If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam); and,
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. Turgan Talk 03:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Broom 3000™, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Broom 3000™ and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Turgan Talk 03:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username concerns

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: It is the name of a company that is using Wikipedia as a platform to promote its products. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 04:59, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Broom 3000 article

[edit]

Even though I think the article is unsalvageable, I've gone ahead and restored the Broom 3000 article. It is in your userspace at User:BraedonRPaul/Broom 3000.

Frankly, I don't think the product deserves mention in the encyclopedia. Wikipedia is not for things made up in, for, or after school. However, given the chance that you did write it for a school project, I've restored it. I'd suggest copying out the text and putting it up on your private webpage or the like.

You'll note that I've removed the comments that Tiger Woods, Harry Potter, etc. use the product. The Harry Potter claim is blatantly false; the remaining claims are also violations of the biographies of living people guidelines. User space does have some latitude, but not when it comes to BLP.

Finally, I would suggest keeping this article in your user space. You're welcome to create articles on other subjects, but make sure they are notable, and it is critical that the information is verifiable with independent reliable sources. —C.Fred (talk) 16:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User:BraedonRPaul/Broom 3000, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:BraedonRPaul/Broom 3000 and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:BraedonRPaul/Broom 3000 during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Ironholds (talk) 23:49, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
