Fio360

Thanks very much for cleaning up the references and such on this page.

I have a quick question and you seem to be very knowledgeable, so I hope you don't mind me asking. The Fio360 page was tagged for possiblye deletion due to lacking notability. The thing is, it was tagged by a user who deleted a sandbox of mine that accidentally got linked to a category and showed up under new pages, and thus I'm worried that the tag might be motivated more by skepticism of my work on the wiki in general than the actual page merit.

According to the source guidelines, as far as I can understand them, I am in the clear, and I know it needs expandsion, but that is coming. I just was wondering if you could look at the article and tell me if it is safe for now as far as deletion goes, and how much work the notability could use. I'd just like a second opinion on this matter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mlee1986 (talkcontribs) 18:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Mare E. Bryant Elementary

Thanks for the help on the Mary E. Bryant Elementary page. ChanBliss (talk) 03:38, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for alerting me about the changes made to the entry for Alfred Corn. The source for the information about his marriage, divorce, and subsequent partnerships is the author himself (confirm this by writing to him at alfredcorn1@gmail.com). He objected to the phrase, "around 1972 he declared himself a homosexual," on the grounds that Ann Jones knew this fact when they married in 1967. As for the prize from the Academy of Arts and Letters, it is listed in his bio at the Academy of American Poets website. I am sorry that I do not know all the editing techniques used by Wikipedia, or how to respnd to edits made by others. it is a very difficult system to master, and if Wikipedia wanted my advice, I would recommend making it easier. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ax555 (talkcontribs) 16:36, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Alfred Corn asks you to appreciate his dilemma. He was informed that the Wikipedia articles could be corrected when they were mistaken, as opposed to other kinds of published biogrsaphy. He doesn't regard the earlier statement about his sexuality as factually correct, and he isn't allowed to edit his own entry. He relies on someone to help him who can't master Wikipedia's system. I don't know how to communicate with you directly. You have removed the earlier message from this page, so this is clearly not the way to do it. As for the details about his sexuality and marriages, he refers you to “An Autobiography,” by Alfred Corn, Autobiography Series, Gale Research Press, 1996. But I myself do not know how to post this as a reference in the article. What has been cited as Wiki's great feature--its constantly improvable content--is, in practice, not that at all. To revise an article is an arduous process, not democratic and easily managed at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ax555 (talkcontribs) 19:46, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Removal of wikification/cleanup boxes on Ernest T. Cragg's biography

Hi Gene

I have spent quite a bit of effort enhancing Ernest T. Cragg's biography. I am wondering if it it cleaned up or wikified enough to meet Wikipedia's quality standards

Assistance with category for "List of Ctrl+Alt+Del: The Animated Series episodes"

In a recent edit to List of Ctrl+Alt+Del: The Animated Series episodes you restored the category with an explination of "restored & refined deleted category (Counts as TV for Wikipedia purposes)". The category keeps being removed with the reason "This is not a television series.". As I do not know how to locate the pertinant informantion on what counts as a tv series for the purpose of wikipedia, I am looking for any precident or anything to settle the category listing once and for all. I have readd-ed it once already, but again has been removed and I do not want to keep readding into an edit war. Any assistance in this matter is appreciated. Why delete K2GXT?

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from K2GXT, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

I do not understand your reasoning for marking K2GXT for deletion. We are licensed by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) of the United States of America as a valid collegiate Amateur Radio station. We have been a club since 1953 (if that doesn't qualify us as a club please let me know) and have been a part of Rochester Institute of Technology, it's educative and technological community since then. Here is a link to our FCC License http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=237359

I am writing most of the page simply because I have uncovered many documents that were filed away in storage at RIT recording the history of the club. Anyone is welcome to edit the page, I simply wrote that I was creating it and doing most work on it because actual documents are in my hands. I will be citing them, have not had a chance to upload them and link to them and such. Also, I am 400 miles from RIT on summer break and do not have access to computers owned by the club to host such a large database of documents (all of which are in the process of being digitally copied) and will when I return to school in September.

