Using your user page and talk page

Bill,

You can always send me an email with a question. However, we want you to get used to using the Wikipedia talk (discussion) pages as the primary means of communicating with the Wikipedia community.

Your username: User:Fairbury is your route to your user page and talk page. If you search for "user:Fairbury" it will take you to your user page. Your user page can be used for any information about you that you'd like to share with the community. Your user talk (discussion) page is used by others to communicate with you. I post the exact text of this email to your talk page to demonstrate this. If you wanted to ask another user a question or comment on something related to that user, you would post to their talk page. If you have a question or comment about a specific article, you would post that to the article talk page.

I would recommend attending the Wikipedia workshop in the Library on Weds as Kelly Polacek one of the Campus Ambassadors is presenting it. Any practice and advice you get at this stage of your editing career will be useful. Below are two links to more information on your userpage and talk page.

Thanks for the note. You added it to my User page, not my Talk page. I moved it, but good job for your first communications. We communicate with each other in the community via the Talk pages (also listed as Discussion pages). The User page is for the User's use only. Communicating with other users

Indeed you are doing it correctly and only need a couple of improvements. When responding to someone within a section, use : to indent your comments. Always put your comments after the comments you are responding to. If you are initiating a conversation, start with a section heading ==Section Heading== that gives a good idea as to what the conversation is about. Eureka! I put the colon and there is no new subject heading and I am going to go down to edit summary section and input four tildes.

Question on Next Tutoring Session

Good morning, Mike and Bonniee. Did I miss a learning session yesterday? I had a dental appointment at 1:30 P.M. and didn't learn about a possible tutorial until 1:00 P.M. yesterday. How can I be sure to hear of next session well in advance?Fairbury (talk) 10:06, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
