IP 71

The IP that still hasn’t gotten over the discussion on the Star Trek Discovery talkpage left a message on my talkpage barging in on a completely different discussion. I reverted the message, but should I be concerned they’ve turned their account to basically antagonize me?--CreecregofLife (talk) 07:05, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

@CreecregofLife: I've left them a message voicing my concerns along that line and urging them to get back to constructive editing. —C.Fred (talk) 14:28, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I’m in a content dispute at Talk:2022 in animation that grew increasingly uncomfortable with personal attacks that grew more and more direct, as if to force me to submit defeat. I don’t know where to go with this.--CreecregofLife (talk) 14:39, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
@CreecregofLife: As the expression goes, take the high road. I saw that things had heated back up at 2022 in animation while trying to find diffs from the IP; I have warned one of the other editors there that their comments are out of line and are personal attacks. —C.Fred (talk) 14:46, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate it. Thank you.--CreecregofLife (talk) 14:50, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
Update - They didn't stop. They're clearly trying to manipulate--CreecregofLife (talk) 16:29, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

I suggest you take a good look at our friend CreecregofLife here.

It's not so much a question of getting over anything as watching repeated instances of bad behavior on his part. I'm not so entirely wrapped up in Wikipedia as it is but what I find and continue to find fascinating is that way this person tries to turn every instance of their own bad behavior as the fault of everyone else.

Between edit warring, incivility and the constant questioning of anyone attempting to reign in this kind of abuse (even senior mods) it’s gotten to the point of being downright laughable. Considering some of the words have been directed at me and others I have been mild in my response. In the case of watching another "fight" I found his response more than a little ironic.

Apparently though it gave me CreecregofLife significant butthurt. My point is simply it appears it isn’t everyone else who is the problem but CreecregofLife who has far too much time on his hands and who doesn’t appear to understand the sense of community and cooperation that is supposed to be a part of Wikipedia unless I’m missing something and the underlying thrust of the site as a resource and community has changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.233.44 (talk) 22:08, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

All you did was prove I'm not the problem CreecregofLife (talk) 01:30, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
Yes, yes, yes... it's always the other person. Everyone else is the problem. Honestly I don't have to do anything, you'll ultimately do yourself in. 71.190.233.44 (talk) 11:47, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball

Hi C.Fred. Do you think some short-term WP:PP might be a good idea for Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball given stuff like this appearing online? I'm asking you since you're the last admin to revert on the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:44, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Yep, and noted in the log. —C.Fred (talk) 14:06, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. Wasn't sure. Personally, it's not very helpful when writers like that person seem to make vandalism seem like a "fun2 thing to do. It's too bad the WMF doesn't directly respond to articles like that to explain why they often lead to problems. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:12, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Now they're calling my edits "political pandering", and continue to make edits they don't have consensus for. I placed a warning, they kept going. It's been 4 days and they're still trying to paint me as the one in the wrong even after everything they've said to me. They're well past civility and participation in discussion, but I don't know what to do next--CreecregofLife (talk) 03:31, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

IDHT/BATTLEGROUND report

Hi- hoping to get some help regarding WP:ANI#CreecregofLife - continued disputes/edit warring. At this point, the discussion is going nowhere- with editors repeatedly trying to explain how the reported user is constantly battling other users (WP:IDHT/WP:BATTLEGROUND) with the reported user continuing to entirely deny this- with each response of theirs showing the exact problem being discussed and is simultaneously denying and continuing their behavior.

As a note, I've reached out to you due to your recent post on the user's talk page here. Apologies if this is the exact opposite of what should be done if that's due to your previous interaction with the user in question. Thanks. Magitroopa (talk) 18:28, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Revision 1079445682

The purpose of this revision was to clean up misleading and false information in multiple paragraphs. Thank you for your vigilance but it has been sustained. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.181.1.170 (talk) 21:21, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

What did you just do to that message on my talk page!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.152.18.158 (talk) 15:00, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

First, without the indent, it ran into mine. Second, you didn't sign your message, so the text needed attributed. —C.Fred (talk) 15:01, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Moving Page

Sorry I moved the page the wrong way. I don't really understand the proper way so I will put it on that requested moves page. Thanks 2A00:23C8:4384:FB00:389D:B663:C08:CC17 (talk) 17:25, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

OK so I have a problem. That requested moves page is semi-protected and so I can't request the 'technical move' on there. This is a particularly uncontroversial move as, for example, Busse is a page in relation to the surname and also covers off multiple other vaguely related things. In this case, Buss (surname) should logically just move to Buss because Buss only has two other disambiguation links which are for Herring buss and Buss Island, which are different enough in name and are dealt with using a hatnote. Could you please move the page or ask on the Wikipedia:Requested moves as IP users aren't allowed to edit the semi-protected page. I could make an account but I always edit using an IP address because it gives IP address editors a better name. Thanks 2A00:23C8:4384:FB00:389D:B663:C08:CC17 (talk) 17:35, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
It looks like the surname is a reasonable primary meaning. I've gone ahead and moved the page. I'll revert if it's contested and bring the issue for discussion. —C.Fred (talk) 17:44, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. I'd be amazed if it's contested, and if it is I don't really care enough to try to argue the case. It just seemed like a little anomaly that could be fixed, and ended up being more complicated than I realised. Thanks again! 2A00:23C8:4384:FB00:389D:B663:C08:CC17 (talk) 17:48, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Why did you remove my edits

I had removed some offensive language from the Mormon article, why would you add it back.Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 01:13, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

@Greenhighwayconstruction: Not only is it not offensive, but it is false. —C.Fred (talk) 01:14, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Wikipedia is meant to be neutral and that is why Wikipedia should not consider Mormons Christians both the Atlantic, Luther Collage and many other news organizations, and scholars all agree that mormons are not Christians. In addition, who gave you the right to judge what is and isn't offensive.[1] [2] [3] [4] Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 16:35, 27 March 2022 (UTC) Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 16:35, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
@Greenhighwayconstruction: Many other sources do consider Mormons Christian. The issue has been discussed at the relevant articles' talk pages, and consensus emerged that they are Christian. —C.Fred (talk) 16:51, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Further, Wikipedia is not censored. We do not remove content because it may be offensive to groups. We have pictures of Muhammad, the name of the God of Judaism, and the Greek letters of Phi Gamma Delta in Wikipedia. —C.Fred (talk) 16:53, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
ok but you still have not backed up your claim that there is a consensus that believes mormans are cristians Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 18:05, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
@Greenhighwayconstruction: There's been broad community consensus for over 15 years. See Talk:Mormonism/Archive 1#Question of whether Mormonism is a branch of Christianity and Talk:The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints/Archive 17#Not really Christian..., among others. —C.Fred (talk) 18:17, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
ok, but the debate is over a decade old where would i go to request a review of that decision. Greenhighwayconstruction (talk) 18:21, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
@Greenhighwayconstruction: I'm going to say to Talk:The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, since it's probably the highest-traffic page within the LDS sphere. Be prepared with a multitude of reliable sources to back up your position, since you're going to need to demonstrate that the consensus of scholarly sources is that they're non-Christian. —C.Fred (talk) 18:25, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Thank you so much for giving this editor a warning. Now he has done the same removal of side labels but put "Fixed typo" in the Edit summary field for Happy Heart (album) and also made the same edit without a summary on Honey (Andy Williams album). It seems like if I revert them he'll just do it again, so I thought I'd ask you for the best course of action since you're obviously more experienced at handling these situations. Danaphile (talk) 19:02, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

