I was contemplating reviewing this article, finding it a bit bare for in-depth coverage, and found this article in the NYT that could go a long way to making the article more comprehensive. Regards, Skomorokh 19:06, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

GAN Secret of Evermore's plot section

Hello liquid, I'm reviewing the above GAN and we're pretty close to calling it done, the only problem is that some of the plot section remains unsourced because the game's dialogue does not show what's happening on screen. Does it need to be cited, and how could it be cited? If you get a minute I'd be very grateful. Someoneanother 11:31, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

4chan GA review

In the exceedingly unlikely event that you do not have an article you are bringing up to GA status watchlisted, I am leaving this message to inform you that I have reviewed 4chan and placed it on hold pending layout and image tag resolution. The fixes for this will probably not take long, maybe only 20-50 minutes of time. Hopefully we will be able to promote it shortly. Protonk (talk) 15:33, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

It was watchlisted; thanks for the note. —Giggy 01:23, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

RfA

It was directed at Synergy. It was used in a sarcastic sense because he had dismissed JayHnery's well-reasoned answer with one word, so I was dismissing his dismissal with also one word. JH had such a well thought out reason (one that may be disagreed with, but can be argued) that I found it insulting that Synergy had been so...dismissive. hbdragon88 (talk) 17:48, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Oh... LOL. Well said. I fully agree with you. </not too dismissive response> —Giggy 01:23, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Biography of the American Rock band Wild History

Wild History (hyperlink: www.dedalus.ch/management/wildhistory.php) first came together on September 6, 1984 in a rented Scotch Plains, New Jersey rehearsal room. Sean O’Gara (guitarist) and Ed Horton (bass) had left their band of the last several years, “The Score”, and had advertised for a drummer and a singer to form an original band. Announcing their influences as U2, The Clash, The Jam and The Gang of Four, they wanted to make music of political import which would deeply move the listener by its truth.

Joe Reina (drummer) was a basically dissatisfied drummer in a copy band known as Masquerade, and felt a move into something more adventurous would suit him. The one thing he did like about Masquerade was the singer they had recently acquired, Joe Florio (vocals). At first, Joe Reina met Sean and Ed alone. It was a satisfactory evening and all felt some sort of common chord had been struck, though they also knew that without a singer and front man they were still a long way from where they wanted to be. On that night the drummer told them about Joe Florio and that he would ask him if he would be interested in auditioning.

When Joe Reina asked him to try out for an original band, he immediately expressed interest in doing an audition. From the first notes played on that fateful September 6th evening, all felt an overwhelming sense of promise. Sean’s funky, driving Viper guitar and Orange amp combination pressed urgently between the spaces in Ed’s tuba-like, melodic Rickenbacker bass lines, while Joe’s straight ahead drumming provided the necessary steady backbeat. Joe Florio’s vital and passionate vocals urged the other three to challenge each other, thus completing the chemistry between them. On that first night an extensive nucleus of a song that would later come to define their sound, “Forget You”, was born.

Nevertheless, they all wanted to be sure this was no illusion, so they arranged to meet a second time in two weeks. On that afternoon Ed’s self-penned “Right Through My Heart” was taught and run-through several times (This would be the lead track on the band’s only album “Guns or Butter”), as well as Sean’s intense “J’ai Malais”. An unusual, quirky harmony was created between Joe and Ed in the former tune, and Sean and Joe also sounded good together. By the end of that session each one knew this was the collaboration they had been seeking.

Over the next 6 months the band refined their repertoire. Some songs were brought in as individual compositions. The aforementioned tunes, as well as Ed’s “Struggling to Be Heard” and “Cousin Danny’s in the I.R.A.”, and Joe Florio’s “Going Now” and “John Smith” were composed and/or refined. But it was the songs they wrote almost effortlessly in jam sessions (something that would come to be standard for the group for most of its history) that left the greatest impression on the members: “Forget You”, “French Bayonet”, “Bombs”, “Too Hot to Trotsky”, and the signature Wild History song that was never left out of a gig, “Dear Mom”. Ed and Sean felt they had undoubtedly achieved their goal of making moving and important music, and the two Joes were completely enthused by what was happening, and impressed by the talents of the other two.

