Lasertag

Thanks for catching my careless typing. - Stephanie Daugherty (Triona) - Talk - Comment - 04:07, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

I agree pictures would be nice. Going to be difficult to accomplish that though, at least of indoor lasertag (which is probably more prevelant). The lighting used doesn't lend itself to easy photography, not to mention that the arenas themselves could probably be classified as "creative works" and therefore under copyright. I'll see what I can figure out - I don't have a camera currently that performs with almost no visible light. - Stephanie Daugherty (Triona) - Talk - Comment - 07:48, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Moe

That's OK. I think you can justifiably prod a character if you think he's non notable, but as there's a few fictional characters named Moe and as the article had no content I think a disambiguation page would do it. CanadianCaesar The Republic Restored 04:57, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

RfC on john o

1. You forgot to sign the RfC.

2. In order to have the RfC "certified", you will need to get another signature to it within 48 hours from the first signature. I assume that someone else also tried to reason with john o about the tags. Please get them to sign also.

I've posted a note on John oh's talk page about our deletion process. AGF, this editor may have just needed to have this VERY CLEARY spelled out to them, but this seems as more of a process issue, then of a true vandalism issue, thus my prior delisting on AIV. Due to their history, I'd probally support short term blocks if they breach WP:1RR regarding removal of xfd notices in the future now, as diruptive editing. xaosflux Talk/CVU 14:24, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Noticed your comments on this were unrelated to the reason for deletion. I do not dispute the quality of the material, only its improper fork from its legitimate place. I would be grateful for your thoughts on this matter. Haiduc 04:00, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that the article on Taylor Lea Thomas has undergone significant changes as you will see and will continue to improve with time. Villain article

I was told that I could edit pages as long as the edits made a reasonable amount of sense, and that this was a place for people to share their knowledge. Well, I told them that if people are going to edit my new section while I'm, while I'm trying to expand it then I should be able to revert it while I'm finding sources for my names so I don't see why I should have to stand for this because I enjoy, making reasonable edits to Wikipedia and I've been accused of vandalism in the past when I was just trying to add to articles and if my writing is of poor quality, then just say so and give me the benefit of the doubt regarding vandalism and trolling because just because I'm not the best writer doesn't make me a troll or a vandal and I told, I told them that I'm just trying to expand Wikipedia especially on a former featured article like villain, but then they called me a troll, and just because I don't write very well or very important things doesn't make me a troll, what happened to don't bite the newcomers and benefit of the doubt? And I received a message calling my contributions worthless and saying I'm harassing the other editors when I just thought that it wasn't right to blank out new sections just because some person or other doens't find it interesting, well not everything on Wikipedia has to be interesting, it jsut has to be factual and my list while incomplete is quite accurate, so I don't see why I'm being called a troll and a vandal and a harrasser of respected editors when I have done nothing malicious, an I don't understand why Wikipedia as such mixed messages in the guidelines such as Be Bold and now I am being ostracized as a troll, when perhaps the real problem is that my writing is poor perhaps? That's certainly possible, but I am not a troll so continue to eliminate my contributions if you feel it is necessary but do not be so rash as to assume I'm a troll, because if I'm banned from reading Wikipedia because my motives are being called into question by strangers, I'll never improve my contributions if I get banned so soon after learning to edit the pages and I don't see how the Wikipedia community has ever expanded so greatly when newcomers are treated like so, so I certainly hope that I am an unlucky and isolated case, and if not I could write a letter to the Wikipedia staff to complain about their treatment of newcomers, and dissuade people from joining the editing community and suffering similiar abuses.

Sorry for the long message but when I receive such harsh accusations as trolling and harassment from various users (not just you) I feel the need to defend myself before I receive the banhammer. 70.171.59.231 04:38, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

...for tagging the Talk page of Wenzeled, I missed it. It was not deleted "without discussion" mind, there was a short-lived AfD here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wenzeled, note the references to other and previous incarnations. The article has been deleted by four separate admins as an attack. Just zis Guy you know? 12:18, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar

I just noticed it. I try to do the homework on the AfD's, because it seems a lot of people vote in a knee jerk fashion, or have some point they're trying to make. I also try to be polite to the newcomers, even when they're being really obtuse about why their newly minted word or religion doesn't make the cut. Fan1967 04:50, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