@Danaphile: I've escalated the warning. Let me know if you see similar such actions: given the warnings they've gotten, I'd have no problem blocking them if they were to do it again. —C.Fred (talk) 19:06, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Unprotection of page

Can you unprotect this page to autoconfirmed user Susovan Sonu Roy, I want to edit this page.117.227.111.131 (talk) 09:45, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Frankly, no. An experienced user with proper sourcing would know the proper channels to present a candidate page. I will not unprotect the mainspace title, period. I will not even unprotect the draft page, for fear of it being used for spam—particularly since a lot of the bad pages were created by a blocked or banned user. —C.Fred (talk) 13:13, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

The Kashmir Files edit requests

Most of us have just been removing those types of requests as duplicates and disruptive. They end up clogging the page and archives of we don't, and it also falls under a bit of WP:DENY. Ymmv of course. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:46, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

@ScottishFinnishRadish: Yeah, there was one I should probably have removed as redundant. —C.Fred (talk) 23:47, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
I only mentioned it because it's gotten out of hand at that talk page a few times.
On an unrelated note, who has an account for 15 years and makes no edits until they decide to complain about Will Smith? Bklau, apparently. It's odd how often I see old accounts that pop up after a decade to commit vandalism or something, having never edited. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 23:58, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Detainees held in the Bagram Theater Internment Facility

Hello, C.Fred. You're an Administrator and I was hoping you might be able to deal with this because I am hesitant to touch it and you are clearly far more versed with this sort of thing (and I don't know who else to ask). I'm looking at this article and it has several stubs that appear to be mostly nonsense/just rehashes of things in the main article (ie, they seem to be candidates for speedy deletion; eg, Pasta Khan and Raiz). I'm not entirely sure which template one would use, though, and I don't want to get into some revert craziness. Perhaps you'd be willing to do this? Would appreciate your assistance. Incidentally, the person who initially wrote these pages was indefinitely blocked recently (in March, I believe). Thanks. 40.133.234.46 (talk) 20:56, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

Warning users

Hi! Sorry to bother you, I'm still a bit inexperienced with some parts of this. I was trying to warn a user and they ended up blocked before I added the warning, so it shows up after the block notice. Should I move it to the proper section or just leave it be? Perfect4th (talk) 22:32, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

@Perfect4th: I've had that happen before, where I was going to warn a user, but somebody else blocked them. A lot of times, I've reverted the warning with an edit summary like "well, guess it was a little late for that..." —C.Fred (talk) 00:08, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

Threatning messages

I have got a message from you about editing -

Leaving bogus warnings on other people's pages is worse. —C.Fred (talk) 04:52, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at 2012 Asia Cup. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 13:52, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, you may be blocked from editing. Motu Patlu and Chhota Bheem Lover 5 (talk) 05:58, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

I did warn an IP. Before I warned them, they had left these messages on their user talk page.[1] They then improperly warned a user and vandalized 2012 Asia Cup. —C.Fred (talk) 11:50, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

@C.Fred: Some time ago, you engaged with a rather tenacious editor on Talk:Seraphim Rose, specifically regarding his sexuality. This editor (who I will leave untagged but is "Classical library"), a fairly stereotypical WP:SPA, has engaged in accusations and threats in their first edits in a couple years, reverting sourced material by citing a supposed consensus that was never achieved. This editor seems to only return to police that page to remove details of Rose's sexuality, and I would like to ask for your opinion what the best solution to such a situation would be, as I have had to deal with similarly belligerent and uncooperative editors recently and want a rapid resolution. ~ Pbritti (talk) 00:39, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

@Pbritti: I have gone straight to WP:ANI, since the user was blocked previously for bad-faith comments toward other users. —C.Fred (talk) 01:40, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
@C.Fred: I appreciate your promptness. I was uncertain if I should do that, as I was very recently involved in a spat with another editor bearing similar characteristics that was resolved ineffectively and without finality on that page. Thank you. ~ Pbritti (talk) 01:43, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Changes you undid in 'List of highest-grossing Tamil films'

In the article List of highest-grossing Tamil films the first entry in the table 'Highest-grossing Tamil films by year' for the year 2022 has Worldwide gross set at 300 crores, which is incorrect, as per the 6 referenced articles, 1 directly present in the table and 5 others present in the talk section the value is 218 crores. This needs to be updated.

Kowsikbabu (talk) 14:11, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I am Theoder2055, in the article List of highest grossing Tamil films I see @Sathyalingam removing the content every time without explaining. He does this not for the first time but every times. Following up on the previous update on the article List of highest-grossing Tamil films the first entry in the table 'Highest-grossing Tamil films by year' for the year 2022, Titled "Valimai" has verified articles which references 235 234 crores. This stat is no longer valid as another user has submitted article referencing the movie "Beast" has surpassed this gross collection by achieving 235 crores. Reference here The same change needs to updated in the 'Top 10 gross collections of all time as well (which is actually out of place).

Kowsikbabu (talk) 09:36, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Edit revert on Ehelepola Wijesundara

Dear Fred

I noticed that you had reverted my edit on Ehelepola Nilame’s name due to the source being unreliable. I had sourced this directly from the official Dalada Maligawa Page. Dalada Maligawa is the official bearer of the Temple of Tooth and the Surrounding Castles, including Ehelepola Nilame’s. I understand a facebook post isn't a reliable source under most circumstances but in this instance, Dalada Maligawa only creates literature through facebook to capture more audiences. The dalada Maligawa bears a golden casket donated by Ehelepola Nilame (Nilame is not a name but a title) with his full name inscription. The facebook article clearly contains the correct version of his name.It is common for people to misunderstand Ehelepola Nilame’s name as the british monarchy destroyed various records of our history. Can you please revert it back to my edit.

