User group for Military Historians
Greetings,
"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

About the Anna Mae Hays article
Hi there, thank you for editing the Hays article however the editor before you had somehow removed all the updates I had done to the article and the only way I could see to get them back was to revert it to a previous version. Awards and decorations sections
Dear Eric,
you may know or not know that, under my IP-address (I rarely log in when on my mobile), I create and update a lot of "Awards and decorations" sections of military persons. Now, for "Joshua Wheeler" and "Robert L. Caslen" (see their edit history), a certain "Chris Troutman" threatened to block me if I entered any further "unreferenced" awards... I think the Wheeler article is well referenced, and as for Caslen, he is still on active duty, and you only have to look at his current portrait to see his awards... But the worst thing is that Troutman has deleted COMPLETELY the "Awards and decorations" section of both these persons, saying they are not necessary... If it was up to him, he would delete all such sections, so, what do you think about this? Is he right? I hope not. I hope you are able to restore these sections of the two mentioned persons without getting banned, or what other possibilities are there? What can we do?

- yeah, I realised your most of the articles are related to Medals. When I started to edit on wikipedia, it was only about JFK, and his assassination. Later I slowly started to move on to other topics, and now I mostly work in NPP/R, page moving, and WP:ESPIONAGE. So yeah, we edit in sort of different areas, even though they are kinda neighbours. See you around :) and whats with experienced editors, and not pinging?!

Finding sources
Hi. I saw, with time you added many good sources to the article James C. King. Any tips regarding finding sources for biographies from military/intelligence community? —usernamekiran(talk) 05:21, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran: If I were trying to think how I do this systematically, I usually search by name with and without middle initial, as well as with variations of rank held at various times. For searching military and government sources, in Google if you search a term and add "site:.gov" or "site:.mil" that helps filter some noise. Also, checking the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service site gives you some leads and possibly some new search terms such as commands and units. With King, since he was running some companies that came under scrutiny, checking his name with those companies added a bit more. A significant percentage of American officers go on to work on the business side of the military–industrial complex so searching them along with their new business relationships is a good path as well. That is, in a ton or words, what I usually do, I hope it wasn't too pedantic. EricSerge (talk) 22:33, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

New article
Hi. Since a very long time, I have been trying to create an article for NPIC. I have already created a little content. But I have read a lot about NPIC in last 2-3 years, and now I am unable to create content for the article. Sort of "writer's block" I guess. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
- updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Ribbon racks

He's deleting whole ribbon racks, and on the talk page, instead of first discussing the issue, he threatens everyone to get warned and blocked who puts the ribbons back! Is there anything you or someone you know can do anything about this? - Sorry I was away on vacation the last week. He is a skilled wikilawyer who will not revise his positions no matter how much anyone tries. His interpretation of the guidelines is law in his mind. The only things I can think to do is try talking to the MilHist folks or take it to the Village Pump. I do not enjoy dealing with him so I choose to avoid him. At least in broader settings you have enough eyes that he has to be a bit more civil and perhaps discuss instead of cut everyone off at the knees and then make threats to escalate the situation. Hello, EricSerge. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Backlog Banzai
In the month of September, Wikiproject Military history is running a project-wide edit-a-thon, Backlog Banzai. Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open
Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here.
