Population d'Isiro, DRC

[edit]

Salut Vberger/Bel Adone,

Hye
In fact, I don't remember. Probably on the University website, I will check it right now (they have a new website, I don't know if they changed the content).
But between 150,000 and 200,000, it is not so bad for DRC. Nobody has exact datas indeed for DRC. For Mbuji-Mayi for example, the stats are between 800,000 and 3,500,000 according to the sources (see fr:Discuter:Mbuji-Mayi)
Vberger 07:25, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's it : "more than 200,000 inhabitants" [1]
Vberger 07:27, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Wow, a university in Isiro... I hope they've paved some roads.

Hi, the figure for Isiro was from Emporis.com i think. However it is likely innacurate and out of date. I will remove it as the U.N figure is obviously more reliable Willy turner 18:53, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I responded to your question at the Village Pump. It's always good to see another editor working on Africa topics. You might be interested in checking out Wikipedia:Africa-related regional notice board. Cheers, BanyanTree 03:44, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I'm checking it out now. So is that Pjeter Dungu info for real or shall I research it? --Dblomgren 04:00, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just did a Google search for "Dungu Albania" and that name popped up. Or rather "Pjetër Dungu". There's probably enough info for a stub on that first page of results if you're eager. - BanyanTree 04:12, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the disambiguation note on the Dungu page! And Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you as well. (It seemed silly to look at all the info on the Albanian guy and not go ahead and write the stub myself.) - BanyanTree 06:58, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Banyan, I hope you're still tuned into my page. I think it's time to rename Dungu "Dungu, Democratic Republic of the Congo". I understand I should be able to click a move link to the left, but I don't see one. Help! --Dblomgren 04:36, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There should be a move tab at the top of the screen. Cheers, BanyanTree 15:33, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You might also want to move the disambiguation page on top of Dungu, which you should be able to do if there is only one edit. - BanyanTree 21:25, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It had completely slipped my mind that a page deletion was required for my suggestion above. I've gone ahead and done this, and also removed your item from WP:RM. If you have any other uncontroversial admin-ish things that need doing in the future, feel free to drop me a line and I'll get to them when I next log in. Cheers, BanyanTree 00:17, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bangala Swadesh list

[edit]

Hi Dblomgren,

The original french page for Bangala Swadesh list is fr:Liste Swadesh du bangala. Feel free to complete it with the missing words, and to fix any errors. Thanks for your help. Croquant 09:44, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The english page has been moved recently to Wiktionary ([3]). So, if you want to modify the Swadesh list, please go to the Wiktionary version instead of my archive. I don't mind you modify the archive, but it's better to make changes in the encyclopedic page. Thanks. Croquant 11:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Neal,

Seems you should put a userbox saying "interested in parapsychology" on your user page. Anyhow, since you've voted, how about prefacing your vote with a big bold "Oxford" to make it easier to count?

Map and verbs

[edit]

Hi,

  1. For the maps, what you need to do is find an existing map of the area the Uele River goes through (preferably under a free license), paste it into some drawing software (I used Paint for the Guernsey and Jersey maps), then rub out any irrelevant detail on the map and go over with a pencil or paintbrush tool any lines that are too thin or faint.
  2. As for the verbs, I'm no linguist but a problem you might encounter is where you would need to draw the line on which verbs are more or less common. If there is some official criteria (like a verb must be used at least x times in the last y years to be considered 'common') then you might want to mention that if you go ahead, but personally, I don't really know the subject that well. RE: Would you like to block 216.101.58.15?

[edit]

You wrote on my talk page:

I see on 216.101.58.15's talk page you have already blocked him. He has just vandalized Black light (and already undone by someone else). I see his user talk page is full of warnings, so I thought rather than warn him again, you could handle it in an appropriate manner, possibly by blocking again, which I can't do since I'm not an admin. Thanks.

Thanks for the message, and for keeping an eye out for vandalism.

Actually, I'm not an admin, either...just fairly active in trying to combat vandalism and spam around here. I was the last person to have warned 216.101.58.15 for vandalism, but I didn't actually block them.

I warned the user again, since that's in keeping with the WP policy for IP address accounts, which are potentially shared among users. Since it could be a different user with the IP address, and since it had been a while since the last vandal edit, we don't block the user right away. I usually give them a "test3" (now "uw-vandalism3") warning if the account previously had significant vandal activity. If they vandalize again soon, they'll get a final (test4/uw-vandalism4) warning, and then the next step is a block.

BTW, you don't have to be an admin to request a block. Just go to WP:AIV and add them to the list (instructions are on that page). Several admins are typically watching that list of problem users, and will block a user if that's appropriate.

Thanks again for the help. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Hawthorne Effect

[edit]

Hi, are you still working on that Hawthorne effect article? I was about to complain on the talk page how that there's way too much original research (even if it is referenced to an external article by a respected source) talking about what the effect may or may not be caused by -- the effect itself is what the article is about; only Mayo's and a few other important figures' discussion of possible mechanisms, applications, etc should be included. That is, the effect itself as a "defined" phenomena (including the fact that the definitions vary pretty widely), is at least a scholarly reference to the idiomatic 'observer effect' in social sciences. But WHY it happened, who knows, really? Imho, that is. I'm gonna leave this one alone tho, unless you msg my talk page that you've lost interest in it for some reason, then I'll take it up. But I don't want it. :) Eaglizard 01:44, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Greg,
Thanks for the kick in the butt about the Hawthorne Effect. My round tuit should arrive this weekend, so I'll get started. I do plan to include what other people think of it (to be called "Interpretation, criticism, and conclusions" - see the outline on the talk page), since I think it's fair to include published controversy. I look forward to your feedback and surgically precise editing. DBlomgren 20:36, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Portuguese phonology

[edit]

Hello Greg,

about your doubt about the pronounciation difference of ô and ó. Ô corresponds more or less to the o in the english "sole" and to the french word "eau" (IPA:o). Ó corresponds to the o in english "not" and french "sort" (IPA: ɔ). Congratulations for your effort. If need any thing more, please contact me at my page in the portuguese wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Japf (talkcontribs) 09:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Maps

[edit]

HI thanks. I've been trying to add them to most African countries, most of the maps were created by me too. I don't think I've done all of DRC yet. Using them is simple. It would be great if you could copy them and adjust the details on other articles and help develop the articles by adding them. You can enter the coordinates in the infobox and the appropriate province or district easily ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:25, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Paul Hunt (gymnast)

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Paul Hunt (gymnast) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ShootinPutin109 04:48, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