I respect your want to keep useless pages from being made but I want to let you know that we are a legit amateur radio station at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. I am not trying to be bias in any way on the info, I even contacted a member from the early 1980's and directed him to the wiki page. He has since then made a few corrections, I am incredibly happy about that.

Sincerely,

Bryce Salmi KB1LQC

Re: Why Delete K2GXT?

We have been published in QST multiple times over the years. I am working with the ARRL on getting copies of the documents and am working on seeing what I can do to cite to them, copies of the articles are NOT hosted online and I was only able to get them by asking, therefore I do not want to host the articles myself because I do not want to infringe on any of their copyrights, only time will make them available to us, I am sure Wikipedia would like me to not infringe on copyrights of QST and the ARRL. On another note, within the documents I have, there are reports of K2GXT being a relay station in the Grenada incident, winning multiple awards and publications of various forms in many national traffic system periodicals for excellence in traffic handling across the United States. Being honored for public service to the Rochester, NY community and much more that I haven't even been able to find yet.

As for Conflict of Interest, I still do not see why it is a problem that I put valid information on Wikipedia. As I stated before, I am completely fine with anyone editing the information. However, the club went through a period of relative inactivity and hence many of the Alumni and other amateur radio operators do not even know if the club still existed past the late 1990's. Many of the alumni are delighted to hear that the club is active again. Also, I have found that many people are generally interested in the club who may not even be licensed.

due to the fact that K2GXT is a college amateur radio station, every four or five years (engineering is a five year degree) the members graduate. Unlike an average club, we do not have anyone who was active in the club around 1952 who is still an active member of K2GXT. Therefor much of the information about the club that exists is what alumni have put into a K2GXT file cabinet. As I uncover more and more information and people to contact, more and more alumni learn that the club is active once again and that there is a wiki.

So I would absolutely be up for someone else to write information about the club who is not a current member of K2GXT. But it's nearly impossible and would have very little way of backing the information up. At any one time, the most activity a member could have with K2GXT is five years. In my hands are actual documents and papers that state the information prior to 2007 in writing. After 2007 the K2GXT website is where the information is stored.

Please keep in contact with me until we resolve this issue.

Sincerely,

  • Dear Bruce (because I know you'll check back here): please understand the hierarchy of deletes: first it gets PROD'd. Then, if the editor still believes it should be deleted after getting a "valid" complain about the PROD, then it goes to Articles for Deletion (AfD) ... you REALLY don't want it going to AfD if you can avoid it at all. With respect to conflict of interest: let's put it this way...a co-developer of a piece of software is not supposed to create articles about that piece of software. Keep that concept in mind. Gene93k, you need to visit more parts of Wikipedia, especially the Mediation Cabal. This actress has been significantly discussed recently, and this article (that USED to be a redirect) was properly created and cited as a partial response. I have added additional info on the talk page that never should have been needed. Good luck on your future edits. BMW(drive) 11:04, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

  • LOL no ... the Cabal case simply says that finding out whether the CHARACTER's name was "Heather Morris" instead of simply "Heather" is the only issue in Verifiability. Everyone knows and agrees that the actress was Heather Morris - it's inside EVERY box, and a link was provided yesterday to the manual that shows it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bwilkins (talkcontribs) 13:15, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

All settlements notable?

Over at Talk:San Mateo, New Mexico, you said, "Settlements are notable regardless of status or size."

I was going by Notability (Places and transportation), which says:

A human settlement such as a city, town or village is considered notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. Inclusion on an atlas or in a census is generally not be sufficient to demonstrate notability, as the coverage in an atlas is unlikely to count as significant and a census would count as a primary, rather than secondary source.

I'm not quibbling about contesting the prod (in fact, I'm happy to see that the article is much improved!), but I'm wondering: do you have a cite for saying that all settlements are always notable? Dori (TalkContribs) 22:24, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Bird Talk magazine

Responding to the "multiple issues" tag you added on Bird Talk, I've made considerable changes to the article, and removed the tag. To be honest, I'm puzzled by the presentation of the major editor. This isn't a magazine that needs to "defend itself", it's widely respected and has contributions from some of the senior academics and practitioners in the field. They do have a heavy marketing slant, and that seems to be the original motivation for the Wiki article. I'd like to strongly encourage them to give a broader representation of their accomplishments.

