Deleting pages with attacks or personal information

When deleting pages that contain attacks or personal information, you should blank the deletion summary that is automatically added for short pages, so that this text is not then permanently set in the deletion log for the page. —Centrxtalk • 01:30, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if a page has five hundred versions, and you want to remove just one, you don't have to manually tick 499 boxes. There's a quick way of checking all boxes, and then you just UNcheck one (or two, or whatever). See MediaWiki:Watcheditlist/Check all, which is actually intended for removing things from your watchlist, but works equally well when trying to check boxes from any website — even Amazon. Cheers. Ferric Attraction

--Apphysics7 16:34, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Although this isn't a widely known theory proposed by a scholar, it is gaining a lot of respect in the physics community. As of now, it isn't anywhere near to be known about on a national level, for this reason, many scientist have not been able to verify the theory through experiments, but soon shall. If we start letting people know about the theory now, people can make their own assumptions on its exsistence or not, and then be able to add to it. However, it is a plausible theory and you cannot shoot it down just because you believe it to be "non-sense." I beleive satanism to be non-sense be however you seem to have an article about that. Although it might have sources to cite, the article being written is first hand, I have yet to put out an article in any Journal, book, or magazine yet as so for my other peers. Please keep this page up for a while before you shoot it down without a second look.

Re:Welcomebot

Yeah, I figured that's what happened. Sheogarath is a sockpuppet of Molag Bal and has been blocked indefinitely on many of his sockpuppets. The guy isn't a bad editor, but he started going on some vandal spree and I had to block him (under the account Professor Sunderland). Then he made many sockpuppets and a bot called SpaceBot (I shut it down b/c it malfunctioned). We blocked all his accounts, but he came back now and he's admitted that he is Molag Bal. He's 14, so I'm cutting him some slack. His edits are mostly on the good side, but some have been bad in the past, which is why he was blocked. Anyway, I'm hoping he's changed his ways. I openly agree to the neologistic nature of the word anaclopen. Being, as I am wont to assume, you are a member of the mathematical community I believe that you see new words are necessarily created out of necessity and not desire. It was not long ago that mathematicians scoffed at the word clopen; it is now in standard usage.

You will note that I recently edited the article anaclopen to bring it to a higher level of wikipedia-level-professionalism. If there are further changes I can make to ensure the page's longevity, please inform me.

Jongray 23:56, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I now understand the argument being posed. The Wikipedia article creation process is a sort of Catch-22 as in order to get anaclopen into the realm of usage it must be published in a noticeable place (read: Wikipedia), yet Wikipedia does not allow such neologisms. I suppose a solution is to publish the term anaclopen in a journal and reference myself?

On a side note, I used Google to find any instances of "anaclopen," "aclopen," or "anticlopen" without success. So certainly this word is unique by virtue of the fact that Google knows all.

Also, I would like to point out that a possible argument against anaclopen is to use the phrase "not clopen." If one is versed in basic logic, however, they will quickly note that "not clopen" is not logically equivalent to "anaclopen" since not clopen implies not closed OR not open whereas anaclopen implies not closed AND not open: a subtle but significant difference.Jongray 03:00, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would write more than one sentence, if idiots didn't keep deleting them

Why should I bother writing more than one sentence, when idiots kept deleting the longer versions, stating they were too close to already published material elsewhere. What BS. When you write facts, and only facts, they are bound to repeat facts which are published elsewhere, there is no way of avoiding that. When I put a sentence down, I am simply upholding the fact there should be a full entry on these people, and hope that someone with more time than I have will finish them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dudedontworry (talkcontribs) 18:15, 12 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Note from USD 204 Bonner Springs and Edwardsville Public Schools, Kansas, USA

Hello, I’ve never signed up to this site and I was messaging you because I saw I had a ton of messages about vandalism I am very sorry about those incidences and I was wondering if there was a way to block me from editing but not viewing this site? I really love wikipedia, but I don’t have time to contribute, I mostly use it from public computers (I’m on citrix right now, which lets me get on my school server from home) and I think that some jerks are messing with my computer when I walk away or something. I know you may not believe it, but I am being very honest right now. And again, Im really sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry again, 66.142.39.61 12:32, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Don't worry about it! You can always read Wikipedia, even if the account or the computer you are using has been blocked. It sounds like other people have been using the school network and the public computers to vandalize. Because we identify people by their IP address if they don't create accounts, people who share computers or IP addresses sometimes get messages that aren't relevant to themselves. Blowing My Own Trumpet warning

