Administrators' newsletter – August 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2022).
- An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
- An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.
- The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
- Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)
- The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.
- You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.
- Wikimania 2022 is taking place virtually from 11 August to 14 August. The schedule for wikimania is listed here. There are also a number of in-person events associated with Wikimania around the world.
- Tech tip: When revision-deleting on desktop, hold ⇧ Shift between clicking two checkboxes to select every box in that range.
Query
Hello,
I have a question I was wondering if I could ask u as an administrator:
TeeVeeed was banned from editing under the Kiwi Farms topic. Since from my understanding Kiwi Farms falls under gender and sexuality - as Tee's recent vio of their ban was logged here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1109061667 - would this msg they sent on Talk:The Right Stuff (blog): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1109039416 be another topic ban vio since The Right Stuff is also a Nazi site like Kiwi Farms was Stephanie921 (talk) 18:43, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Stephanie921: Full disclosure, I'm not an admin. But I'm somewhat familiar with the matter you're referring to. I only see a discretionary sanction at Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement log/2022 banning the editor from engaging at Kiwi Farms, not at any other page. The editor was notified here that pages they were editing on the topic of gender and sexuality opened them to sanctions for any violations of policy. But I don't see that any sanctions were issued for the editor's actions at any page other than Kiwi Farms. It would be up to an admin to determine if the editor violated policy and should also be banned at any other page. General Ization Talk 20:29, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, ty Stephanie921 (talk) 20:32, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
Punjab, Pakistan
For last 30 days, I have been fixing the literacy rate and HDI of Punjab, Pakistan which is 66.3% and 0.564 respectively according to the given references but someone again mess up with them. Therefore, I had no other option but to remove literacy and HDI so no one can mess with it. So I request you to fix the literacy rate and HDI. Also, lock the Punjab, Pakistan wiki page Salman1911k (talk) 08:16, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Snitches are rewarded! Protonk (talk) 05:47, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Protonk: You don't get to damage the project because you think you were slighted by @Bbb23. Keep it up and you'll have your own section at ANI. General Ization Talk 05:51, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
Observation about the Rajacenna article
In regard to the edits of GilaNola you reverted, see this message left by Jacera at my user talk page. It seems highly likely to me that the two accounts are connected. —C.Fred (talk) 11:15, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- @C.Fred: Yes, although they seem to disagree on the subject's birth year. General Ization Talk 17:29, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
Edit request mis-templated
I'm hunting down policies, and your response template to Talk:Donald Trump#Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 17 August 2022 was incorrect, as what the user requested is basically identical to one of our example edit requests. The better option for the Talk page appearance would seem to me to be that I contact you directly about this and let you decide if you want to remedy it. A proper template would have been {{subst:Ep|n}}
followed by an appropriate explanation to the effect of: "Sources are not required to be cited inline in the lead section when the information is well-attributed in the article body," perhaps with a section link or ref number to boot. Remember, for many readers the edit request may be their first interaction with the "community experience" of Wikipedia, so official-looking action especially should have every appearance of due consideration and care. SamuelRiv (talk) 22:34, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- My response was correct for the simple reason that "The last line of the main page before edits" does not identify exactly what content the editor was referring to and proposed be changed. Are you sure you're writing concerning my response? Another editor responded shortly after me advising that the content that editor believed they were referring to was present by consensus. Administrators' newsletter – September 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2022).
- A discussion is open to define a process by which Vector 2022 can be made the default for all users.
- An RfC is open to gain consensus on whether Fox News is reliable for science and politics.
- The impact report on the effects of disabling IP editing on the Persian (Farsi) Wikipedia has been released.
