Invitation to join Women in Red
Thank you for creating several articles on women and their works over the past few weeks. We have become aware of your contributions thanks to research undertaken by Bobo.03 at the University of Minnesota. You might be interested in becoming a member of our WikiProject Women in Red where we are actively trying to reduce Wikipedia's content gender gap. If you would like to receive news of our activities without becoming a member, you can simply add your name to our mailing list. In any case, thank you for actively contributing to the coverage of women (currently, just 17.37% of English Wikipedia's biographies).

All caps in messages
Hello Dial911. Please avoid using all capital letters in messages to other users, as you did in your decline message to Shakilash11. Doing so carries the impression that you are shouting at the other person and is basically never appropriate in the collegial atmosphere of Wikipedia, especially against newcomers, for fear of biting them. If you want to emphasize something, using bold or italics is more advisable. Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 06:58, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
- In this case "do not submit again" is rather unnecessary anyway, given that it was only submitted once. Things like "never again" should be saved for cases where the creator continually resubmits something that is not acceptable. Primefac (talk) 16:07, 9 January 2018 (UTC) (talk page stalker)

The Reference Issue
Dear Dial911,
You have left a review note on my article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Code_for_Pakistan) and I would like to say that I didn't find that note to be very helpful in identifying the issue and finding a solution for that. Therefore, I would need your help in identifying the specific problem with referencing. I have provided 27 references and out of those 24 are independent media resources including national newspapers. Why is that reference not acceptable whereas a sister organization https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_for_America has a similar outline and content went through Wikipedia review? Can you please help in elaborating the issue and how can fix it?
Thanks, Huma Huma.hamid (talk) 22:38, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

I moved your AFC decline to here (I was helping the editor out with the mechanics). Good comments, BTW. --NeilN talk to me 05:33, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

hey can you suggest things i can do to make the article better (zainab raazi) thanks Utrebsto (talk) 11:38, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Utrebsto Your article does not have any reference. Wikipedia articles must be supplemented by independent reliable secondary sources that have significant coverage of the subject. Dial911 (talk) 15:14, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
Why not accepted as the English language version of the German puplished article? see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josef_Schmalz_(Musiker)
See also discussion under https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:L%C3%B6schkandidaten/8._Mai_2017#Josef_Schmalz_(Musiker)_(LAE)
He has his own published CDs and LPs.

- As far as English Wikipedia is concerned, I would need at least one independent source that has significant coverage of the subject. Dial911 (talk) 17:27, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- The Deutsche Nationalbibliothek shows him here:
- The CD is showed here: http://www.heimathaus-billed.de/mediengalerie/musik/168-josef-schmalz and cover + booklet under
- The LPs were published via Metronome in Hamburg, a noted publisher, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Music_Sweden
- Two german public TV live performances may you find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHLmyeULqVI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7jd-oAyZmI

- plus https://www.discogs.com/de/artist/1489566-Original-Donauschwaben-Musikanten
- German WP has cleared relevance.

- The German version was still a draft when I went through your submision on English Wikipedia. That is why I told you to wait until German Wiki accepts him. I can see that German version has been accepted. However, it does not guarantee that your English submission would be accepted too. I said, I would require independent and reliable sources and Youtube and Wikipedia can’t be the sources. You can always resubmit the draft after working on it so that it meets our standards. Thanks! Dial911 (talk) 18:23, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- THE GERMAN VERSION IS NO DRAFT SINCE 7. Mai 2017 um 17:22 Uhr There are plenty gesichtete / proofed versions!!
- Things from the past cannot be proofed via internet-links etc. You have the evidence in the CD booklet and in the LPs covers in printversion! You have proof via Deutsche Nationalbibliothek and Discogs. When this is not enough you can delete half of EN Wiki with data/text before 1980!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:EA:23CB:E400:9D1F:350B:CCB3:C461 (talk) 13:12, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

