types are only used for existing political entities - changes to the Netherlands constitution rendered the term Netherlands Antilles obsolete, and as such, stubs relating to this former entity were re-assigned to the new term Caribbean Netherlands, or to the respective Sint Maarten and Curaçao stub categories, or both. In future, if you wish to make major changes to existing stub types (such as renaming or creating templates or categories), please do so through the usual process pages, WP:SFD (nominations for renaming or deleting) or WP:WSS/P (proposals of new stub categories and templates). Thanks, Grutness...wha? 06:00, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- OK, but the problem I see is with the generated Category:Caribbean Netherlands stubs. For example, Charlison Benschop was born in Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles, but I think he had nothing to do with the present Caribbean Netherlands. Goustien (talk) 15:29, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- That's a common situation - we have people born in the Kingdom of Savoy who are listed under France or Italy, people born in German East Africa listed under Tanzania, and people born in Bohemia listed under Czech Republic, for instance. It just makes it easier to limit stub types to currently existincg countries except in a few major cases (e.g., USSR, Ancient Rome). Otherwise there'd be several times as many stub types to patrol, and some people could end up with a large number of stubs if they lived in a time of frequent boundary changes. Grutness...wha? 02:08, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I see this situation as somewhat different from those examples. The Kingdom of Savoy is now part of French or Italian territory. German East Africa is now part of Tanzania. Bohemia is now part of the Czech Republic. But Curacao is NOT part of the Caribbean Netherlands, which refers to three entirely separate Dutch islands. But now I see someone else recreated Category:Netherlands Antilles stubs on 29 June 2011. Goustien (talk) 20:33, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Arthur Gordon Pym
Sorry to be a pit pushy on The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. Obviously, Poe refers to the Polly but a self-reference isn't the best choice here. The section is for sources of inspiration to Poe; unless a reliable source is found that shows the event was a significant inspiration for Poe's writing the book, it's out of place. Alternatively, it might be worth mentioning in the plot summary, which doesn't need outside referencing. What do you think? --Midnightdreary (talk) 13:19, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- What about the second source I listed: Huntress, Keith (1944). "Another Source for Poe's Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym". American Literature. 16 (1). Duke University Press: 19–25. Retrieved 2011-09-08.? Huntress argues that Poe probably read details of the Polly in a book by R. Thomas, Remarkable Events and Remarkable Shipwrecks (New York: 1836). Huntress supports this claim by citing parallel passages in Thomas (pp. 345-350) and Pym, including two long sentences quoted verbatim by Poe. I'll try to rewrite this information making specific reference to Thomas's work as an inspiration to Poe. Goustien (talk) 21:53, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry for not checking back sooner. That sounds like a good source to use! I wouldn't bother citing Pym itself, but definitely use Huntress. Cool. --Midnightdreary (talk) 19:19, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Same as List of countries in chronological order of achieving statehood, you should remove all the extinct states from the articles, only keep the existing ones. 207.233.71.179 (talk) 16:21, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
- Good idea. As a couple other users have suggested, the "extinct" states should be moved to List of former sovereign states. Goustien (talk) 03:02, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- I had fixed half of it. Could you check it to see whether they are relevant or not. A lot of countries, I don't know much about their history so I just the contents that are already there. There are many that appear more than once (such as Bulgaria, Vietnam, Georgia), I merge them all together so that they only appear once. Please check them. Thank. And you could continue to do the rest or I'll do it. Qajar (talk) 23:32, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Ducks
Hi there. I'm curious why you made this edit. 28bytes (talk) 05:30, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- Already in subcategory Category:Lists of fictional birds. Likewise for List of historical and fictional birds and List of fictional penguins. Goustien (talk) 06:03, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- That makes sense... thanks for the explanation! 28bytes (talk) 06:05, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Please explain You made several edits such as this which don't make sense to me. Can you please explain either on my talk or here and post {{tb}} on my talk. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 16:49, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Category:1810s in fiction refers to works set in the 1810s, not published in the 1810s. Compare the categorization of Category:1810s novels, etc. Goustien (talk) 17:03, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Obviously That's embarrassing. Thanks for cleaning up my mess! —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 17:16, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
