What is a Christian?

[edit]

You're not going to get anywhere trying to remove any sect/heresy like the Mormons, JW's, etc. from the Christianity portal. While you or I may feel that their interpretations of Scripture fall outside what we would accept as "Christian", others would not. Would you, for example, want to exclude us Quakers? Some folks would. How about Unitarian-Universalists? The original Universalists were definitely Christians, but most UUs nowadays would reject the label. Where is the line to be drawn? --Orange Mike | Talk 14:56, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Religion on Wikipedia

[edit]

Yes, I understand what you are saying about Mormons elsewhere on Wikipedia. You want to speak up for your faith here, as do many other users. However, one of the main principles of Wikipedia is neutral point of view (WP:NPOV). This means that your faith is best represented when you update articles that need improvement, when they are articles that are about your particular church, your denomination or faith tradition, and the like. Start out by reading articles on subjects that you agree with, or that reflect the history of your faith tradition, and the like. If you want to edit an article to improve it, be sure to have sources, whether online or on paper, to cite (WP:CITE).

There is a lot to learn to be good at being an editor on Wikipedia. I have been active for months, but I am still falling into pitfalls. --DThomsen8 (talk) 23:31, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
