Hello! Your submission of An Introduction to the Three Volumes of Karl Marx's Capital at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) at your nomination's entry and respond there at your earliest convenience. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! WJ94 (talk) 12:07, 20 February 2023 (UTC)

I think the SS article needs a cleanup or deletion

As it stands, while you've been the only person brave enough to write an article on the subject, just obfuscates the subject more than a couple paragraphs in the incel article 108.44.212.160 (talk) 17:30, 20 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Seongsu Bridge, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Han River. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Article expansion

Hi, I spent about 10 hours continuously expanding the Sanctioned Suicide article, while trying to keep as much of your writing in as possible, as well as your article structure. Please take a look at it and keep whatever you like as it is your article, thanks, I am now going to bed and will probably no longer check on the article. I think this is the most anyone will expand it in a long time as I looked in every corner and added what I felt improves the article even more. Thanks for working on the article with me, I don't want to join wikipedia, but thanks for creating the article. 2600:4040:4030:5000:9C9A:4DD6:D74A:DDF4 (talk) 10:28, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently been editing gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, which has been designated a contentious topic. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

@Sideswipe9th Already fully aware. Which article is this with regards to? :3 F4U (talk) 20:58, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
GamerGate. It's considered a gender related controversy per Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Gender and sexuality#Motion: Remedy transfer to Gender and sexuality shell case (February 2021). Sideswipe9th (talk) 21:01, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
Ahhh, makes sense, thanks for the message. :3 F4U (talk) 21:02, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
P.S, if you're already aware of some of the contentious topics, you may wish to add {{Contentious topics/aware}} to the top of your talk page. You can list all of the topics you want to consider yourself aware of in it, and it'll prevent notifications like this in the future :) Sideswipe9th (talk) 21:03, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
Oooh thank you, that's handy, I was wondering how the talk pages of prolific editors weren't full of those messages :3 F4U (talk) 21:04, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
Hehe, happy to help! Thankfully with the change over from DS to CT, the awareness expiry clause has been removed. So when you're made aware of a CT once, you're generally considered to be so on an ongoing basis, which will cut down on the amount of these that are handed out. GA Review of 1984 New York City Subway shooting

Hey! Sorry for the much delayed responses on the first two rounds of your GA review—I realized that I had failed to put the GA review on my watch page, so I didn't notice when you added comments to it.--Jerome Frank Disciple (talk) 16:05, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

No worries! There's no rush here~ :3 F4U (they/it) 16:08, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
Hello! No rush at all, but I was just hoping for an update on whether you were still working on the GA review or if you considered that review to have been completed. Hope you're well!--Jerome Frank Disciple (talk) 15:03, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Hello! Thank you for the reminder, the article slipped my mind after not hearing about it for a bit. I'll take a look at your edits in a moment and hopefully complete the review. :3 F4U (they/it) 15:05, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Absolutely! I'm glad the note was helpful—I felt very self conscious about leaving it, worried it might leave the wrong impression. If you find this kind of thing useful, I tried to create a table compiling all the issues you had raised and their status. (It's only marked at 68% completed, but everything that's not done I just have questions on—except for the picture, which I'm working on now.)--Jerome Frank Disciple (talk) 15:22, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello!

First of all—I'm sorry the tone of the discussion at the talk page got, IMO, unduly contentious and personal. That may have been my fault: I failed to properly publicize the RFC, and given that I didn't have strong feelings on the category, I essentially created a situation in which only two editors were forced to debate back and forth. I hadn't called for an RFC before, and, to be totally honest, I didn't realize much publication would be necessary. I've since posted notices of the RFC on the talk pages of each of the categories in question, the talk page of the mass shooting category, the Village Pump miscellaneous page, the "no original research" noticeboard, and Wikipedia talk:Categorization.

