Information icon Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Pelé (footballer born 1978), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kevin Ellison (footballer), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page EFL. Daniel Powell

[edit]

Hi,

Please read the content of the article and citations, which state Powell's contract with Milton Keynes Dons expires at the end of 2016–17, which is after 30 June 2017. His Northampton Town contract is effective from 1 July 2017. The changes and citation that you added to the article were misleading. We don't update a player's current club until the contract with the club begins, which is WP:FOOTY consensus. Thank you. LTFC 95 (talk) 13:42, 9 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sources, re Rowan Vine

[edit]

Hello. Was wondering what source you had for Mr Vine's appearances for Hartley Wintney. I can't find anything anywhere. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 12:00, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The information I got from the club's Twitter account, specifically images of the teamsheets for each match and their live coverage on Twitter. In fairness I don't know if Twitter is a 'reliable source' as far as Wikipedia goes, though. If it can't or shouldn't be used, fair enough. Montgomery15 (talk) 12:50, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It can be used, if it's official, and so long as it's explicitly cited. Although going through months worth of tweets and counting appearances from names on teamsheet images or in text commentary isn't entirely reliable because of human error, and would be a total pain to cite individually.
The problem I have with that is, unless the relevant tweets have been deleted since, Hartley Wintney FC's twitter doesn't seem to show teamsheet images, and Vine's name isn't mentioned in the live coverage for every game he played in.
What started this was, someone updated the stats table last night, and their update was undone as unsourced. And the person complained, not unreasonably, that it seemed unfair for their update to be removed while the equally unsourced figures in the infobox were allowed to stay. So I started checking, and the infobox figures are fine except for Hartley Wintney and the current Gosport spell, which I presumed was a typo.
Mr Vine made his Hartley Wintney debut in the FA Trophy on 28 October, and he went back to Gosport at the beginning of March. Between those dates, they played 18 league matches, according to their fixture page, which means that for his stats really to be 18/9, he must have played in all 18. But he didn't: see e.g. Egham Town 4 February... Struway2 (talk) 13:30, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clearing that up; the figures from his return to Gosport weren't a typo, unfortunately for me, but me being rather slapdash and not citing the source...which I'll rectify now. Montgomery15 (talk) 15:25, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Greaves ans Spencer

[edit]

Hi Montgomery15, you had undone this edit in the article David Greaves. User:Rafael Zink and I discus the topic in the dewiki with the result, that the left person is John Spencer and the right David Greaves (here). Why do you think, that Greaves is left? Greetings, --Snookerado (talk) 16:05, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Snookerado, I think it's clear when you look at other images of Spencer throughout his life, especially from the '70s and '80s while he was playing - as the image I've linked here shows (https://c8.alamy.com/comp/DRAHHD/john-spencer-at-the-embassy-world-snooker-tournament-crucible-theatre-DRAHHD.jpg). The facial features of the man on the right of your shot are identical to those of the John Spencer in the photo I've linked to. So, unless he was a great magician and managed to be two people at once...the other man must be David Greaves. Thanks, Montgomery15 (talk) 16:22, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Montgomery15, thank you for the link, now it is clear. Rafael is a filemover on commons, so I asked him if he could swap the files. Greetings, --Snookerado (talk) 17:05, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oliver Brown image

[edit]

Hi. You have previously reverted the image on Oliver Brown (snooker player). You state the fact that the fact Brown is wearing a onesie is "irrelevant" or "inappropriate". This is a free image of Brown. There is no other available photographs of Brown on Wikipedia, so surely it makes sense for any image to be shown, regardless of what Brown wears. If Brown wants to wear his onesie in public places, then that is up to him. Of course it would be more logical to have one of him playing snooker but that is not available. Your argument could be applied to a number of pages, such as Elton John - his image is of him attending some event, not singing on a stage despite the fact he is a singer. I don't see the point that since Brown is a snooker player, his image must be of him playing snooker. Goodreg3 (talk) 13:25, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Hugh Abernethy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't meet notability for sports. No major wins, international wins, and article references that they were never higher than 80th in the world

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
