HI Eric Fishers11, I like the idea of using subsections to describe the earthquakes with anomalously high or low velocities. I've again added a little more back in in terms of detail, I feel that it's worth mentioning that it is the high speeds the are hard to recreate and that it is strong ground motion that messes up the recording of seismic waves near the nucleation zone. For the latter, I expect that we will eventually observe an earthquake on a fault that is sufficiently well-instrumented to observe the nucleation well, but who knows when that will be - it's not like we can predict the likely focus of a future earthquake. It is perhaps a surprise to find out just how much we still don't know about earthquakes, although the science does move forward all the time.

I'm aware that I tend to attract "too technical" tags for some of my writing on wikipedia and I'm always very happy to work with anyone that can help me to see the issues that I can't. Cheers, Mikenorton (talk) 20:50, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