Sincerely Maha Kalu Sinhalaya Maha kalu sinhalaya (talk) 12:44, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

@Maha kalu sinhalaya: You will need a consensus of editors at the article's talk page to determine that the source is reliable. —C.Fred (talk) 20:45, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you, again

I recently came to you regarding the now-blocked editor Classical library and really appreciate your help dealing with that. Because of this, I again want to turn to you for help (if that's appropriate). I think I have had repeat and abusive encounters with a frequent sockpuppetry offender. I really don't want to start a witch hunt here because this is also an editor with whom I've had a partially-resolve dispute. I'm fairly certain that the editor Qaumrambista is a sockpuppet of Vishall Elias Manesh. Now, the evidence of this is mostly circumstantial, but I discovered it when I saw that Qaumrambista's edits lined up roughly with those of another user, Jude Didimus, and emphasized articles on Indian (specifically Syriac Indian) Christianity. Almost exactly the same time that Jude Didimus called it quits after several of their edits were rejected, a series of IPs traced to and accepted by Qaumrambista as their own appeared (details of this can be seen in an ANI I filed against Qaurambista earlier this month for incivility here). Further circumstantial evidence appeared when Jude Didimus appeared to be recognized as a sockpuppet by a fellow editor (here). Even more might be ascribed when the edits made by Qaumrambista not only match the content but also the type of edit–frequent undiscussed page moves being a common MO among VEM's sockpuppets. Obviously, none of this is concrete, so I think it would have been inappropriate to take this to ANI. However, I was hoping you could just take a cursory look. I can provide more details as needed. Thanks! ~ Pbritti (talk) 04:38, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

@Pbritti: I have been notified. If you are fairly certain that the editor Qaumrambista (which is me) is a sockpuppet of Vishall Elias Manesh, then what retards you from going to ANI! I think you are stalking me all around. Qaumrambista (talk) 05:24, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
Well, many of the pages you edit are on my watchlist, especially after Jude Didimus blew through. Also, I'm fairly certain it was you who followed me to the Seraphim Rose discussion (not sure that would have been on your radar except if you were following me). ~ Pbritti (talk) 05:27, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

@Pbritti: everything is evident: who's stalking whom and all. Try to dig out the next allegation afterthis is over. So do not stop dreaming. Qaumrambista (talk) 05:34, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Please Lock Page

Dear C. Fred Good morning/Afternoon/Night introduce me JGNTHA

I ask for help to lock Joko widodo's page because someone made Vandal Edits which is like making fun of Joko widodo's name. Anonym change name Joko widodo to Joko wikodok which in English "kodok" is frog

Thanks From JGNTHA (talk) 04:02, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

With regards to the name position on this page, I totally agree in principle and in general with placing the full proper name first, but in this particular instance it's a little nonsensical - not only because the full name is a total mouthful but also because it lacks any recognizability or even the all-critical component "Ibn Taymiyyah" - so its not the name he's known by, not recognizable and not legible - overall making it more of a hinderance than a help to the reader. As I understand it, there is a degree of latitude in the naming position, and the guidelines seem to accept that in some culture it was quite common not to refer to people by their full names, which is the often the case in Arabic-Persian culture, particularly with key figures, where the moniker often causes the real name to pale into relative insignificance. Iskandar323 (talk) 07:35, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

I had taken your advice

Just so you know, I had taken your advice about a certain editor but his interactions haven’t changed and it appears he has ignored your own advice to him regarding interacting with me. Again, I’m going to try and take the high road here but I’m just giving you a heads up on this because as I have observed in the past it’s a pattern of behavior that has led to the multiple ANI discussions regarding him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.233.44 (talk) 15:16, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Malicious editing with intent to defame

@Supra75521: I assume you refer to Carl von Bismarck, which has a history of editors with conflicts of interest removing material from the page. I've acted in proper administrative fashion on the page; as the talk page shows, there was some material that was flagged as needing sources, but it's been long enough ago that I looked at the page that I can't remember details. —C.Fred (talk) 15:34, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Query

Hello, C.Fred,

I was following an edit made to a category and came across the user talk page of ToasyCake100. I see a lot of user talk pages of new editors every day but I don't think I've ever seen one with so many notices about incorrect information for images or problems with copyright. I'm really not an expert on files or copyright regulation but I saw you left a notice there for them. I just wonder if there are ongoing problems and more needs to be said to them or if this is a issue that has been addressed. I trust your judgment on this but I thought I'd ask. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 03:33, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

@Liz: Thank you for asking. I think there is an issue with editor attitude that's starting to reveal itself. They reverted the edit, but this comment speaks of an unwillingness to follow guidelines.
I don't think they do bad work, but it's incomplete work, since they haven't been adding license information–especially since they're adding images of corporate logos, which are almost always copyright and non-free. (There are a few exceptions where the logos are simple shapes and type, so simple that they can't be copyrighted.) Images are a complex area, and while it's good for new editors to want to jump in and help, it's a tricky area, even for seasoned editors. I wonder how they would respond to a message with an offer to help guide them as an editor and teach them how to do things right, since most of the messages on their talk page have been things they've done wrong. —C.Fred (talk) 10:48, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

As far as proving the non-existing of something, if reliable sources say it exists, then you have to find counter-sources to say it doesn't, or otherwise find a way to challenge the sources. —C.Fred (talk) 21:48, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

Review

Hi, i am writing to you to seek advice on an ANI i started recently [7]. I am deeply unsatisfied with the judgement from the admin intervening which is ignoring the founding wikipedia policy and guideline about civility making the false equivalence between criticism over topic (using a WP:ijustdontlikeit) and multiple personal attack (i cannot directly link it, but you can use "20:55, 6 June 2022 (UTC)" as the date of his comment to see it). We have in wiki even a template warning stating the stark difference between the two. Since i am a relatively new user i don't know how to proceed in this case. Can i ask some other admin to take a look at it, or can I bring the case here, which is what i have found so far as alternative? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers. --Opencross (talk) 12:11, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

@C.Fred: I think i forgot to ping Opencross (talk) 18:33, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
@Opencross: I don't see where there's any administrative action that needs taken. There was some confusion about where a move discussion needed to take place, but it looks like it's under way. Further, what administrative action are you appealing: that nothing was done? Since discussion is still open, there's opportunity for other admins to take action—if they feel it's warranted. —C.Fred (talk) 19:16, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