By the winter of 1985 the band was playing in small New Jersey clubs but they had not yet been able to attract the interest of he recording industry. Wild History decided that gigs were not as paramount as obtaining a recording contract, and therefore turned their attention to recording a demo. Their first two attempts failed to capture the sound they produced “live”. Finally, in the summer of 1985 they came up with a successful demo recording, and began sending the tape out to record companies. However, nothing came of these efforts over two months.

During this time Sean’s life changed in many ways, including the painful break-up of a long relationship and the offer of full-time work as an animal rights activist. Unfortunately, taking this position required a move to Maryland. He accepted it, though, and reluctantly informed the group members of his decision. Sean had been the unannounced leader of the group, and this came as a severe blow.

It took five months to find Sean’s replacement, but when Chuck Dzugan simply struck his guitar the band knew their prayers had been answered. The group’s second line-up had finally emerged, and within 4 months they were playing a strong 17 song set to audiences not only in New Jersey, but in New York City.

Eventually the band’s demo tape landed in the hands of the entertainment lawyer Alfred Goldfield, who had strong ties to the recording industry, particularly Columbia Records and Clive Davis. Soon A&R representatives from several record labels were attending the band’s performances regularly. Nevertheless, the band remained unsigned.

They remained confident, however, and found an investor to fund the recording and pressing of their only album, “Guns or Butter” (Breaking Records, 1987. In the end, the album did not fully meet the band’s sonic expectations, though it did reach the Top 10 on several college radio play lists (CMJ Report, April and May 1987). The record companies were still interested, though, so the band began rehearsing intensely, and in a few weeks was gigging again in New York City before record company representatives.

This final stage of the band’s history had its interesting points, one of which was the writing became more individual and less collective. This had not been a part of the writing process up to this point. It was a relatively prolific period in which the individual personalities took center stage, though each always had the band’s best interests in mind.

Soon they were in the studio recording the band compositions “I Tell the Lies”, "Stay Awhile" and “Whatcha Gonna Do?”, and a song that ironically garnered some interest, Joe Florio’s “In Our Time” (CMJ Report’s “Certain Damage” CD, Vol. 15), ironic because it was not at all a signature Wild History tune. Joe Florio's “How in the World (Would I Know)”, “Eye of the Serpent” and "I'm Washin' Away", a singular rendition of Harry Nilsson’s “Jump into the Fire” (which the band had been playing in concert since the early days), Sean’s “Rule of the Hammer”, and Chuck’s “The Savour” also made their way to tape. Though this was an interesting period, it was perhaps this more individualistic stage of the band’s career that later proved to be the main contributing factor to its demise.

After the recording industry lost interest in the band in early 1989, Wild History decided to disband in the summer of that year.

Biography on Wild History

Dear Giggy,

Please excuse the posting of the article on the American rock band Wild History yesterday without a previous request. This is the very first time I have attempted an entry for Wikipedia and did not fully understand the protocol. .

I am hoping that you could spare the time to comment on this first draft of an article I would like to contribute.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Noragiannini (talk) 06:11, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I would suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:Your first article, which provides a useful reference on how to contribute an article to Wikipedia. Let me know if you need any help after that. Cheers. —Giggy 07:44, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

"Deja Vu" audio file

Hello giggy. As objected in the previous FAC, the audio file Image:DejaVuSample.ogg must be reduced in fidelity to comply WP:NFCC. With another try, I'll bring Déjà Vu (Beyoncé Knowles song) to FAC room sometime this month, hopefully, and I need your help to do the abovementioned. Thank in advance. You may check the previous FAC if you want. =) --Efe (talk) 12:16, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I ran it through Audacity and it's now 71kbps. Not sure if the sound quality is any good, and I'm not in the position where I can test it now, but hopefully this helps. —Giggy 23:13, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
At least its now of lower fidelity. Thanks giggy. --Efe (talk) 23:55, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.
Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:43, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

That's okay — maybe I wasn't born to be an admin in the first place. That's life, and I can just keep on keeping on without the tools, which is what I'll do. I know you've been through the process a few times, and I think it's a travesty that you're not an admin yourself. In the event that you're not sick of RfAs and you're up for another someday, you'll have my strong support, pal. Cheers, Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:43, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks!

Thank you...