Regards, Alpha Ralpha Boulevard (talk) 12:40, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Gene93k, thanks for your comments on the Bird Talk page. I think I better let someone with more considerable background in the field carry on the improvements.
I noticed, btw, if you are working on similar problems -- that is, edits done on behalf of "BowTie Inc." -- That Aquariumfish seems to have similar editing habits (see Aquarium Fish International). Jonaboy1992, the editor responsible for much of the Bird Talk article seems to be the same person. Alpha Ralpha Boulevard (talk) 23:17, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Article/Union of Chinese Nationalists is making progress

Dear Gene93k:

The author of this article/Union of Chinese Nationalists is NOT a professional Wiki writer, nor is a native English speaker. He can only spend his partial off-duty hours working on it but still is it making progress (maybe slow progress). It is believed the stunning story of Union of Chinese Nationalists (Chinese Pan-Blue forces) has never been written in English until now. The Author cannot directly cite almost any English reference but references in Chinese can be found on the net. Citing sources for this article isn't a problem; but, without English sources, the author must take a lot time to do translation tasks so it hinders the overall writing progress.

Sincerely;

In my enthusiasm to fill out articles, I've been lagging in the reference department. I'm working towards getting everything together. Most of my Richardson articles are based on first hand observation or writings by Ochsner or other Richardson scholars. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kod2008 (talkcontribs) 01:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Also, I'm confused and genuinely disappointed that you removed the Richardson article about the Wellesley Hills railroad station. I understand your concern that it hasn't been fully referenced yet. The article was about the structure, not the MBTA stop. The structure was built for the Boston & Albany line and is not maintained as a station by the MBTA. They should be two separate articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kod2008 (talkcontribs) 02:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

This is pertaining to the HHN Records article.

  • WP:CORP, states, An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. WP:MUSIC states, A musician or ensemble is notable if it has had some sort of recognition by professional organizations, such as music charts. WP:RS, states, Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Music charts were submitted. Mass Record Pool, who are located in Boston Mass. They have no affiliation with the label. Illinois Record Pool is an world reknowed record pool servicing the entire world. The label has no affiliation with them. • Gene93k said without warrant, or obviously never verifying anything that the label published those charts theirselves. Those charts came straight from these entities web site and can be easily searched online and anyone who takes the initiative can easily determine that HHN is not affiliated with them in any way. And according to WP:RS. • Gene93k should have explained why those references were rejected. • HHNRecordsPR (talk) 21:40:03, 10 September 2008 (UTC) • GhostDog21 (talk) 02:39 11 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Regardless, That is a valid argument about the label. That wasn't the issue at that time. It was about lack of secondary sources. Nobody did their research or followed procedure, that is my point. That was posted to show that the so-called Administrators were not doing thier jobs.• GhostDog21 (talk) 12:38:31, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Those sources need to be WP:RELIABLE and coverage non-trivial to establish. The "renowned" record pools failed to impress me at the time that they were professional news or trade publications. A second look has has not changed my mind. And, yes I did search for other reliable sources. Your arguments and evidence failed to convince based on Wikipedia policies and guidelines. In fact, the HHNRecordPR edits have erased any doubts I might have had. The articles were self-promotion, a big no-no on Wikipedia. Finally, please don't bash the editors who don't see things your way. Petitioning them like this won't get your articles restored. • Gene93k (talk) 13:44, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
  • I'm not bashing anyone and nor am I insulting everybody in anyway. I'm just following the guidelines and procedures. We are having a debate. Ah, changing your stance now I see. Your original statement was, and I quote "The charts is self-published" which failed the WP:RELIABLE. Due to that, the debate should have never been closed. As, I did prove those were not "self-published" charts. Don't try to change it up now. And don't use the HHNRecordsPR edits, you didn't have that before. As I've already stated, I am NOT with the label and I am NOT HHNRecordsPD. At this time, I don't care about the article anymore. I just co-signed HHNRecordsPD's statements, The Administrators are not doing thier jobs right. That is my point. HHN Records is soon to be considered a major label, sombody will give them a proper article in due time.• GhostDog21 (talk) 15:07:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
  • There is no change in stance. Just because you didn't get a point-by-point comeback, doesn't mean you proved anything. Your arguments were unconvincing. After spitting hairs about how and by how much HHN's references fail, they still fail. The record pools are not considered WP:reliable sources by Wikipedia standards. Even if they were for the sake of argument, they lack depth to help HHN with WP:CORP. No shift here. Also, I don't see them as nationally-recognized charts to help the HHN's artists and records pass WP:MUSIC. The admins' main job at AfD is to judge editor consensus. The consensus was clear after nearly 5 days, credible proof of notability was not in evidence. If you feel differently, please take the decision to deletion review. Otherwise, this matter is closed until the soon to be considered major HHN Records gets some real press attention and not before. • Gene93k (talk) 16:32, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