- The WMF is looking into making a Private Incident Reporting System (PIRS) system to improve the reporting of harmful incidents through easier and safer reporting. You can leave comments on the talk page by answering the questions provided. Users who have faced harmful situations are also invited to join a PIRS interview to share the experience. To sign up please email Madalina Ana.
- An arbitration case regarding Conduct in deletion-related editing has been closed. The Arbitration Committee passed a remedy as part of the final decision to create a request for comment (RfC) on how to handle mass nominations at Articles for Deletion (AfD).
- The arbitration case request Jonathunder has been automatically closed after a 6 month suspension of the case.
- The new pages patrol (NPP) team has prepared an appeal to the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) for assistance with addressing Page Curation bugs and requested features. You are encouraged to read the open letter before it is sent, and if you support it, consider signing it. It is not a discussion, just a signature will suffice.
- Voting for candidates for the Wikimedia Board of Trustees is open until 6 September.
2601:246:5600:193
Not sure what to do about it, but User talk:2601:246:5600:193:385B:390F:95CF:8C53, who you gave a final warning to in July, is back, as 2601:246:5600:193:E1F1:6B7F:FCDD:890B (talk · contribs · (/64) · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). GA-RT-22 (talk) 20:04, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
- @GA-RT-22: Not much to do about it, as the former IP is not blocked (so it is not block evasion) and a checkuser will not able to show that they are the same person (other than behavioral evidence). All we can really do is template them for new bad edits, and request they be blocked if they persist. If other IPs in the range are currently active and engaged in vandalism, a range block may be appropriate. General Ization Talk 20:33, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
Edit made in list of old trees is correct.
The line that I added to the above mentioned page of wikipedia (mentioning again - "List of Old Trees") is correct since I picked this data from another wikipedia page Titled - "Old Tjikko" (source provided - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Tjikko) and hence, not totally sure but, I believe what wikipedia has stated in that page is right. I am not much concerned about the addition of that line but if you care, consider it adding to that page. EditNew10 (talk) 17:35, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- @EditNew10: Wikipedia may not be used as a source for itself. If the article at Old Tjikko includes citations of published, reliable sources that support the claim, you must reproduce those sources in adding the content to List of oldest trees. You may not add the content without citing a source with the content. General Ization Talk 17:39, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- @EditNew10: Also please note that Old Tjikko is already listed in the table at List of oldest trees#Clonal trees. General Ization Talk 18:26, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
I understand. Thanks EditNew10 (talk) 17:18, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
Lavash page edit
Thank you for the message. I have cited sources at the end of the text. These sources were already on the wikipedia page in other sections. Please let me know how I can improve 62.122.119.214 (talk) 00:22, 3 October 2022 (UTC) user 62.122.119.214
- The sources should be added in proximity to the content they support, not at the end of the article. If the same source supports multiple elements in different locations in the article, cite the source multiple times, in each case adjacent to the content (it is possible to combine the citations later). See WP:CITE and WP:BURDEN. General Ization Talk 00:25, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – October 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.
- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. If you wish to help out at AFC, enable AFCH by navigating to Preferences → Gadgets and checking the "Yet Another AfC Helper Script" box.
- Remedy 8.1 of the Muhammad images case will be rescinded 1 November following a motion.
- A modification to the deletion RfC remedy in the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been made to reaffirm the independence of the RfC and allow the moderators to split the RfC in two.
- The second phase of the 2021-22 Discretionary Sanctions Review closes 3 October.
- An administrator's account was recently compromised. Administrators are encouraged to check that their passwords are secure, and reminded that ArbCom reserves the right to not restore adminship in cases of poor account security. You can also use two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide an extra level of security.
- Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections open 2 October and close 8 October.
- You are invited to comment on candidates in the 2022 CUOS appointments process.
- An RfC is open to discuss whether to make Vector 2022 the default skin on desktop.
- Tech tip: You can do a fuzzy search of all deleted page titles at Special:Undelete.