...for participating in my RfA, which closed with 119 in support, 4 neutral and 5 opposes. I'm honestly overwhelmed at the level of support that I've received from the community, and will do my best to maintain the trust placed in me. I 'm also thankful to those who opposed or expressed a neutral position, for providing clear rationales and superb feedback for me to build on. I've set up a space for you to provide any further feedback or thoughts, should you feel inclined to. However you voted, thanks for taking the time out to contribute to the process, it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Gazimoff 20:57, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

GA and FA Taskforce

(message from WP:VG)

Okay I just made a cabal that was created to focus on one article at a time and then the entire cabal would have helped to get that article to at least GA status(or even FA). So I then requested the cabal to be deleted after a long talk about it and so i then had a conversation with Keeper 76 and xeno about the cabal after the deletion. Afterwords, xeno suggested a GA FA taskforce in WP:VG that would do the same thing my cabal would have done. So now i come before the grand court known as WP:VG to suggest a GA FA taskforce. My taskforce will pick one article at a time to build, move to another and and build that one. This would give WP:VG many more GA and FA. Consider my proposal. Um... OK. I don't get why you can't just write the articles and ask for help at WT:VG if you need it. I also don't get why you're telling me this. >_> —Giggy 23:35, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

(The following is a message I wrote to User:Irpen recently where I apologised for my loss of temper. In the message I speak to anyone I have upset/angered and I apologise to them. As you and I have had our disagreements, Giggy, I thought it'd be advantageous to paste you the message too. I hope you can forgive me.) - Yeah... *through gritted teeth* thanks Keeper. - No. I shall stop being angry now. I guess I've always had a bad temper on here and it really has collided with some people. I've decided to stop giving into the addiction :-) - I don't think I'm a bad person. I know how to be nice and polite. I guess I just lose control when I see things that I believe are wrong. That happens with everyone. Irpen, in the past, I've found some of your comments to be enraging to the point of wanting to burn my whole flat down. But oh well :-) I am passed that as of now. I have nothing against you personally. You're a human being. I'm genetically programmed to love you in some sort of fashion. Maybe not physically just yet... We'll talk about that another time (if you're into that sort of thing... I'm game if you are?). Anyway, I'd just like to say I'm sorry for losing my temper with you. I promise I won't engage in any future discussions on Wikipedia that will lead to me swearing or losing my temper. This includes ignoring Kurt Maxwell Weber, any cabals, Daniel Brandt, and the poo (that's not a swear word) stain that is Wiki Review. I promise I won't make fun of, belittle, insult or upset anyone (intentionally) ever again on Wikipedia or Wikipedia Review or on the Internet in general. I wholeheartedly and unreservedly apologise to anyone whom I have upset over the past 17 months and I will endeavour to patch things up with them again. Glaring oversight in the introduction which you really should fix:

Users generally post anonymously, and the site has been linked to "Anonymous" and Project Chanology. The Guardian describes 4chan as "at once brilliant, ridiculous and alarming."

That's clearly a description of how the site produces content, rather than its impact upon anonymity and conduct. It's an error which runs through the article, ignoring the fact that there is nothing proactive or technology-focused about the website: what sets it apart is the presence of lawspeakers and "chan culture" in relaying discussions. GA reviews

Hi! I've just written my very first GA review and would really appreciate some feedback so I know if I'm doing it completely wrong. Cheers, MSGJ (talk) 19:07, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Generally good. I might have put it on hold instead of failing it as the issues can potentially be resolved fairly quickly (but then, you're probably open to taking another look anyway). I also wouldn't suggest complete removal of the CBC section, but perhaps a reworking into the main Controversey section (in a less undue-weight-ish way). I've added a quick comment on the review. —Giggy 19:53, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I'll have a look at it again in a few days. Will it need nominating again or can I just promote it? MSGJ (talk) 06:10, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
I would keep an eye out and leave some more comments (or pass it) if the issues are resolved quickly, but it's probably up to the original nominator to take the initiative otherwise. —Giggy 06:57, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