Second, I just wanted to check in and see if there was anything else related to your Good Article review that you'd like to discuss or have me address. I completely understand if you'd like to wait for the RFC to finish to finish your review, but just in case you'd like me to do some work in the meantime, I thought I'd check.--Jerome Frank Disciple (talk) 14:30, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

It's really nothing to apologize for! Some of the comments made there were unnecessarily rude, but nothing that would be your fault. I've never started an RFC myself, so I don't think I would have been more successful than you. I'll add a few more comments on the nomination page to wrap things up. :3 F4U (they/it) 03:28, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Good morning!, I saw your edit here—and I realize that it might not reflect great on me that I invited a sock puppet editor to contribute to a pretty evenly split discussion. I just want to assure you that I only invited the user because I saw that user's edit on the page related to the "part of" component of the infobox, and I was a bit desperate for additional voices. In the future, I'll be far more careful about pinging editors I don't know into a discussion.--Jerome Frank Disciple (talk) 12:50, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention to imply anything about your actions! Socks are (sadly) common here and I was just doing some cleanup after they got blocked. There's absolutely no reason to believe you were acting in anything but good faith. :3 F4U (they/it) 13:17, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Made in Wonder Girls

Per MOS:TVNOW, all TV shows are referred to in the present tense. Please do not change it to "was" as you did with this edit [1]. Thank you. DonaldD23 talk to me 16:54, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Oooh thank you! I was slightly confused trying to figure this out. Would it be appropriate to correct gives to "gave" later in the paragraph since that's information about the show's production. :3 F4U (they/it) 18:59, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Yes, using "gave" would be correct since the show no longers "gives" a behind the scences look. But, since the show still exists, that is why we use "is" and not "was". I also changed the "was" to "is" on Landscape in My Heart that you changed, probably prior to my notice. Thanks! DonaldD23 talk to me 23:35, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Capital

I just wanted to say thanks for giving it another shot on getting the articles moved. It was dispiriting to see that the discussion proceeded more or less as last time and that if enough people make anecdotal assertions it beats well evidenced arguments. It's just the nature of Wikipedia I suppose. ThessalonianR (talk) 13:56, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Aww thank you! It's a shame, but consensus can change and I'm sure that at some point in the future, the articles will be updated. It is, after all, quite awkward to keep referring to the book as Das Kapital during regular prose. :3 F4U (they/it) 15:45, 29 April 2023 (UTC)

Question

Hey,

Thanks for your contributions on Korea-related articles, they're seriously so good!

I have a question: do you have any thoughts on what should be done with RR/MR romanization before 1945? Currently the MOS and the Naming convention pages contradict each other. MOS says RR, naming convention says RR.

What do you think? I'm personally unsure; it gets even greyer for 20th century Koreans, which is my main interest. toobigtokale (talk) 18:33, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

(FYI you've accidentally written RR twice) The norm in English-language sources that I've seen favors MR romanization (in historical cases), particularly for before the Korean War. Given that RR romanization (and similar variants) has only been adopted recently (during the 80s and 90s), Korean words and names that already have established English spellings generally all follow MR. I think that a lot of it has to be up to editor discretion, with an understanding that actual English-language usage trumps any claim of more faithful transliteration.
Also, I think the MOS page is in line with broader, practiced consensus, while the naming conventions page is a remnant of local consensus that has yet to be updated. A lot of people object entirely to the idea of using MR transliteration at all (if you look at the move logs for all of the Korean presidents, you can see this), which is probably why the guidelines in the naming policy exist at all.
Usually, the pattern I see is, unless the person has only gained prominence in English-language sources recently, English-language sources tend to follow the transliterations originally used for the person, even if that's not in line with modern suggested transliterations. :3 F4U (they/it) 19:35, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
(oops) Great reply, thank you! Agreed with everything.
I've been seeing lately that in English language sources or limited romanization of names published from Korea that they've been using RR and the weird mixed-RR format for names (e.g. 'Kim' vs 'Gim') for pre-Korean War. It may be the case in the future that most significant sources will end up using the new spelling, meaning we'll need to switch in a painfully gradual kind of way.
Think it's worth amending the Naming conventions page? If so I can post a talk topic there toobigtokale (talk) 20:17, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
We already use RR for things (with some exceptions like kimchi), but I think with people its not likely that people whose names have established English spellings are suddenly going to change. Names are unique in that way, particularly with regard to surnames. (Despite that, many editors have been trying to do unhelpful changes like moving Park Jong-chul to "Bak Jong-chul") If they were more obscure figures, there's more potential for an RR spelling to become the common name, but I think its still reasonable to suggest MR for most people, and use other spellings on a case by case basis in accordance with WP:COMMONNAME. :3 F4U (they/it) 00:29, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Page mover granted

Hello, Freedom4U. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. List of Intel Core articles

Hello Freedom4U,

I see that you have tagged the List of Core 2, i3, i5, i7, i9 articles with external links, lack of references, and too much detail notices. Well, could you have a look at the thread I've created at Talk:List of Intel Core processors#Table redesign and participate if you have anything to say? The "too much detail" caught my eye a bit there, as a number of my planned changes in the post-merge List of Intel Core article go over removing excessive detail and duplicate information, to improve readability and accessibility of the tables, and reduce their data footprints so the PEIS limit issue is significantly mitigated.