20:54:58, 17 January 2018 review of submission by Jkay11
Hello - I was just curious why this was denied. Totally understand your process but I have a strong amount of press but assumed that HuffPost and Business Insider were the most reliable. Can you advise me on what changes to make to be approved.
Thank you so much - I really appreciate it. Jkay11 (talk) 20:54, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out. Though you can write an article about yourself yet it is generally not appreciated by the community. If you are WP:NOTABLE someone will write an article about you. However, the reason for your article refusal was lack of reliable and independent sources that significantly covered you. Mind you, interviews are not notable as per our policy. Therefore, Business Insider is a null and void. I would recommend you go through WP:COI and understand more about how things work here. Also, if you submit your draft without working for its improvement, it will be rejected again. See WP:TOOSOON for details. Thanks! Dial911 (talk) 21:09, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Notability criteria #11 for musicians: "Has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or TV network." ABC News is a national TV network, and Moody Radio is a national radio network. Are the ABC and Moody Radio references I provided unreliable? I thought they were independent and reliable.
Also, notability criteria #10 for musicians: "Has performed music for a work of media that is notable." IMDb and the Huffington Post include this, do these sites not count as reliable references? Please let me know, I'm open to make any changes necessary. Edward.sun94 (talk) 01:25, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Edward.sun94 Thanks for reaching out. HuffPost reference is a blog post. IMDb is not considered reliable secondary source. And after removing Facebook and YouTube links there is nothing substantial left in the article. Also, after removing those links from the article, how are you going to supplement respective content? Is there any other source that would verify the content? I can only rely on the video by ABC. However, I need at least one more independent, reliable and secondary source that discuss the subject in detail. Hope this helps! Dial911 (talk) 03:03, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
05:13:19, 18 January 2018 review of submission by Seligne
Dial, Thank you for reviewing this submission. I would like a second opinion. 1. I could make changes to the lede, but reviewing it, I fail to see what is fictional, sensational, or untrue and not backed up by the references that follow. Is not the lede supposed to encourage the reader to read further? Frankly, the story itself is unbelievable and there is recounting the story otherwise. 2. As far as merging it the the "Death of Wichian...", that would be akin to merging "John F. Kennedy" into a "Death of Lee Harvey Oswald" article. You simply mistake the cart for the horse. 3. As a "experienced editor" I have no doubt that this article takes precedence over the "Death" article. The unfortunate death was an "effect". The "Vorayuth" article deals with the "cause". 4. Is there an appeals process for new article submissions? If so I want to invoke it.
Best, Seligne (talk) 05:13, 18 January 2018 (UTC) Seligne (talk) 05:13, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Seligne You can discuss this issue here. Also, you might want to re-submit the draft. Let other editors consider it too. Thanks! Dial911 (talk) 05:30, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
The Original Barnstar | |
Got it thanks, i think you're certainly right... Some of his cases does not have references so i gotta remove them. Also please help me improve the article's formatting and other stuff. I'd really appreciate Katherinehurley (talk) 05:15, 18 January 2018 (UTC) |
Katherine Hurley awards barnstars when Dial rejects articles? Is that some form of Wikipedia bodycount? Did you read the submission? What "cases" are wanting references? Frankly, I thought the 25 citations were a bit over the top. And could you please be more specific about "formatting and other stuff". I think Dials decision stinks. I have asked for a second opinion. I am a new article reviewer and I find this process capricious at best. Seligne (talk) 14:27, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Katherinehurley Will definitely help you format it as soon as I can. Thanks! Dial911 (talk) 15:24, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
Articles Denied twice?
Articles Denied twice? | |
Hi Dail911, To be fair, most news stories that are generated these days stem from press releases. So please stop denying my article. Tech Crunch, Digital Journal, and Patch Media are not blogs. Behold the references on pages like Kim Kardashian...90% of those stem from press releases no matter the publication source. In order to move Wikipedia into 2018, we must relax some of these overly strict, 1962 policies. We're essentially blocking out awesome people and companies who can't AFFORD to place stories in NY TIMES, Vogue, Forbes and etc. (yes, they have to pay). Are we to merely forget about their stories? HappyGoLucky18 (talk) 17:24, 18 January 2018 (UTC) |
- HappyGoLucky18 Patch media says any registered member can contribute to the post. Therefore, it is not reliable and independent source. Also, your third and last reference is a press release. I can distribute and publish a press release about my garage. Would you consider it notable and vouch for its Wikipedia entry? Hope you understand. Thanks! Dial911 (talk) 17:51, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
Media companies like Patch Media and Forbes etc. allows registered members to contribute to articles. Very similar to Wikipedia’s model. That doesn’t make the source less notable or reliable. Also, Disney, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google all started in garages (according to INC). So I would further research to vouch for the notability of your garage before deleting your article. Seems as if there’s some extreme policing going on here. I’ll try my best to make my articles better.
- Who deleted your article? It has only been refused to be published on Wikipedia as of now. That should not make you lose your calm. Please work on it and it should be good to go. We can argue until infinity runs out, but that is not going to yield any result. Thanks! Dial911 (talk) 19:23, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Karandaaz Pakistan is a leading institution in Pakistan promoting SMEs and Financial Inclusion. It is funded by DFID and BMGF, both very credible donors. We are trying our best to create a culture of entrepreneurship and include maximum people from Pakistan in formal financial system. Karandaaz also promotes innovation in financial space and a front runner financial development agency in Pakistan. We request you to kindly reconsider this and include Karandaaz Pakistan page on wikipedia as a lot of people from the industry and general public seek information about Karandaaz online. Let us know specifically on what else can be done to qualify this entry.

- Hey! It is not possible for me to verify the contents of your article. You should provide inline citations so that I can know what information is derived from which source. Also, you might wanna disclose any relation with the subject, if you have one. See WP: COI and WP:PAID. Execute these changes and re-submit. I shall, or any other reviewer will go over it. Thanks!