Dr. Frances Luella Welsing (née Cress; March 18, 1935 – January 2, 2016) was an American psychiatrist and was not a well-known proponent of the Black supremacist melanin theory. Dr. Welsing was not a Black supremacist and you are only expressing your opinion if you're saying she was. Dr. Welsing was a competent and well respected psychiatrist. It is a dis-service and an insult to logical thinkers to force this misinformation to Wikipedia readers. What Black supremist group did Dr. Welsing belong to? When did she ever say that she was a Black supremist. You are shaming her good name if you believe what you are saying and this misinformation has to be stopped. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgreene999 (talkcontribs) 20:42, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

@Jgreene999: She is clearly identified with the melanin theory, and she is cited as referring to white people as "genetically defective". We also have a third-party source for "Black supremacist melanin theory". —C.Fred (talk) 21:35, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
"genetically defective" only means that white people can not produce any other hue but white. That makes them genetically speaking, defective. This statement does not make a respected medical doctor of psychiatry a Black supremist. If you want to deny that genetically speaking she is wrong, try to make that argument. Genetically speaking, white people can't produce any other hue but themselves no matter who they conceive with. This genetic fact does not make the person who is stating this fact, a Black supremacist, as you say. Jgreene999 (talk) 21:41, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

My adversary in the edit dispute, namely one Pbritti, is removing more reliable sources and quotes and adding poor and misleading content. The sources which I have added is hands down the best anyone can bring on this topic. Istvan Perczel, for example, is the best expert on Saint Thomas Christians today. Sebastian Brock is scholar of Syriac Christianity. I believe you will correct your mistake. 2402:8100:3900:C20:1F7C:A79B:9D74:8D55 (talk) 16:18, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

I'll wait to see how the discussion resolves on the talk page. —C.Fred (talk) 19:12, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
Further, I haven't really looked at your edits in the lens of content. I've been looking at conduct. I'm seeing an editor who 1) makes attacking remarks in summaries, 2) is in the range of an IP partial block for long-term abuse and 3) overlaps a blocked/banned editor. Those are three giant strikes against your edits. —C.Fred (talk) 19:23, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

Does that mean that you can misuse your powers to replace the better and scholarly version with a poor and misleading un-encyclopaediac version? What message are you trying to convey! It is harmful to the users who depend on Wikipedia for reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:8100:3906:E5D:DEB:99CE:5B2B:164 (talk) 01:26, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Consider your next messages carefully. If you engage in good-faith discussions about the article, its sources, and Wikipedia policies, I will assume good faith about you. If you continue with attacks, that will only act to confirm my fears about who is (ab)using these IPs. —C.Fred (talk) 01:54, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

See, I am only expressing my concern. It is not meant to offend anyone. 1662 cannot be seen as an origin date because of two reasons: first, it is unsourced. No book gives that date and nobody has agreed to that date in discussion. Second, the date is illogical. The schism, that is Coonan Cross Oath, is usually seen as a revolt against Portuguese authority, not Rome. Hence 1662 is not a date of reunion. Meanwhile, you are also removing reputed historians books and articles from citations.2402:8100:3906:E5D:DEB:99CE:5B2B:164 (talk) 02:30, 28 June 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.15.202.164 (talk) 02:31, 28 Jun 2022 (UTC)

Again, I am not editing based on content. I am editing as an administrative action to address edits that appear to be abusive or in defiance of blocks or bans. I may very well be removing "reputed historians books and articles from citations", but I'm not taking responsibility for adding the historians, books, or articles without reading them first; I'm just not letting abusive edits stand. —C.Fred (talk) 02:45, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

@Dnl.briseno: You also haven't cited sources to show it's significant or important. Not every semi-pro league warrants an article. —C.Fred (talk) 21:51, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

Likely paid contributor

Much like Esthappanos Bar Geevarghese a short while ago, it looks like there is another Indian Christian paid contributor, Gramam, has been adding high-quality portrait images of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church bishops. These images appear originally on WikiMedia, so they are not copyright violations. However, the character of the images and method of adding multiple images to each article seems to break the paid contributor standards. Just posted a first-level warning on their talk page. ~ Pbritti (talk) 15:08, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Arnie Bernstein Alumni Status at Niles West High School

Hi C.Fred! I see that you repeatedly reverted edits to add Arnie Bernstein to the alumni section of Niles West High School. I was doing some research and found some sources that I wanted to run by you to see if you find them acceptable before I added him. 1. Bernstein's Twitter (https://mobile.twitter.com/RealArnieB/status/1363875003251494914)- While Twitter is not usually an acceptable source, I feel it might be acceptable in this case per WP:TWITTER. 2. Pickinsix Conservations with Ed Tracy (https://www.conversationswithedtracy.com/de-usuris/?offset=1495034149066&category=Books) 2. Chicago Reader (https://chicagoreader.com/arts-culture/in-print-the-history-of-hollywood-on-the-lake/) 3. 1978 Niles West yearbook listing him as a student on pg. 22. Lewandowski

Could you portect Robert Lewandowski? As you can see the transfer market is causing the article to go haywire. Thanks. TylerBurden (talk) 16:32, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

No need to block my account. According to several rulings of the European High Court adopted a posteriori by FIFA, the player transferred to another club officially by both parties, can now be considered a new player of the transferred club. The club is obliged to sign a contract with the transferred player by a clause stipulated in the transfer. Please, revert your blocking act. Vicpumu (talk) 17:08, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
@Vicpumu: Do you acknowledge that you edited the article without citing a reliable source? —C.Fred (talk) 17:25, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

I made it very clear from the modification that the two clubs had made an official statement. I don’t mind adding a reference to the two releases Vicpumu (talk) 17:28, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

I will give you a clear example, on the last day of the transfer market period, there are many clubs that make last minute signings. regardless of the contract established with the player, FIFA considers that if the two clubs have reached an agreement and the player agrees to this, the drafting and signing of the subsequent contract is a simple process. Vicpumu (talk) 17:31, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Please, revert the blocking Vicpumu (talk) 17:33, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Disruptive edits

Hi, I’m Theoder2055. User:Sathyalingam is continuously making disruptive edits by removing content from List of highest-grossing Tamil films without any explanation. We have warned him several times. I feel for now it’s better to block him from editing. What are you suggesting? Theoder2055 (talk) 11:52, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

@Theoder2055: I have blocked the user from editing any articles for one month. They can still request edits via the talk page—but that will require them to communicate, which will be a step in the right direction. —C.Fred (talk) 13:14, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, now user Prana87 is also continuously making disruptive edits. After several times of warning, that user is still making disruptive edits from the page D Block and Annaatthe. Is it possible to block that user? That user doesn’t even know how to reply to talkpage messages. Theoder2055 (talk) 13:35, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

@Theoder2055: They've been warned. For whatever reason they didn't respond, they've now been blocked. —C.Fred (talk) 13:38, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Even MNWiki845. He is continuously adding unsourced or poorly sourced content in pages like South Africa women's cricket team in England in 2022. We have warned him several times also. Is it possible to block him also? I also suspect that he abusively used multiple accounts like MNWiki846. Theoder2055 (talk) 19:35, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Would you agree that User:GetRektLLLLL is NOTHERE?

