Conflict of interest editing

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Davidrmoran. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Sherwood F. Moran, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 21:06, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. No I'm not a bot, your website says you are Sherwood Moran's grandson, that in itself is a conflict as the message above says - you are writing about your own family. So you should be aware of the guidelines and stick to them, which is why I posted them above. I'm still not 100% convinced that your blog (it is hosted by wordpress, it is by definition a blog) meets the criteria of being a reliable, independent source - it would be better by far to use any published sources that are available - if you are aware of these and could point them out on the article's talk page that would be great. Melcous (talk) 21:23, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also, when you leave a message on a talk page like you did on mine, please "sign" your posts by including four tildes (this symbol ~) at the end, thanks. Melcous (talk) 21:35, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, so the question is, where does the information on your website come from? If it is found in other published sources then those are what should be cited, even if that seems tedious to you after you have collated them to use on your website. If your website itself is the original source, then the content would appear to be original research which is not accepted on wikipedia unfortunately. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is - this is an encyclopedia, not a family history website, and so the criteria is set based around that. Cheers, Melcous (talk) 21:57, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think I forgot to add and the horse you rode in on
sorry Davidrmoran (talk) 23:46, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should delete the page altogether on this important historical figure. Clearly it should never have been created in the first place! It was based on original research, haha, since there is almost nothing other on this person. So much for assumption of good faith. I charge that you did not bother to actually check out what I had done, which was simply updating a dead link on an extant page, but assumed from the wordpress flag that something evil and familial and CoI was going on. That's rich. wikip is full of original research, at least, if not especially, in references within bios --- just search for 'personal exchange' and such. Of course you could comb through them all and challenge each one. "Wait, are you family? How dare you."

If you would like to start over, on the other hand, would you please change the dead link to the latest link containing a more accurate version of the family bio. You have all of the information you need to do that. Or you could just reinstate all of my honest, good-faith, historically accurate edits. Readers of this encyclopedia would appreciate it, as a matter of common sense. But the page should be deleted, per your 'not a family tree' lights. Who really knows whether he had a sister named Margarita? Other than I and my sibs.

To Joy

[edit]

Well, the name of the ode is To Joy, not Ode: To Joy. I suggest you discuss the changes on the article talk and find consensus. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:57, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why not help me in this cause? You obviously know and also know what to do. So why not advance the matter? Thanks. Davidrmoran (talk) 19:58, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
