Toluca Lake
[edit]Not everybody has the ability to delete articles directly — it's given to the people who've been bumped up to "administrator" privileges instead of regular "user" privileges. Blanking the page isn't the best way to get it deleted, but those of us who deal with cleanup will look at the history to see why the page was blanked and see your comment.
A regular user can still tag a page for other people's attention, though, by using the various db tags listed at our criteria for speedy deletion. If you encounter another problem like that one, the tag you'll want is db-self, which puts it straight into the deletion queue (whereas blanking it puts it into the "uncategorized articles" queue instead, which is why it's not the best way to do it even though the page will eventually get deleted anyway.) If you ever come across other pages that strike you as likely to require deletion, there are other tags there which may be useful, and if a page doesn't meet any of those criteria then you can nominate it for wider discussion through the WP:AFD process.
Hope that helps a bit :-) Bearcat (talk) 08:24, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Your question about Category:People from Toluca Lake, Los Angeles
[edit]Hi Bob, Categories work differently from normal article pages. To populate the category you need to edit each article for the people in that category. Near the end of each article you should (hopefully) see a set of lines that look something like
-
-
You need to add to this set. If you do this and then look at the category again you should see that persons name added in there. I would add a word of caution though. Personally I would only add people who had some long-standing connection with the place - just living there for a couple of years doesn't, in my view, mean that you are 'from' a particular town. I hope this helps.
PS : Your original list is still available in the category's page history here Boissière (talk) 20:55, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! WikiBob47 (talk) 00:42, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Without reliable sources for each and every one of these, there are meaningful BLP worries too, even if there were a consensus for such a category. Gwen Gale (talk) 18:39, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps the most effective way to make the connection to this celebrity "enclave" is to assist in the development of the parent article. I had been concerned that the addition of Toluca Lake, Los Angeles to the Amelia Earhart article was not notable, but on further research, there was a legitimate connection to the aviatrix. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 20:12, 23 September 2011 (UTC).
- Thanks for the suggestion. That's where it was before. The challenge is that the names of famous residents were incorporated into the article, albeit in list format similar to the above, with references. Creating a long paragraph seems unwieldy. What do you suggest? WikiBob47 (talk) 20:36, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Bob, if I can be informal, I totally appreciate your being whacked back-and-forth by various editors, as you so clearly described in the Talk:Amelia Earhart talk page. That's what you get when you allow the great unwashed to have the temerity to edit an encyclopedia?! Seriously, it is a case ot the "too many cooks" syndrome that is all too evident in this wikywackywonderland. Let's keep talking. FWiW, the list with suitable references may have overwhelmed the original article, somewhat in the area of stretching the WP:Weight of a particular section. My suggestion? create a daughter article from the parent article and link it together. Bzuk (talk) 20:46, 23 September 2011 (UTC).
- Thanks! I now am being challenged that IMDb is not a reliable source for information about people in the entertainment business, even though it's the most accepted resource in Hollywood, and I've even had an editor say the NYTimes and LATimes are not reliable sources, so I get the challenge of working with a huge number of editors. I'll consider a daughter page, and I might also try to incorporate the major names into a section following history that's about contemporary times. Much appreciated.WikiBob47 (talk) 20:59, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry for not getting back to you on some of the points above. IMDb has been challenged before because it is essentially a fan-site, and does not have independent editorial or peer review. As an example, I have tried unsuccessfully for over a year to get a minor character's name spelled out properly despite having a note from a film script, a book reference and the spelling being correctly stated in all other sources, AMG, Turner, etc., and appearing that way on the video captions from the studio. The reason that any other legitimate print sources may be challenged is due to the lack of corroborating references or that the journalist involved may not be a subject expert. As to creating a "linked" or daughter article, I have done that at times when a very detailed section is being considered, such as an actor's filmology. If you choose to go that route, I can assist by providing some examples or helping in the editing process. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 15:43, 25 September 2011 (UTC).

My article John Beal (composer) has had alerts all over it for some time regarding sourcing. Regarding the "resume" assertion, I followed the format of other composers. Can someone help me get these alerts removed, or suggest what I still need to do to make it a clean article? Thanks! WikiBob47 (talk) 19:40, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
- If the resume section has reliable sources, then you can simply remove the maintenance tags...I'll take a look. Hang on. Go Phightins! 00:54, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Composer Conductor John Beal.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Composer Conductor John Beal.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:22, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

John Beal has an medal award that I can't discover how to configure properly.
His AIR MEDAL should have one Bronze Star AND the Numeral 8. He has one Single Mission Air Medal for heroism and eight Air Medals for bravery. Please help me fix this correctly.
Thank you!

The article Society of Composers & Lyricists has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Per multiple issues tag
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Endercase (talk) 01:00, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