I'm seeing dubious assertions not backed up by sources, discussion in edit summary only, edit warring. In this last edit, an acknowledgment of your previous warning was followed by an edit which accomplished the same misdeed. Behavior is quite trollish, possible username vio notwithstanding. Opinion? BusterD (talk) 03:14, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

@BusterD: It's a tricky point with AGF. They stopped after the last warning and haven't made any more edits. I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger on a block, but it would only take one more bad edit. —C.Fred (talk) 11:27, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

help with editing page of someone I know

Hi there! Thanks for your message. I would appreciate your help. Someone keeps including information about an assault charge that my partner's brother, Doug Haines, got many years ago. He fulfilled the requirements of the court and the charge is no longer on his record. Why can't I delete it from his page? He does not hold public office, and he didn't when the charge occurred, either. MBKramer (talk) 18:03, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

@MBKramer: It was while he was a candidate for public office, so it is relevant to the article, even though he wasn't the incumbent at the time of the incident. As for expungement of the charge from his record, there is no reliable source stating that happened; there are reliable sources stating he was sentenced in a plea deal. —C.Fred (talk) 18:21, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
It was after the election, so he wasn't technically a candidate. It was 18 years ago, and he has had zero incidents since. It is not on his record (not sure how to verify that, but I can find out). What purpose does its inclusion serve? MBKramer (talk) 21:23, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
Also - thank you very much for engaging in this conversation with me. MBKramer (talk) 21:24, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Rollback on Club World Cup

Hi, You reverted my edit on the Future FIFA Club World Cup (China). There was no summary or explanation, but it's apparent that it was under "rollback", which is supposed to be used for vandalism and where it's abundantly clear why it's removed. Why did you do this? As I mentioned in my edit - which was summarised - Chelsea being defending champions is irrelevant to that competition. Rambo Apocalypse (talk) 13:44, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

@Rambo Apocalypse: The edit summary is the problem: "they're certain to lose the title this season" smacks of WP:CRYSTAL, which made the edit appear bad faith. That said, I don't see where other football/soccer competitions have defending champions listed; had the edit summary said you were removing it for consistency with other competition articles, it would have been fine. —C.Fred (talk) 16:25, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
Isn't there something in the Wikipedia rules about how you're supposed to assume good faith? Have they got rid of that rule or does it just not apply to you?
Football articles frequently include the defending champions. The reason for my summary was that they didn't win the UEFA Champions League. Under the format they've used in every edition of the competition they will not qualify and thus cannot defend the title.
Admittedly the format is somewhat up in the air at the moment, so the edit summary overstated the certainty of it but they still shouldn't be on there as defending champions if they may not be able to defend it. Perhaps one could include that they're the current champions.Rambo Apocalypse (talk) 17:39, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
@Rambo Apocalypse: And that's what "defending champions" implies, with "reigning champions" or "current champions" as alternate forms. —C.Fred (talk) 20:18, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Seriously? How can they be defending champions if they aren't in the competition to defend the title? Rambo Apocalypse (talk) 20:53, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

@Rambo Apocalypse: As I said, "current champions" or "reigning champions" may be clearer in that regard. —C.Fred (talk) 21:43, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Disruptive User

User:Nickiandyeoutsold has been warned on multiple occasions that his vandalism, self-made information and lack of adding proper citations can get him blocked and he persists. He also has been warned against personal attacks on editors and nevertheless, he persists. Seeing as though you were someone who once warned him, I’m asking that further actions be taken against this user including a possible blocking. He has been blocked before and learned nothing from it. I don’t think this user will change. Zvig47 (talk) 17:14, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Rename old article

https://m.thewire.in/article/law/calling-people-harijan-or-dhobi-is-offensive-supreme-court The name dhobi is a court banned name, how can we write it as an article title, and I have changed this page only after taking formal permission from Wikipedia admins a year ago and compiling this information in my talk page, how can a new admin change this without any reason and they should change it themselves. Baba God (talk) 05:17, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

@Baba God: None of that was cited specifically in your change. You'll still need to request the move at the article's talk page and get community consensus; admins do not grant permission to move a page, and certainly not a year in advance. —C.Fred (talk) 03:03, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

I have changed the page under Rajak(caste) title after taking formal permission a year ago, all those who have changed this are new admins should see it, and I have also raised a complaint that many people are changing this page except admins, on the basis of which the page has been protected. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhobi Baba God (talk) 05:20, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

I humbly request that the article be changed to the real name Baba God (talk) 05:22, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

@Baba God: As stated above, you'll need to initiate a request at Talk:Dhobi. —C.Fred (talk) 03:05, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

Peter Dragone - Co-Founder of Keurig Inc

Hi,

My name is Hans van Putten and I have a few questions regarding Peter Dragone, Co-Founder of Keurig Inc.

I am his business partner and trying to sort out his Wikipedia listing.

A while ago his details were published to Wikipedia, but somehow, they disappeared.

I found his page again here: Peter Dragone - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How come is Peter not on wikipedia.com and how come is his name on the Keurig page (Keurig - Wikipedia) not linked?

I would be very grateful if you could let us know how to rectify this.

On behalf of Peter Dragone,

Thanks very much

Hans van Putten

p.s. Please check out our company here (Our Team - WWLC - WorldWide Local Connect Inc.) to verify that I actually am who I say I am. Puttenh (talk) 16:37, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

@Puttenh: For whatever reason, no article about him has been created. Because you are his business partner, you have a conflict of interest and should not create the article yourself. You may put in a request at WP:Articles for creation. —C.Fred (talk) 17:39, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response. If peter Dragone himself creates the article would that be OK or does it have to be an independent 3rd party?
Does any 3rd party work or do you have someone, in other words if I, or Peter send an article to the wp.Articles link you mention would that be OK?
Tks
Hans Puttenh (talk) 18:21, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
@Puttenh: It is as bad, or worse, if Dragone creates the article about himself. There should be a list at WP:AFC for articles to be created. That's a way to invite an independent third party to create the article. —C.Fred (talk) 18:35, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
Ah OK, will do. Thanks again for the pointers! Best, Hans Puttenh (talk) 18:37, 22 August 2022 (UTC)