No He Hasnt

When he goes around Marking pages for deletion and then deleting them from PS's account, When he reviews his own friends block and declines it in a manner of a joke, and protects his userpage, When he protects pages to keep his revisions , when he openly lies to his friends and tells half truthes, when he lets his girlfriend use his account. Heaqrd enough or shall i continue. In short, Heads gotta roll and we will wait and see what Jimbo and the Arbitrators do.   «l| Ψrom3th3ăn ™|l»  (talk) 14:16, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like to remind you not to attack other editors, as you did on User talk:Prom3th3an. Thanks for the charming welcome. :-) You're only 2 years late. —Giggy 14:31, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Havent we already got enough daft civility police who see "personal attacks" under every rock? --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 14:33, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
When the going gets tough, the civility police rise to the challenge. —Giggy 14:34, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
More's the pity. I just wish they'd all try to get out a bit a bit more, become extinct, grow up ... or something like that anyway. ;-) --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 14:38, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Where is Prom3th3an's "welcome wagon" warning for calling Giggy a "nutter?" Or even worse, for comparing a wikipedia password sharing incident to murder, demanding that "head's roll"? Isn't that a physical threat? Keeper ǀ 76 17:05, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
I decided to strike that warning out, There's already to much happy clappy crap on Wikipedia as is, besides sometimes being blunt can be very satisfying ;-)   «l| Ψrom3th3ăn ™|l»  (talk) 17:30, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
(<-) Giggy, I'm extremely disappointed in you for making this egregious personal attack. I'm surprised that you haven't yet been blocked indefinitely - I'd do so myself if I was still an admin. (Though seriously, I think that bashing these "civility police" like this isn't really fair - they're probably just too new to know any better. I know I was a rampant advocate of "civility" up until a few months ago.) Nousernamesleft (talk) 20:04, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
First time I noticed that you'd given up +sysop, Nousernamesleft. Darkspots (talk) 21:25, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
That I did, for rather complex reasons. Uncontroversially though, so you can be assured that supporting my RfA was not the biggest mistake you ever made - only the second or third biggest mistake. ;) Mostly, it was because I really have no interest in any adminy tasks anymore and I felt guilty keeping them, though there were other factors. Nousernamesleft (talk) 01:59, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
I did notice a distinct lack of controversy. Hope everything's okay, regardless. Nah, supporting your RfA was great because then I never felt guilty afterwards, dragging you out as an example of a younger admin with at least half a clue. :) Darkspots (talk) 02:37, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

NUL: Honestly? OK, I've taken your opinion on board. A block would have looked funny since I was sleeping at the time of your comment, but whatever. Oh, just noticed... indefinitely?? Wow; if we did that we'd have about 3 editors left, none of them with any ability to write articles. Aah well. I will refrain, in future, from praising the acting skills of others. —Giggy 04:22, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Simmer down, he was kidding. Gah, Giggy... GAH! WP:CIV! Pull it together! This is a dictionary, I mean atlas, er... shit... uhm... thesaurus? No, damn. OH! Encyclopedia we're building here, man. Get with the program. Jennavecia (Talk) 04:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Fair use Rationales

Hi, any chance of standardising those into variants of the {{rationale}} template forms that exists?

The reason for desiring standard templates is so that bots don't inadvertently mistag, and for consistency across the project.

It's also noted that some of the images that have disputed fair-use rationale for insuffcient detail, have been tagged as such because of sourcing concerns as well as detail in the actual justifcation. Perhaps you could consider further expanding the rationales you have to address such concerns?

Sfan00 IMG (talk) 00:07, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Um... bots should only tag if there is no link to the article. That's the limit of machine readability tagging. The rest is human tagging, and in those cases I suggest the human read the FUR rather than looking for a template. I will look into adding extra detail. —Giggy 04:22, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Probably not. Telling people that they have to look at an article because you think they're the right person for the job (hint: I know very little if anything about the subject matter) is a sure fire way to get a "no". —Giggy 08:15, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Thriller lead

Hi Giggy, I've left a message at the FA assessment, not sure what you think. I'm quite happy for you to alter the lead to how you like it, I'm not too OWNy with the article. You did a good job fixing the lead to Discipline (Janet Jackson album) when that was at GA so I trust you can do a better job than me :-) — Realist2 15:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Date autoformatting in Acid2

Hi Giggy,

Please feel free to remove the date formatting from all the dates in the Acid2 article, excluding the ISO-format dates used in the references. I don't really like date autoformatting and would be happy to see it go. At the very least, could you point me towards the tool you mentioned that can delink the dates automatically? —Remember the dot (talk) 22:01, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Majorly's RfC

