Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Datamarkinc, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as User:Datamarkinc/sandbox, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

New to Wikipedia? Please consider taking a look at the our introductory tutorial or reviewing the contributing to Wikipedia page to learn the basics about editing. Below are a few other good pages about article creation.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions ask me on my talk page or you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! Meters (talk) 21:19, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Meters, we did want to create a Wikipedia page for our company, similar to our competitors such as Genpact , Conduent and DXC Technology . We were planning to rewrite our website content to make it academic and factual, I did not know having it in the sandbox while working on it would get it flagged it seems. What would be the best way for us to have a page on Wikipedia while being compliant with all rules regarding posting? I have requested a username change that would identify myself, Adam Wright. Thank you.

Businesses do not "have pages" on Wikipedia. Wikipedia has articles about businesses, typically written by independent editors that take note of the business in independent reliable sources with significant coverage and choose on their own to write about it. Those articles summarize those sources, showing how the business meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable business. Not every business merits an article, it depends on the sources. That competitors merit articles does not mean your business does, please see other stuff exists.
If you truly feel that you can set aside everything you know about your business and all materials put out by the business(including press releases and announcements of routine activities) and only write based on independent reliable sources, you may create and submit a draft using Articles for Creation. Be advised, it's probably harder than you think. 331dot (talk) 21:59, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 33ldot, if we wanted someone to write the article for us, would we add "DATAMARK, Inc." to Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Business_and_economics/Companies/A-E#D along with 3rd party sources?

You can make a request there. However, the backlog is severe and your request might not be seen, let alone acted on, for some time. Typically, an article is written by independent editors who take note of a topic in independent reliable sources that give it significant coverage- trying to force the issue does not often work. Also be aware that a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable. Have you been asked by your employer to be here? 331dot (talk) 17:57, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes 33ldot, we feel it would benefit our online presence. There are also Wikipedia articles that mention us so we would like to have them link to our page/article.

Any article about your company would not belong to the company, and the company could not exclusively dictate what appears there. That could theoretically include negative information about the company, such as news stories about dissatisfied customers or product issues. As an extreme example see Criticism of Walmart which is so extensive as to have its own article. Any article about your company could even be vandalized by disgruntled customers and while the vandalism would be removed- people could still see it. See WP:PROUD for more information about the reasons to not want an article(and you may want to show it to your superiors).
To be frank- and I apologize- Wikipedia is not concerned with any company's "online presence" or search results for them. We're only interested in summarizing independent reliable sources. As I said, you are welcome to make a request at requested articles, but it may not be acted on for some time. If you truly feel that you can set aside everything you know about the company and all materials that the company puts out(this includes press releases or the reporting of routine business activities like the raising of capital, the release of a product, or the opening of locations) and write an article that summarizes what others choose on their own to say about the company, showing how it meets the criteria at WP:ORG, you may visit Articles for Creation to attempt to create and submit a draft. To be frank again, I've seen very few people succeed at that, even though it is technically possible. 331dot (talk) 15:02, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Datamarkinc/sandbox, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.