Important

@C.Fred: I don’t know what to do. The same user Sathyalingam has again started. He is adding unsourced or poorly sourced content in Ponniyin Selvan: I. I have also reverted it and warned him but despite that he still continues. Already he blanked out and removed portions of page content in List of highest grossing Tamil films for which also I warned and now he started adding unsourced material in that page. Will he again make disruptive edits? The problem is that he is not explaining his contributions in the edit summary. Theoder2055 (talk) 17:39, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Categories for deletion

Please could you tell me how to nominate a category for deletion or get a category deleted? I looked it up but still don't understand. An editor created the category Category:Films directed by Duncan McLachlan even though they knew her name was actually Dee, as evidenced by the page history. I've just created the category Category: Films directed by Dee McLachlan. I've blanked the wrong category and put the movies in that category into the correct one. That other category shouldn't exist. Stephanie921 (talk) 18:58, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

@Stephanie921: You're looking for WP:Categories for Discussion. —C.Fred (talk) 03:33, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Disruptive edits

@C.Fred: Also another thing this user Rohithhs200 is continuously making disruptive edits despite several warnings. Is it possible to block him? Theoder2055 (talk) 11:35, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

@Theoder2055: They haven't infringed again since their final warning. —C.Fred (talk) 15:43, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@C.Fred: Even if we doesn’t warn him he will afterwards start making disruptive editing after we stop warning. So we don’t know when he will continue the same. But that’s up to your wish if do you think this user stopped making edits which constitutes vandalism. Theoder2055 (talk) 15:46, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

@C.Fred: Is if possible to start the sockpuppet investigation of User:ArvindPalaskar. An IP has reported to me that User:ArvindPalaskar is a sockpuppet of User:NavjotSR in my talk page. Is that true? I suggest to investigate as soon as possible and it’s better to reply me also. Theoder2055 (talk) 11:08, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

@Theoder2055: If you feel there's sufficient evidence, you can go ahead and open the report.C.Fred (talk) 11:41, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@Theoder2055: The IP's report looks bad faith. I don't see where a SPI would get any traction. —C.Fred (talk) 12:30, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@Theoder2055: Thanks for pinging me. The IP who reported it to you is Deepika o the long term abuser who has now attracted the attention of dozens of users dedicated to catch and report him. I would say you should read WP:DFTT and ignore this sock from now. ArvindPalaskar (talk) 12:24, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@Theoder2055: I have to agree with ArvindPalaskar, having taken a closer look at both users. The IP definitely made a bad-faith accusation of sockpuppetry. Yeah, there's topic overlap, but that's coincidence. —C.Fred (talk) 12:28, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@ArvindPalaskar: then what about the account User:NavjotSR?
Did you use that account?
Theoder2055 (talk) 12:27, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
@Theoder2055: They're under no obligation to answer that question. This admin doesn't see any need to pursue further investigation of sockpuppetry there. The activity of the IP, on the other hand… —C.Fred (talk) 12:30, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

@Theoder2055, ArvindPalaskar, and NavjotSR:, and, of course, C.Fred: I too got talk page messages from the same IP editor about this, and I totally agree with C.Fred. Unfortunately, though, the IP edits are spread across a wide IPrange, with large amounts of unrelated editing, so blocking is not an option. JBW (talk) 13:09, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale

Your are wrong with restoring the wrong information sourced to Lulu.com [14] (a depreciated self-published unreliable source) by relying on a footnote from this unreliable source over here.

The actual reliable sources note his birth date to be 2 June, 1947 such as this reliable source, The Tribune,[15] this scholarly book which was written by scholar Khushwant Singh, and more.

I expect you to self revert on my talk page where you accused me of vandalism and also on the article where you have reverted me over this dating, as well as update your comment on ANEW report. Srijanx22 (talk) 19:51, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

@Srijanx22: Neither the News9Live piece nor the Singh book were cited in your version of the page. I could change it from an error warning to an unsourced warning, if you really prefer. —C.Fred (talk) 20:03, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Still no "vandalism" happened, thus the warning should be removed. I knew that 2 June is the correct date and this is why I was doing the blanket revert. If it was going to be challenged like now then I would be surely backing up myself, just like I have. With the sources I have provided here and on talk page, I don't think that this should be considered "unsourced" anymore. But if you self-revert yourself then I will add the source in a matter of a few minutes. Srijanx22 (talk) 20:16, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
@Srijanx22: The mention of vandalism is in the standard text for uw-error2. I don't see a need to change it. —C.Fred (talk) 20:30, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Fine but I also asked you to self-revert here so that I can quickly add the source to birth date. It may seem as if I am edit warring against you if I reverted you. Srijanx22 (talk) 20:41, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
@Srijanx22: Better yet, propose the change to the date of birth at the article's talk page. I'll be glad to review it and make the edit there. —C.Fred (talk) 21:14, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

Another Sockpuppet case

Hello @C.Fred: I have noticed User:Sathyalingam edits and he is also adding unsourced or poorly sourced content. He mainly edit on Ajith Kumar and Vijay’s films. Ajith Kumar and Vijay are top stars in Tamil cinema and have so many fans in Tamil cinema. This user is also big fan of them. He is also one among the Sockpuppets of User:Valimai, User:Nerkonda Paarvai, User:Thalapathybeast, User:Valimai Ajithkumar, User:VeeraVijayapandi, User:ThalaAjithkumar as these users are also big fans of Ajith Kumar and Vijay and they also change the box office collection without citing a reliable source. You can say that he is introducing incorrect information into articles. But what I noticed that Sathyalingam’s edits is similar to them. If you want you can check his contributions. Theoder2055 (talk) 07:23, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

One evidence is that in pages like Beast (2022 Indian film), Varisu, Valimai and other Ajith Kumar and Actor Vijay’s films these users make disruptive edits by making unconstructive edits and adding unsourced or poorly sourced content in those pages. They also got warned for that as well. Theoder2055 (talk) 07:28, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Boaters

Hi @C.Fred, wanted to discuss my edit on boater hats. Part of why I use Wikipedia is the why of things and I had to do some research as to why boater hats are used at conventions - @Lacimoore1 Lacimoore1 (talk) 05:47, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

@Lacimoore1: The place for discussion like that is the article's talk page (Talk:Boater). I hadn't seen your edit until you left this message. —C.Fred (talk) 13:23, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
I have an unrelated question you might be able to answer quickly, why can’t pictures with citations be shared? I’ve read in several places “only original pictures “ or “permission only” why is that a picture can’t be posted if it’s cited? Lacimoore1 (talk) 15:58, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
@Lacimoore1: The goal of Wikipedia is to be a free encyclopedia; therefore, we minimize the amount of content we use that is not free (i.e., under restrictive copyrights). Images can be used relatively liberally if they are free images: if they are in the public domain or under a free license such as Creative Commons. If they are not free, then the much more restrictive guidance of WP:Non-free content criteria comes into play. At that point, there has to be a compelling reason to use the non-free image: this typically means there isn't a possible way to replace it with a free image. —C.Fred (talk) 18:17, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Hazaras