Hey there Giggy, Nice summary of issues for Majorly. I had been thinking about one as well, but hadn't decided one way or another... and was probably going to let it die because he disappeared. (Which is probably because of the RfC, and he is showing a sign of maturity.)---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 07:01, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Greeting Giggy. Glad to make your acquaintance. Thanks very much for the reply to my question, I posted a brief follow-up at the same spot. Take good care, HG | Talk 07:54, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your response there. Just wanted to let you know that I looked over some of the evidence and left some comments that are critical of your evidence. (Also brief not in the RFC/U Talk.) Nothing personal, I hope you understand, just did the best I could. Be well, HG | Talk 09:54, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Noticed that. Will try and get a response up as soon as possible. —Giggy 09:57, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit?

I noticed at WP:PRV that you do copyediting for rock bands. I've noticed you're GA reviews on other bands, and I was wondering, if it was okay with you, if you could do a copyedit on Say Anything (band). Let me know. Thanks. --pbroks13talk? 17:09, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a bunch. Hopefully it will eventually get there! I appreciate it! --pbroks13talk? 06:20, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Hope you can help me

I've been improving this article WarCry (band) for a while and recently nominated it for Feat. Artc. but it failed, because of the way it ws referenced and some grammar errors, they guys suggested me to find a peer review volunteer to help me w/ the article, or at least tell me what's wrong and show me a way to fix it. I'm about to keep looking for volunteers, and might find another one. I see that you are one of the few people interested on Rock music that have volunteered to be a peer reviewer, so I ask for your help and would greatly appreciatte anything, thanks in advance (Please answer back on my talk page when you read this message)  Rockk3r Spit it Out! 04:21, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Singapore Airlines mediation

Hi there, you may remember this Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2008-02-22 Singapore Airlines from a few months ago. An RFM has been instigated at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Singapore Airlines and opening comments are at Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Singapore Airlines. Please note comments made at User_talk:Huaiwei#Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_mediation.2FSingapore_Airlines.23Opening_statements, and my comments to the mediator at User_talk:Ryan_Postlethwaite#Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_mediation.2FSingapore_Airlines.23Opening_statements. I would appreciate your input in this matter, as the "as I see fit" is not acceptable IMO. Cheers --Russavia Dialogue Stalk me 10:33, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Bleh. I'm sorry to say I recall very little from that dispute and my commentary probably wouldn't be overly helpful =\ Good luck with it, though. Ryan's a good guy who'll hopefully be able to help you out. —Giggy 06:51, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Giggy,

Thanks for all your help. Between your advice and the constructive criticism of a couple of reviewers, this has ended up being a far more challenging--yet rewarding--process than I ever thought possible. It's made the article better than I could have ever hoped to on my own, either. Whew!

Now, I'm off to try and make some featured content. You know anyone who could serve as a reviewer/coach for a featured list? Jclemens (talk) 00:11, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your suggestion, Gary King was quite receptive. I'm off and running on my next project, getting List of universities and colleges affiliated with the Churches of Christ to FL. Jclemens (talk) 19:39, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Reference for Canadian singles

Since you like music, mind helping me find Canadian music references? :) At List of Billy Talent awards I'm trying to find a reference for "The band has had seven singles peak at number one on the Canadian Singles Chart: "Try Honesty", "River Below", "Nothing to Lose", "Devil in a Midnight Mass", "Red Flag", "Fallen Leaves", and "Surrender"." but it is difficult. I'm more familiar with finding references for the American and British charts – would you happen to know a good site for Canadian charts? Gary King (talk) 05:53, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Looks like allmusic only has charts for albums and not singles? Gary King (talk) 05:58, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh well no biggie: here Gary King (talk) 06:02, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Weird indeed. Try this one. Oh, and ref 3 of the list needs a URL (it's currently "[at number Billy Talent awards]". allmusic. Retrieved on 2008-08-31."). —Giggy 06:07, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey mate, if you've got time could you review Slipknot Demo at Wikipedia:Peer review/Slipknot Demo/archive1 and Welcome to Our Neighborhood at Wikipedia:Peer review/Welcome to Our Neighborhood/archive1? Thanks for the reviews. I normally wouldn't bring short articles to GAN but these are for an FT so they need to be done. In my mind, these were on the fence for passing GAN; in the future, would you recommend I just bring them directly to PR to get them audited, without going to GAN?
