[edit]I'm a Wikipedian that used to edit and maintain a couple pages specific to Politics of Virginia. I recently decided to re-learn the editing techniques, however, I forgot my old username and password. So here we are! If I edited something in error, please let me know.
Welcome
[edit]Hello, Bmh8n, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Salvio Let's talk 'bout it! 18:12, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
File Upload
[edit]I have deleted File:Thomassorensen.jpg, which you just uploaded, because it is a copyrighted image from here with no justification for its use on Wikipedia. In addition, it was tagged incorrectly as having a CC license. Frank | talk 16:49, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
I have also deleted File:Thomas Sorensen.jpg, an identical copy of the same image. Please do not continue to violate copyright, or your account will be blocked from editing. Frank | talk 17:19, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- I am an agent of the copyright holder. I thought that by changing the licensing I had resolved the issue. Please let me know what I need to do in order to fix this. Thank you for your help!. Bmh8n (talk) 19:02, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- Regarding the images, after I deleted the first one, you simply re-uploaded it under a different name and claimed you created the material. If you didn't actually do so, claiming you did is certainly not going to resolve anything. Regarding the article itself, the best place to discuss is on Talk:Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership, where I will post more information. Ultimately, this is about the encyclopedia, not your specific actions, so let's go through the process and see if it's possible to get material in properly. Also, I don't think it's necessary to post essentially the same message in three different places. Frank | talk 19:11, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Verifying copyright permission
[edit]Hi. The article Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership has come due for processing at the copyright problems review board, and it seems that we do not yet have verification of permission for this material. As the template that formerly blanked the page indicated, we must verify permission externally. I'm afraid we lack the means to positively identify our contributors since we do not require identification on account creation.
If you are in position to verify permission for this information, you may still do so and it can be restored. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the processes. If you need help, you are welcome to come by my talk page (linked after my username), and I'll be happy to guide you through the process. If you should choose to assert permission at the external website, please also drop by. If you verify this way rather than via e-mail, we may not see your notice for some time.
Thank you for your interest, and I apologize for the extra difficulty. Since copyright concerns are legal matters, we do try to proceed cautiously with them both to protect the project and copyright holders. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:42, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