Which template is this? It is a useful wording. StoptheDatabaseState 23:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it OK if I make it into a template? There's nothing that really fits the bill for blatant self-promotion on the current grid. StoptheDatabaseState 00:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My adapted version of the template can now be found at: Template:Trumpet. You can substitute the name of the article into the template like this: {{subst:Trumpet|User:StoptheDatabaseState}} . StoptheDatabaseState 00:14, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think the use of the "blowing own trumpet" phrase is apposite. It is well-known what it means, and self-promoters won't be able to deny it. Anyway, I've called the template 'Trumpet' now! StoptheDatabaseState 00:29, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Banning issue

Hello my fellow friend, FreplySpang. I am happy to see you have been admitted towards admin status and I respect your many contributions and elements of hard work that you have shown to Wikipedia. I have noticed that you have banned my second account, User:Darin Fidika (2), and I respect the fact that you did so as to keep Wikipedia from some inevitable harm. However, I wish only to contribute to Wikipedia to my upmost extent after being falsely banned by User:Nihonjoe. I was banned due to "blatantly copyrighting information". However, never once have I have solely copyed information from a specified site as to replicate it on to Wikipedia - such an action would be very shameful on my part. Truly speaking, Nihonjoe infinently banned me without understanding the situation at all but I still respect his actions as a true administrator that simply wishes to uphold the peace. All of the articles that I have ever written in the past have been accused as copyrighted articles solely because they had only one source; this is the reason to why I have been asking admins to discuss this issue. Nihonjoe banned me even though I continuously found external sources as to diminish such a conclusion - being copyrighted. When it came to "image copyrighting", I simply forgot to specify the copyright source - such as being a "video game cover" - or so forth. This, indeed, I am truly sorry for. I would like it if you could discuss this unjust banning to other administrators as to establish consent, because I shall always remain loyal to the ways of Wikipedia as a member of your foundation.

Thank you for your time my friend.

Administrative conflict of interest in the case of Ganesh, an administrator and an editor on this site

I'm copying part of my message to you that I've left at the IIPM talk page. This is just for your information as I noticed you commented on the talk page.

  • Thanks Ganesh. The reason I focused on fixing your spelling and grammar, was because I took offence to being told that I was accusing "established editors and administrators". Neither is Deepak any more "established" than a normal Wikipedia dabbler; nor are you, and more so in matters of English; and 'English', mind it, which forms the basis of Wikipedia. As Wikipedia confirms, we're not striving for perfection. Ergo, I do not expect your English to be perfect; and it is not, you make unbelievable subject-object, composition, modifying verb et al errors (and not just once, your statements do have many of those). It proves to me that to become an administator, one needs to be focused on following ethical guidelines of editing, and not necessarily on getting one's English appropriately conjectured. I find a clear conflict of interest in your continuing editing on this page, at the same time holding administrative responsibilities, at the same time awarding another editor for ensuring that he has kept controversial details alive on the page. I do not mind controversial details being discussed by editors. But I object to those being discussed by administrators with extra powers; even if they might not finally use their extra power openly. But you did use your powers indirectly. For information, instead of directing Deepak Shenoy to (file a request to) block the page, you chose yourself to write to Nishkid. And when you did message Nishkid to block the page, you did not message as an editor (which you could have). You deliberately told him you were an administrator (thus confirming your status) and requested him twice to block the page, which he, after a couple of days, did. His response must have been more positive because you are an administrator. Therefore, I put in a formal statement out here to request you to kindly not continue editing on this page or using your administrative capacities on this page. Ganesh, there is a clear and evident conflict of interest in your actions. If you agree, I shall not lodge a formal complaint. If you do wish to continue editing, I shall lodge a formal complaint and also let everybody in the Wikipedia community know such a conflict exists blatantly. I'll await your resonse. Regards, Mrinal 125.23.59.250 03:10, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply from HighBC's to user Mrinal's message

Dear HighBc, I noticed you had commented recently on a wiki site of IIPM. I wished to find out from you how to complain against a wiki administrator who, I have reasons and proof to believe, is misusing his powers to support one particular editor. If you can kindly show me the appropriate forum, I'll lodge a complaint against the administrator. I searched wiki and have not been able to find a link for the same. You could perhaps also go to the discussions page on the IIPM site to see my viewpoints regarding this. Regards, Mrinal Mrinal Pandey 12:27, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
