Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Bryan.AllegoryCAA. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 12:54, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Christopher Columbus High School (Miami-Dade County, Florida). While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. - Hi, thank you so much for your response. Hope you’re doing good! The following article also briefly mentions a private Catholic school as I did on this one:
- Lady Gaga
- “From age 11, she attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a private all-girls Roman Catholic school.Gaga has described her high-school self as "very dedicated, very studious, very disciplined" but also "a bit insecure". She considered herself a misfit and was mocked for "being either too provocative or too eccentric" Bryan.AllegoryCAA (talk) 15:22, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- I misunderstood, sorry! I understand now. Thank you very much for educating me on this. Bryan.AllegoryCAA (talk) 15:29, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- OK--yes, Lady Gaga is notable; your guy, not (yet). But please address the matter of the conflict of interest. The more you avoid that, the likelier it is that you will be blocked for WP:UPE or WP:COI. Drmies (talk) 15:48, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- I didn’t understand it. How do I address it? Bryan.AllegoryCAA (talk) 15:52, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Read the "Managing a conflict of interest" section and follow the links, particularly WP:DISCLOSE. Drmies (talk) 16:13, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hey Drmies, sorry, this is all still very confusing to me after reading. What if I’m not being paid or connected to the subject of the article? How do I address it?
- I’m no where near done with the article I’m writing which is why I have yet to add the references and other requirements, I’m focusing on building the body first and then polishing everything, adding what’s needed and removing what isn’t needed towards the end. It’s still a very rough draft. In fact, when I’m almost done with it I wouldn’t mind if others contributed too, I’m not trying to own the article or earn anything. How do I address that?
