U.S. Route 53 in Iowa

I see that, on Draft:1926 Iowa highway renumbering, you added U.S. Route 53 in Iowa. I have never heard of this highway. What do you know about it? From that page, all I can deduce is that it either was proposed for what became US 55, or that it was designated (unsigned?) and then redesignated as US 55. I want to learn more about former highways and former designations (and proposed designations) for current highways. Thank you for educating me. Washington Road

You nominated Washington Road for deletion, saying that it isn't notable. I don't know exactly what you meant, but the road is a major retail corridor, provides access to many other roads in the area, and is the main access to the area surrounding the Augusta National Golf Club, where the Masters Tournament is played.

What do you suggest that I do? On a side note, in this sandbox of mine, I am in process of making a "Transportation in Augusta, Georgia" page. I already had a "Washington Road" section before your nomination. I have copied the information in the road article and pasted it as a hidden comment, pending on the result of the deletion nomination. Should the road be redirected to my page and then be changed to the actual page after I finish and put the other page in the main namespace? Or is there any other course of action that you suggest? It's clear to me that you didn't read closely what I said in the PROD notice. I didn't say the road wasn't notable, if it wasn't, I would have nominated the component state highway articles as well. I said the road's name wasn't notable. You say that it's an important road and it connects to notable places, but being important doesn't mean notable and notable places don't confer their notability to the streets upon which they lie. I also said that the article doesn't demonstrate how the road is notable; typically, that's done in a history section. Street articles are slightly different than state highway articles in that the scope of what gets an article is much narrower, that's why I said it would be better covered in the state highway articles.

Anyway, read over the notability guidelines at WP:USST for some insight as to when street articles are appropriate. –Fredddie™ 20:59, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

Georgia shields

I changed the shields on the List of state routes in Georgia (U.S. state) page, but many of them didn't display. Another editor came behind me and added a bunch of "noshield" parameters to the page. Unless I go through it myself, you will have to figure out which ones. Also, what is the code for changing the shields on the List of special state routes in Georgia (U.S. state) page? I tried using "SR-<type> <year>", "GA <year>-<type>", and "SR <year>-<type>", but none worked. Thank you so much for all of your help. And for making the period shields. None of the Connector/Alternate/Truck/etc. shield types were created. Just the regular routes. It looks like Imzadi1979 added noshield to the routes over 1000. I wasn't going to make shields for those routes anyway, so it's fine. –Fredddie™ 03:48, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

@Morriswa: (talk page stalker) I added the |noshield=yes for those which are obviously broken, like the four-digit entries at the bottom of the list. None of them were calling vintage markers; instead they were trying to use current markers, but display raw wikicode instead of a redline for the missing image.

As for period special routes, the convention has been |type=SR year-banner, assuming each variation has been added already. For example, in Michigan, we can use |type=M 1948-Bus to get a period-correct business route assembly. Imzadi 1979 → 04:03, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Alberta Secondary Highway Shields

Hi Fredddie,

Thank you for doing up the sign shields from some of the old Alberta Secondary (now 500-986) highways. I was wondering what program you use? I tried creating some shields (AB 14X, AB 16X, MB 190), but they didn't turn out as well as I used a converter that makes the which background transparent (on 14X & 16X) or pixelise (MB 190). Also, technically the pre-2000 secondary highway shields aren't historically accurate as they used a slightly different shield (see Page 4; IB-100-O on http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/Content/docType252/Production/IB_ROUTE-TRAILBLAZER.PDF), do you know if it would be feasible to create a replica of the Secondary Highway shield? I know copyright restrictions might not allow it.

I see that you reverted part of my edit on the List of county roads in Hendry County, Florida. County Road Old 78 (Hendry County, Florida) is signed with the normal county highway pentagon-like shield with a like-colored rectangular shield with the word "OLD" above it. Thank you for creating it in time for Monday's Main Page turn but ... you drew the way the road was until 2008, going all the way to the Canadian border. When I first updated the KML back then, the file itself was made up of a lot of segments so at the time, I only combined them and made spot checks where the line was way off. I noticed you working on the KML (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Attached_KML/List_of_New_York_State_Historic_Markers_in_Ulster_County,_New_York) for the List of New York State Historic Markers in Ulster County, New York.

The map at the top right of the historic marker page does not work. (1) it uses a langauge other than English (German?), (2) it opens zoomed full out and centered on Kyrgyzstan instead of opening zoomed into Ulster County, NY where the markers are.

@MatthewAnderson707: I have a handful of easy things for you.

1. Are the references in the lead necessary? If the cited facts are covered and cited in the prose, you don't need to cite them in the lead. Nothing looks particularly exclamatory that would need a reference.
2. Since there are multiple sections in the history section, I would summarize them before the Background section.
3. Do you think it would be a good idea to have the year you used for the infobox junction list match up with the junction list section?

New map for US 80 in Arizona

I noticed you change the map source. The route is a tiny bit inaccurate to the 1951 routing when matched up with aerial photos of the time and data from Jeff Jensen's book. @Fredddie: Sorry for taking way too long to reply. I noticed the KML is based off directions using existing road segments. There are certain segments of US 80 that have changed very noticeably since 1951 that can't be changed with the file. Is there any chance we could copy over the data from the attached KML and make that the map? I made that on Google Earth a while ago and it traces over segments of US 80 that don't exist anymore. It worked, but when you zoomed in, there were areas that didn't correspond to current roads. It was especially noticeable in downtown Phoenix. So I tried to redraw it as closely as I could with current roads. That's all. –Fredddie™ 04:19, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

@MatthewAnderson707: without digging too deeply into it, I would say the RD should be at least twice the length it is now. I know there's not a whole lot to say about rural Arizona, but it can be done without going turn-by-turn. One device I try to use is that I try to write X miles per paragraph. I made a page for South Dakota Highway 248. Someone moved it into draft space because it was incomplete. I was fine with that, and planned to finish it over the next couple months as I figured out how to use everything better. @Xninetynine: I don't mind an article on SD 248 per se, but we don't even have an article about US 16 in South Dakota. Currently, that's because the present length of US 16 is only 540 miles and WP:USRD guidelines dissuade us from creating state-detail articles without good reason. Now, US 16 used to extend to Michigan, so really we should have articles for South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. U.S. Route 16 in Michigan exists and is a FA.

So what I'm thinking is that Draft:U.S. Route 16 in South Dakota should go forward. Anything that you wanted to say about SD 248 should go there. We can easily talk about what US 16 is presently and also talk about what it used to be. I did exactly that in U.S. Route 75 in Iowa and that article turned out great.