Hi respectful C.Fred, My edit on the Hazaras article is based on contemporary genetic research, and many sources have clearly stated that the Hazaras are more closely related to the Turkic people of Central Asia than to East Asia and the Mongolians.[1] Regards--Iampharzad (talk) 04:31, 4 September 2022 (UTC) Iampharzad (talk) 04:31, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello, The user KoizumiBS disputes the article by providing several old and second-hand sources, and changes in content with authoritative sources already included in the article. These actions of his are said to be a type of racism. Thank You--Iampharzad (talk) 05:12, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

@Iampharzad: First, the content of your edits and the sources you use need to be discussed on the article talk. Second, KoizumiBS is adding sources that they start are more up to date. I don't see any evidence of bad-faith edits. Be very careful with accusations like racism against other editors; baseless accusations and accusations without evidence may be treated as personal attacks. —C.Fred (talk) 13:21, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
@C.Fred: Right, I got your point, but the source I added is much more up-to-date. Thanks a lot--Iampharzad (talk) 14:59, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Revert of the change

It's not allegations which i added on Sandeep Lamichhane page. The rape case has been already filed and the investigation is going on now.[16] DIVINE (talk) 19:45, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

That is exactly allegations. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:49, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
I get it, but after Nepal Police registered the case, there are no longer any allegations? I just wanted to add my references and contribution to the article rather than push it. DIVINE (talk) 19:51, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
It's allegations until there is a conviction. Investigations happen all the time, and often come to different conclusions than the allegations that led to them. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:54, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
That is why I also added the controversies and the allegations there. DIVINE (talk) 20:02, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
@DIVINE: Wikipedia is not a tabloid or newspaper. We do not report every complaint made against a notable person. Yes, the charges are serious, but at this time the only thing of substance is an allegation. If the case leads to formal charges and goes to trial, then we may be at the point where it's worth mentioning--or if he were to be held out of matches or suspended as a result of the charges. In the latter case, clearly we can see how the charges would directly affect him.
Rape is a serious allegation, and WP:BLP demands that we get it right. If we're going to err, we need to err on the side of leaving it out of an article, rather than putting it in prematurely or otherwise improperly. —C.Fred (talk) 20:26, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

Zeta Tau Alpha

Hello C.Fred. I'd support leaving those alumnae in among the notables from Zeta Tau Alpha. They probably merit articles of their own, and the lack of such articles is likely the reason you deleted those names. It would have been more helpful to advise that biographical WP articles ought to have been written first, and then they'd be reasonable additions, rather than just deleting them. I doubt that the editors writing this page understood your rationale for deletion. Frankly, a dean of a university is more noteworthy, to my mind, than a Miss USA pageant winner. But WP is rife with articles for those seeking publicity. Jax MN (talk) 05:28, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

@Jax MN: Yes, I could've mentioned WP:WTAF in the edit summary—but that assumes the editors who added the names would read edit summaries or talk page messages. Some of the probably could be notable, you're probably right. —C.Fred (talk) 19:15, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

Re: IPP web page

Thanks for your lightening fast admin!

We (ecaden and I) have a bit of an issue. It was ok that you renamed

   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_institute_of_particle_physics

to

   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Particle_Physics

But our original attempt got stuck in draft:

  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_of_Particle_Physics

Is there an easy way to clean things up and just go back to that name so we can change the "for" back to "of"?

Thanks, Peter Pcmacdon (talk) 14:03, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

@Pcmacdon:  Done I have merged the old draft history into the article's history, and I have moved it back to "of". I don't know how I missed that when I did the initial cleanup. Comment dit-on brainfart en français? 😂 —C.Fred (talk) 16:05, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

So you are allowed to add things, I’m taking it out as it’s all wrong! And I’m getting told off for it? Southernraider (talk) 06:42, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

@Southernraider: It's not "all wrong", and the article has been refined further to clarify that what he was found guilty of (or whatever term the tribunal uses) was just abusive language, not racist. —C.Fred (talk) 16:32, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Do you not think that contradicts itself, the word allegedly needs to be in there if it stays like that.. , even one of the sources uses the word allegedly Southernraider (talk) 19:58, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Are title casing rules enforced when a work's own title explicitly violates them?

Hello,

I saw you reverted this recent edit I made to adhere with the WP MOS: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Too_Short_a_Season&type=revision&diff=1118453595&oldid=1118453191

I assume that specifically this refers to the MOS's section on title casing? Of course normally the "a" should be lowercased but this specific title intentionally breaks those rules, as shown in official sources like IMDB, Memory Alpha, and the episode's own title card. From the title card it appears the work's creators intentionally chose to capitalize the "A" and many official sources follow that unusual casing. Does a work's own casing of its title win out over general title casing rules or not? The MOS mentions possible exceptions "when a significant majority of current, reliable sources that are independent of the subject consistently capitalize, in the title of a specific work", but that exception might only apply when the word isn't being used as a preposition, which it is in this case.

I've made very few edits to Wikipedia so forgive my ignorance. This seems like a funny edge case that could be instructive and would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks! Varenc (talk) 03:18, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

Negar Mortazavi

I'm not sure why you removed the "criticism" section claiming the facts to be unfounded. Both "Hossein Ronaghi" and "Majid Tavakoli" are well-known political activists and the criticism raised by them is well-founded. Please refer to the "references". I understand you're referring to the "Living Person" section of (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Criticism) and it's a valid point; however, the criticism here is from "Reliable sources" and is"Neutral; hence, abides by the rules of Wikipedia. David Oyelowo protection

Thanks for the protection on the David Oyelowo article. This IP user has been a pain on serial commas for a while now, forcing them in to lead sections when against the consistency of the rest of the article. He has been following the same pattern of behaviour at Mark Rylance and See How They Run (2022 film) too, just for your info. Thanks again. - 109.153.36.104 (talk) 08:31, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Getting a nickname unlocked

I use the nickname Kompressor across most sites. It says it's not available here but when you go to the user:page for it, it says it doesn't exist. Is there any way to get it unlocked to be re-registered? 97.112.217.211 (talk) 21:28, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

It's in use at pl.wiki. You might want to create an account at another name and then make a change username request: the functionaries there may be able to assist with the account elsewiki. —C.Fred (talk) 21:40, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

The comma disruptor

Regarding the person who disrupted the Mark Rylance article and others, I just detonated a range bomb on 2600:100f:b000::/40. It's the latest in a series of blocks with reasons including "block evasion" and "CheckUser", and the general level of disruption indicated that forceful measures were called for. @Favonian: Thank you. I feel comfortable dropping /64s in IP6 land, not so much going wider, but definitely a wider-scale action was called for. —C.Fred (talk) 16:56, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Marjorie Franklin

Hi, I see you removed Marjorie Franklin from the list of psychologists and asked me to explain why she is important. First I do not see others defending on the talk page why they put someone one the list so I wondered why you do want that for her?