Hey! Thank you so much for saving my edits to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radu_the_Handsome. It's difficult to keep that page updated with the correct information because bigoted people keep deleting that (historically accurate) passage about his life. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you :) Isracharisma (talk) 19:58, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

UnConstructive edit ? The new generation not interested to read articles or lengthy articles. In 4G internet speed they love listing audiobooks like alexa or any other voice assistance they prefer. If we listened a messy article . The voice over of any AI narrator comes in fast forward. my sapce between paragraph is a pause. And this pause comes in narrator voice.
If i am wrong then defiantly i need help of someone like you and any other senior wikipedian. But in my opinion My editing comes in good faith.

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. (T319449)
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
- The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add
/64
to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.

Sorry, I came at you a little hard in my response as well; I'm fairly skilled at the dodge and parry when I'm taken to task. I should indeed have not posted my query right before having to step away. I deserved the chastizing, to some degree. :) cheers. anastrophe, an editor he is. 23:04, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm sorry too if the "drive-by" comment seemed uncalled-for. I noted that it was your only edit (at that time) today, and was unfairly assuming that you likely wouldn't return today. If the OP had been proposing that the term had to be denoted as a slur (as apparently this editor seems to think), I would have been far less diplomatic with them, but I thought they did the right thing by raising the topic at the article to see what other editors thought about the issue before adding anything there; and so I was a bit puzzled by your suggestion that it was a "pointless" discussion. As it happens, I agree with everything you said. General Ization Talk 23:11, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Little Einsteins
Annie’s shoes in Season 1 are actually pink and white, not MAGENTA and white. Plus, there should be no “The” before “Little Red Train”. Also, the Good Knight was the one who helped the Little Einsteins get the peas to make the soup for Rocket to eat, not the BAD Knight. Jason Feiner (talk) 01:15, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

I have made significant removals to this article to remove the supposed 6th and 7th ODIs and the 2nd to 5th T20Is. These matches did not exist, even in any planned form. They were added malevolently by User:115.96.197.111 on 3 August 2022. User:203.212.244.144 removed these changes on 5 August, but User:General Ization reverted this removal the same day. User:115.96.128.116 removed the changes on 17 August 2022, but User:Adakiko reverted this removal the same day.
There was no 6th & 7th ODI or 2nd to 5th T20Is. They should never had been added. As evidence of their non−existence I adduce Cricket Archive and Cricinfo.FieldOfWheat (talk) 20:50, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
- @FieldOfWheat: Several things do not add up here. First of all, 15.96.197.111 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) has made no edits on Wikipedia. Perhaps you meant 115.96.197.111 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). Secondly, nearly all, if not all, of the edits by 203.212.244.144 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) were very clearly vandalism, though I suppose it is possible they made a handful of constructive edits before going on a vandalism spree. If so, those constructive edits were probably undone in reverting the corpus of that vandal's edits. I will defer to @Adakiko to explain their reversion, though 115.96.128.116 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) did not provide any explanation for their removals, and unexplained
changesremovals, especially by IPs, are generally reverted. I have no particular expertise with regard to cricket, so am hoping that Adakiko will have and will be in a position to validate your edits. General Ization Talk 21:01, 22 January 2023 (UTC) - And I see you corrected your comment to refer to 115.96.197.111 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). General Ization Talk 21:04, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

Jesus, Antinoos, and historiography
The comment about the lack of sources for Antinoos has a lot to do with our article on Jesus - the point is that sources on both of them are almost totally lacking. But I was expecting a discussion of the historiography of both, not to put a reference to Antinoos into the article. Achar Sva (talk) 20:47, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- If you were attempting to make a point about the article Jesus, your wording was so vague as to make its relevance unclear. Please consider rewording if you repost. General Ization Talk 21:08, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

I don't understand why you reverted my good faith edit, nor your comment on my talk page. I removed spoiler content, and I clearly explained that in my edit information. I viewed the Chronicles page for basic information, and was extremely frustrated that a major spoiler was in the introductory paragraph. I did not want to find out how the series ends, and many people new to the franchise would feel similarly.
I don't understand why you took the aggressive course of reverting my good faith edit, rather than starting a discussion. I'm an experienced editor, the edit clearly was not vandalism. Aggressive reverts serve to discourage participation, and lack courtesy and respect towards other editors.
I have no problem with the article revealing the series conclusion/climax if it's buried deep. My problem is putting such sensitive information right in the first few sentences of the introduction. There's no need for it to be the first thing people read, and therefore having it spoil the series for additional people, the way it was spoiled for me Jozsefs (talk) 04:50, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Jozsefs: Read WP:SPOILER (as my edit summary explained). That you don't like spoilers, and want to spare others from them, is never a valid reason to remove content from articles here. Period. General Ization Talk 05:26, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
question for you
Whilst editing my talk page, at one point you replaced it with another talk page. Why? Stinkypants Simpson (talk) 01:21, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Not interested in discussing this with you, sockpuppet. General Ization Talk 01:39, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Notice of edit warring noticeboard discussion
Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Thank you. Maine 🦞 18:01, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
- GI, it might be a good idea to note in your edit summaries when your reverts are related to WP:BLP compliance. Three of the four reverts you were reported for did meet the criteria of WP:3RRNO for removing unsourced or poorly sourced material. —C.Fred (talk) 18:13, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
