Hi. When you recently edited Moestopo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Indo (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Re: Xinye Village
Since you've been so helpful, I wonder if you wouldn't mind sharing some more of your DYK knowledge with a neophyte like myself. In reviewing Xinye Village, I discovered that the user created it at 09:17, 29 January 2012,[1] but waited until 04:56, 4 February 2012[2] to nominate it. They also added it to the January 30 queue instead of January 29.[3] Is this an instant fail, or do we give leeway to users like this? There could be something off with his preferences, maybe he doesn't recognize UTC time, etc. So, what would you recommend? Fail due to nomination after five day period had ended, or do the review? Viriditas (talk) 01:16, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- Per Supplementary rule D9, which says "'Five days old' limit should be strictly enforced only if there is a large backlog of hooks. Otherwise nominated article may still be approved if it was created or expanded after the oldest date listed in Template talk:Did you know#Older nominations.", you are allowed to do so. Since this is an underrepresented area and the editor is fairly new to DYK, I would probably leave a notice, but accept the nomination. For a more experienced editor such as myself, Drblofeld, or the like, I'd be more strict. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:22, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, I remember reading that now. For the record, my calculation was 6 days, 19 hours, 39 minutes. I will be happy to finish up the review tonight. Viriditas (talk) 01:26, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- That's odd, I count 5 days 19 hours and so on. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:32, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- You're correct, 5 days, not 6. Viriditas (talk) 01:42, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Crisco. How are you? I'm back from nowhere, but I did it because Alarbus insisted a lot, and he has been a good friend to me and I owed him that. But I came here to tell you that I'm really grateful to see that you cared. Thank you very much. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 02:34, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

MV Delta Mariner DYK
I wish I would have seen this nom before it posted on the front page. "rocket parts" sounds like it was written by a 3rd grader and gives the wrong impression for the size of the cargo this vessel carries. The article reads "rocket components" which is much more appropriate. The ship exists to carry very large things so language is important here. Is there anyway this can be updated?--RadioFan (talk) 08:53, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Was it shorter? I added so much to the tables and added pictures lol. Aaron • You Da One 14:56, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
- That was a very quick reply. For DYK purposes we only count the "readable prose", which means the stuff outside of lists, tables, headers, references, and the like. The only "readable prose" in the list is the lede, which is indeed shorter now. Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:58, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

image question
Hi,
I hope I'm not anything wrong on the SignPost image selection. Some of my considerations in choosing are (trying) to give featured articles and lists proportional space (if there's any good images there), plus aiming for diversity - culturally and geographically. Those are some reasons why I selected the Italian motorcyclist, and the Murugan besides being a great image. Seems like the one on Claudio Monteverdi had to be selected as the only selection to round out featured articles. So Mona Lisa was kind of ruled out as too many white head shots in my mind. What do you think? MathewTownsend (talk) 01:04, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- On another subject, I would review Chinese Indonesians as its a fascinating article. What holds me back is not being able really to verify the cited information. MathewTownsend (talk) 01:07, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Regarding the Signpost, the images are fine. I also decided that the Mona Lisa would be a bad idea, although for different reasons (because two images I nominated were already shown, one of which was a piece of fine art). I think the images this week have a good balance. For the Chinese Indonesians article, there seems to have been a lot of editing going on while the article was up for nomination. Admittedly this is my first non-self nomination, but considering Arsonal essentially stopped editing after the article failed FAC I figured his monument should have some recognition. I'll have to give the new edits a look through, especially since several introduced content that was against policy. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:13, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Re Chinese Indonesians: If the sources are solid I can look through the prose. It looked very good when I read through it, though some of the sources might be out of date or for other reasons not good.
- Re SignPost: I also considered your nominations - not to overweight with yours. Don't want criticism on that score! (Or any score!) Also the balance of the page, image wise - so that there isn't a big clash! MathewTownsend (talk) 01:29, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm... for reliability I can vouch for pretty much everything. Can't say too much about his offline sources for how up to date they are, although the ones I own are a bit old (1980s and 2008). Mind you, they are mostly used for the history section. Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:51, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Duplication detection and compatibly licensed sources
Hi, I saw your comment at DYK/Brookesia micra and was wondering whether you could point me to a place where the extent of required paraphrasing is discussed for compatibly licensed sources (like CC BY in this case), be it in relation to DYK or in general. Thanks! -- Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) 00:06, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- It's not a legal requirement, but per DYK rule 2b)
"DYK articles may freely reuse public domain text per Wikipedia's usual policy, with proper attribution. However, because the emphasis at DYK is on new and original content, text copied verbatim from public domain sources, or which closely paraphrases such sources, is excluded both from the 1,500 minimum character count for new articles, and from the x5 expansion count for x5 expanded articles."
- As the article is fairly short, I was concerned that the sentences copied, once subtracted, would bring this below the minimum. Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:47, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

- A couple of them are fairly nice but in need of restoration. However, they are rather grainy, perhaps a result of being low quality saves. Higher quality saves may be more efficient. The image of Hiram Wesley Evans (admittedly not a person I'd want to emulate, but somehow we have a good picture of him) shows that older pictures can still be of fairly high quality. - Fairly well so... but it takes a while. Geometry guy seems active at FAC as well, although he doesn't have a list of his featured / good articles. It doesn't hurt to ask, although it would be better to use the interview next week if he agrees. Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:28, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, didn't mean for this week but in the future. Just was wondering who to ask, the guy Sko who is the managing editor? And would it go on this page or another? - If the interview is about featured content, it's entirely within our purview and thus we can do it if we see fit. I'd like to do 3 more interviews about Systemic Bias, but I haven't had the time to look for good interviewees. - Give me some ideas on how to make a GA interview about content. (I was thinking about asking about process - why GA seems to work so well with so little oversight). I suppose I could ask about variety of article content - relatively loose but straight forward rules, variety of individual reviewer approach to assessing content? (But that sounds more like process, right?)
- On another note, what do you think about the length of the FA write ups in the Signpost. In my mind I've set a limit of 6 lines. Do you think that's too long? (The thing is, the more text there is the more images/pictures will fit into an issue - and from my point of view, the pics are the best part!) MathewTownsend (talk) 23:23, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Don't know if you saw my last post to you on my page[4] but I just had a brilliant idea. How about I interview YOU! You're a fantastic content contributor, as you seem to do everything at once, GAN, DYK, FA, the Signpost. How do you manage to do so much? (Inquiring minds want to know!)