(still new to wikipedia so i apologize if I'm fumbling with tags).

Gene93K,

In regards to: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Writer648&redirect=no

I was asked by Bigler to help make an entry about them on Wikipedia. I have permission from them to use the content from their website (our team did their website and wrote that content with their marketing department). I modeled the wikipedia content after the entries for Adobe (Software) and Occidental Chemical (whom I used to work for). Both of which use their company websites as a source of sentences and information. Something your post accuses me of.

Please reinstate the Bigler content for Bigler LP, and it's four subdivisions as it was not a copyright violation. Do I need to mark the content somehow that we have permission to use copyrighted material as we represent the company. I can email you from my Bigler email address.

Thank you, Writer648 (talk) 13:47, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

The Bigler articles had two serious problems: #1: copyright and #2: blatant advertising (another reason for deletion). You just added a third: conflict of interest. In short, you are not supposed to be doing this. The copyright problem can be cleared if someone at bigleronline.com emails permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL. Even then the content would need to be fundamentally rewritten to satisfy Wikipedia's content policies, most important neutral point of view. In short, a Wikipedia article about Bigler should be written objectively based on what independent reliable published sources say about it, not the company's promotional materials. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. • Gene93k (talk) 14:33, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Calamian Dragon

With regards to the use of the entry of Calamian Dragon, please re-consider the said article based on the following grounds:

   1. The use of coat-of-arms in the Philippines is very limited. It can serve as a real reference regarding bearing arms in the country.
   2. The Philippines and most Filipinos are relatively late in the employment of technology thereby resulting to many otherwise publishable mentions or articles to simply go astray. Meaning, that the fact about Calamian Dragon cannot readily be sourced online.
   3. The notability question may not be addressed yet online. But in reality, it has been addressed.
   Thank you...

FMC —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ferdinandude (talkcontribs) 14:52, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Notability will be addressed by verifiable references to reliable published sources either in print or online. So far, the references you have provided are non-specific or self-published. I am aware of the issue about online sources about Philippines topics, but an editor's assertions and promises are not enough to keep an article in Wikipedia. If this coat-of-arms is nationally significant, who notes that? If this Prod is contentious, perhaps we should take this to AfD for editor consensus. 18:16, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Deal Hudson

{{Need Help}} #REDIRECT [[External Links]]I am a complete WIKI Editor newbie and I need help on the Deal Hudson Biography. First of all whoever has posted this has done so to destroy the reputation of a person during this Election Season, not for the purpose of posting a Biograpy. The first External Link posted is from a source not even respected by Catholics; National Catholic Reporter has always been a publisher of content that promotes their particular cause. I don't have time to learn the Wiki World fast enough to do the right thing on this Biography. I not only value Wikipedia as a resource I believe that I do understand Wikipedia's philosophy.

In this case, Deal Hudson doesn't even have a Biography posted he has his transgression posted. I put into the talk page two articles that demonstrate that this is just one more attack page being attempted to smear his reputation because Deal Hudson is such an articulate master at communication and the anonymous contributor is on the other side of the debate!

Could you please remove either the whole biography as it is not a biography at all; or at least insert my talk pages ahead of what the anonymous contributor (who should be banned as an editor if attack pages is all they are committed to contribute as an Editor. This in not a legitimate Biography piece. Thank you.tmj (talk) 03:12, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