RE: Indentation

Yes, I do that sometimes in long discussions. Although I see that I should have done it at C&H because the previous user had not signed his comment. Thanks for pointing that out for me. - Mike (talk) 02:28, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Attack on my talk page

Thanks for removing the attack on my user page from 69.112.108.167 (talk · contribs · count). Based on the fact that he signed his name here [1], he's [name deleted], who usually signs in as: Sevenlinefeatures (talk · contribs · count). He's the writer, director, producer, cinematographer, actor, editor of The Long Island Project, an extremely low-budget indy movie that is going through an AfD right now. Based on the timing, he may have been unhappy about a response I gave, thats now on the AfD's talk page. Since there's no indication the movie actually has any real release (their promotional websites are on geocities and myspace), the article's almost certainly going to be deleted. I guess he's not happy about it. Fan1967 15:37, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Warning you gave me

You just warned me not to include links to "private sites" here on Wikipedia. As you well know Feezo, there are thousands of links to private websites on Wikipedia. They belong here because they are relevant (under the heading "External sites". As long as such links exist to other sites, please do not suggest that my link should not be on that page and at the same time leave the other links to other site there.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.98.103.108 (talkcontribs)

American Flight 191, etc.

He's also doing it to various baseball sites, such as Union Association and some other leagues, and who knows what all else. Someone else had deleted it earlier, and I followed suit when he re-added it. However, I only deleted it from the Flight 191 site, as a "test", and apparently he took the bait. I would say you could go ahead and submit it. It's obviously an anonymous user and it looks like spam. These guys just keep popping up, like bad pennies. Wahkeenah 04:19, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Oops, sorry, it looks like he has not added it back a third time yet, my reversion is the latest entry. I would say if he does it again, "The third time's the charm", and then you could go ahead and submit it. Wahkeenah 04:21, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Looking at your recent contributions you are around but not particularly active, so I wanted to check if you are you still interested in receiving admin coaching? Petros471 11:48, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for my slow reply. As you're at the top of the list, I don't think it's fair to remove you completely, but you aren't really active enough at the moment to benefit from the program. So I'm going to move your request to the 'held' section on Wikipedia:Esperanza/Programs/Coaching box (not in the actual box). When you feel you are able to spend more time on Wikipedia, just add yourself to the 'Unassigned' section of the box, and you'll be assigned coaches as soon as possible. August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!

Just noticed that you passed the 2,000 edit mark! Congrats, and nice work you've done on Calvin and Hobbes for all this time! - Mike (Trick or treat) 18:57, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, glad you like the new sig! When I check my edit count sometimes I check the edit counts of some other users I came accross around here early on to see where I stand in comparison. Just happened to type yours in this time, and I saw an exact "2,000" as your count. That was the first time I'd seen such a round number, so I thought I'd just leave you a note on your talk page. Probably I'll pass 2,000 in a few weeks as well. - Mike (Trick or treat) 19:30, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Sig

I guess I can't win with my sig. Somebody asked me to change the one you liked on my editor review and now since I've chaged it I've been asked to change it again on my talk page! It's only a temporary sig, so I think I'll leave it as it is for now, as I don't find this new one to be that distracting when editing the page. I guess I'll have to lay off on the fancy sigs in the future though... -  Mike | trick or treat  00:57, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Admin coaching - October 30 - Held requests

As it's been a while since you signed up for admin coaching, I am just checking that you still wish to receive it. Leave a note on my talk page, and I'll assign you some of our free coaches. Let me know (on my talk page) if you have any questions. Cheers, Highway Grammar Enforcer! 23:22, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Admin coaching - November 1

Your coaches are HighwayCello and Natalya. Exactly what form the admin coaching takes is up to you and the coaches to decide, but a general piece of advice I give is to set up a user subpage (for example User:EXAMPLE/Admin coaching) to keep coaching discussion together. That prevents things getting split up over three talk pages, which can get confusing! Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions. Cheers, Highway Grammar Enforcer! 17:02, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

User:Feezo/Admin coaching has been created to host your coaching. Cheers, Highway Grammar Enforcer! 22:50, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Article about Wikipedia Users

Hello,

I am a freelance writer working on an article about the wide array of people who make Wikipedia their life, their passion, their pastime. Wikipedia “addicts” if you will. I'm also looking at all the "behind the scenes" goings on at Wikipedia that the average reader of the site never knows about. I intend on focusing a little on several of the unofficial Wikipedia organizations that members are a part of such as Esperenza et al.