Sidenote: as it says in the It has been suggested that this article be merged notice at the top of Intel Core articles, the Core 2, i3, i5, i7, i9 articles are actually currently in the process of being merged into the List of Intel Core processors article, per the linked discussion, and so when everything's done and cleaned up on that article, the i3 i5 i7 list articles vice versa will be turned into redirects, so please keep that in mind. — AP 499D25 (talk) 05:28, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

I've added a comment on the talk page. As it stands, I think 90% of the content of each of the articles should reasonably be cut down. :3 F4U (they/it) 02:56, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Because your signature is "F4U", and it's at the top of your user page, and you use it on Discord, I suggest you make a doppelganger account for it. Yes! Thank you. :3 F4U (they/it) 01:55, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
@SkyWarrior Actually, while you're here, would it be possible to rename my account to F4U? I would prefer that over the doppelganger account. Cheers! :3 F4U (they/it) 01:58, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
I would not be able to do that, you would need to file a request at either Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple or Special:GlobalRenameRequest. Additionally, as it turns out there is, unfortunately, an AntiSpoof hit with Fau, who has nearly 300 edits to the Italian Wikipedia. As such, I am unable to override the AntiSpoof and create the doppelganger account (and if you want your username changed, then it's probably best not to create the doppelganger account now anyways). Sorry about that. SkyWarrior 02:11, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

On 10 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Racecraft, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Korean station titles

You moved a couple of station articles to capitalized Station, without explaining why these would be different from most other Korean stations. Are they in fact special that way? Dicklyon (talk) 00:55, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

@Dicklyon: Some stations have the word "Station" as part of their name, while others do not. The ones that I moved are similar to Penn Station, Newark Penn Station, Union Station, 30th Street Station, Seoul Station, etc. in that the word "Station" is part of their name. In the other articles in Category:Seoul Metropolitan Subway stations, that I did not move, the word "station" is not part of their name and serves rather as a descriptor. :3 F4U (they/it) 01:17, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
The platform signage just says "Suwon" and "Suseo" and such. The "Station" seems unnecessary. Dicklyon (talk) 02:06, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
The platform signage states Suwon to refer to the subway stop, however, "Suwon Station" refers to the building itself, which is what the article is about. :3 F4U (they/it) 02:16, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

I saw your relist at Masala chai , and noticed that you had added the note at the end of the discussion. New pages patrol invitation

Hello, Freedom4U.
  • The new pages patrol team is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • I believe that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Thanks, Hey man im josh (talk) 19:25, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

@Hey man im josh: Thanks for the message josh! I've always been intimidated by the NPP process—I have a pretty poor memory, and the sheer number of policies and guidelines I'd have to keep in mind is a bit overwhelming. That said, I do want to help out, and I'd probably never learn if I didn't try. I'm sure, just like AfC, there's always going to be more clear-cut cases that I could help out with. Really thanks for the message though, I wouldn't have considered applying without it. :3 F4U (they/it) 21:36, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
I always tell people to pick a niche, head over to WP:NPPSORT, and start there. Familiarize yourself with the process in an area you're already familiar with (for me it was sports). Hey man im josh (talk) 21:46, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
Besides, if you've already got experience at AFC then you're already ahead of where others start. I've seen you on Discord so you could also join the NPP Discord to ask any questions you might have while working through the process. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:48, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi Freedom4U. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Steps such as checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline are mandatory and will take a few minutes per article.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any required steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 13:50, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Freedom4U,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Freedom4U:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1100 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Changed redirect

In this edit you changed the redirect target of Evolution of language from Origin of language to Evolution of languages. I disagree with this change. The term "evolution of language" refers to evolutionary changes in early humans that led to the acquisition of language as a universal capability of humans, whereas the term "evolution of languages" refers to the linguistic study of how languages change over time. The subtle difference is in the use of the singular word language to refer to the universal capability, as opposed to the plural word languages to refer to the various ways that capability is expressed across the human race. Hm.. I see your point about it referring to the evolutionary development of the capability for language acquisition. I'll revert my change and add a hatnote to the origin of language page. ~ F4U (talkthey/it) 16:57, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