But to answer your question: Her theory of planned environmental therapy and the Q camp projects are important antecedents to the later formed therapeutic community movement. She also helped establish an at that time important institute that did research into criminal behaviour.

REGIW (talk) 16:43, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

@REGIW: The criteria of the list state that individuals have to be either significant psychologists (which she, definitionally, is not) or they have to have made significant contributions to the field of psychology. —C.Fred (talk) 17:43, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
What would be the inclusion cut off be for you? There seems to be no clear answer for this because there are multiple persons featured on this list which are on a comparable level of significance/notability as Franklin. Adding everyone who is identified as a psychologist would not be sensible, but when a person passes the notability criteria of Wikipedia that should already give an idea of that person's place in psychology right? And if we would be too stringent then we would be left with a list of only the 'great psychologists' giving a distorted picture of the field of psychology. REGIW (talk) 11:14, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
@REGIW: This would be a good thing to discuss at the talk page of the list and get consensus on. —C.Fred (talk) 12:51, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

RAS Syndrome

I've made a solid case as to why DC Comics is not a redundant acronym. There are even non-examples listed on the page itself that are identical in principle, IE OPEC Countries — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.70.2.200 (talk) 20:55, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Those would be good matters to discuss at the article's talk page, to try to build consensus, since the prevailing consensus is to include DC Comics on the list. —C.Fred (talk) 21:44, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
Yeah but facts aren't democratic. It's factually not a redundant acronym, by definition of redundant 198.70.2.200 (talk) 13:53, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

Well...

...they didn't make it hard to figure out who they are while there were sock/evading with their new account... - wolf 03:38, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi C.Fred, I see that you blocked User:Kompress0 from RAS syndrome because they are making disruptive edits similar to the ones they made when they were editing under the now-blocked User:198.70.2.200 and User:97.112.206.67. Kompress0 is now making the same disruptive edit on Mosquitofish as they had repeatedly made under the two IP accounts. I think Kompress0 should be blocked from Mosquitofish too, or just blocked entirely to match the IP blocks. This is the second account they've used to evade the original block that was imposed on User:97.112.206.67. CodeTalker (talk) 17:54, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
But the only reason I was blocked in the first place was reverting the reversions of my valid edits. Kompress0 (talk) 18:35, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
"Valid edits" is determined by the community, not the individual declaring them so. Moops T 18:41, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Well I made a case, with sources, as to why it's not. wolfchild just ignored it and continued edit warring, because edit warring takes two. Kompress0 (talk) 18:56, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
You may also want to read WP:EVADE before continuing to edit while your other accounts are blocked. CodeTalker (talk) 18:47, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
So when do Jacona and wolfchild get their blocks for edit warring? Kompress0 (talk) 18:58, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
They're claiming an exemption under WP:3RRNO #3. Are you sure you want to go further down that path? —C.Fred (talk) 19:40, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes Kompress0 (talk) 20:43, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

WP:BLPTALK breach

Hi, you may have seen but I wanted to draw your attention to this post on the Jeremy Griffith Talk page by the IP user whose edits to the main page you reverted in October, describing them as “Bias and non-NPOV; edit summaries make clear IP has an axe to grind with subject”. The Talk page post seems a pretty clear breach of WP:BLPTALK, defamatory etc.

Is it normal practise to put in the region today or the region then? On the Giza Pyramids page it puts the region down as 'Greater Cairo' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giza_pyramid_complex DJC647 (talk) 10:20, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

@DJC647: It depends on the subject. The Giza Pyramids are described based on where they are now; their construction is described based on where it occurred at the time of the construction. Edits to Bogota article

Mr. C. Fred, with the utmost sincerity I would clarify that I in no means meant to be harmful in the edits I made to Bogota, but with all due respect, I must admit my confusion as to why you removed the edits I made to the Bogota page, despite the fact that I cited my sources and even explained how they prove the points which I updated in the Bogota intro section. For example the page mentions the World cities ranking from 2014, even though this is not the most recent ranking, while the information that I updated contains the World cities ranking from 2021. I would have thought that adding more updated information would not only increase the level of content in the article, but also provided a more updated insight into the city. Which is why I really must ask the point of removing my edits. Lastly I would ask you to please take a look as the source which have been cited by me, as they Cleary demonstrate my point. There is no rule that says new information (which has been cited) cannot be added to the article as long as it is not biased, untruthful, which displays personal opinions, and is false. None of which where included in the section I added to the article. Which is why I would respectfully ask you to reconsider removing the information I added to this articl again. If you would very much like, you may certainly take a look at the sources I cited to see that the information is not only truthful, but historically accurate, and give you more insights into the city. I welcome you to make the edits you feel necessary in the wording of certain words in the section, but please as a matter of personal respect, recognize the worth of the information I have added and do not simply delete, as it can be proven by multiple sources such as the World Bank and Gawc 2018 cities ranking. Please respond if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them. 2600:4040:2A94:4000:19BB:2A55:E762:F435 (talk) 23:01, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

I ask you if you truly feel the need to change some of the information I added to the article (even if it is certain words) please talk to me and therefore we can discuss a better solution, but as a matter of personal respect please do not simply delete them, as I mentioned before they can be proven by multiple sources, which I researched before editing the article. But I believe you will find that the information is quite valid and more up to date, however if you still have any questions about the information I added please let me know. 2600:4040:2A94:4000:19BB:2A55:E762:F435 (talk) 23:03, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

After your semi-protection on that article expired, one of the IP socks of User:Deucalionite started to disrupt the article again. Can you take a look? Ktrimi991 (talk) 22:41, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

@Ktrimi991 I saw it and blocked the IP. —C.Fred (talk) 22:45, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. They will almost certainly use another IP to target the article, maybe some semi-protection will be needed later again. Cheers, Ktrimi991 (talk) 22:53, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
@Ktrimi991 I'd say that Daniel Case has taken care of that matter. —C.Fred (talk) 01:49, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
Indeed. Now that I took a look at the article's history, the socks started to target it more than a year ago! So stubborn. Ktrimi991 (talk) 12:56, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
