Information icon Hello, I'm Nightenbelle. I wanted to let you know that one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to British Indian Ocean Territory—has been undone because it appeared to be promotional. How so? I'm pretty sure the info was objective. I just changed the capital because the page for Camp Thunder Cove itself does not mention capital or administrative functions anywhere. BhamBoi (talk) 18:05, 6 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

[edit]

Hi BhamBoi, would you like me to batch-delete your recently-created redirects to Mount Lkest? The answer can be no if you'd like to keep manually tagging, but I thought I'd offer in case you wanted to save some time. DanCherek (talk) 05:09, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

They were created with a script, but I uploaded from the wrong file that had more redirects than I thought were necessary after creation, so I have been removing the ones that don't really work.
The thing is, I have only been deleting the ones that are XX Mount/Mt or Mountain/Mtn XX because it is really uncommon to have that word order. If you do see any more with the weird suffix/prefix swapped word order, it would really help me out if you could delete them. Thanks! BhamBoi (talk) 05:13, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So, I have been keeping ones that are Mount/Mt XX and XX Mountain/Mtn and I would appreciate your help in getting rid of the odd ones. BhamBoi (talk) 05:16, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I deleted 46 more redirects that I think were in the form of XX Mount/Mt. DanCherek (talk) 05:20, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! I try to not cause a headache for either of us again. Cheers! BhamBoi (talk) 05:21, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mass Redirects

[edit]

Hey BhamBoi, I appreciate your effort to contribute to Wikipedia. With that said, I think you're going overboard on the amount of redirects you're creating for various subjects. Yes, technically some of them can be misspelling, but they're not all necessarily likely. I guess what I'm saying is that you don't necessarily have to be as thought as you're seemingly trying to be. [edit]
Moved from User talk:Alex Spade

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zelenograd&diff=1122869884&oldid=1122820749 you reverted my edit of adding Zelenograd to a Moscow category under the basis that it is not a part of Moscow, but it most definitely is. It’s in both the first sentence and the short description of the Zelenograd article. Why did you remove it? BhamBoi (talk) 02:28, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's even in the Infobox: Federal Subject: Moscow BhamBoi (talk) 02:55, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

MO is short name for Moscow Oblast, not for Moscow. Zelenograd is part of Moscow indeed, but both Moscow and Zelenograd are not parts of Moscow Oblast. Alex Spade (talk) 06:56, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Redirects from alternate capitalizations

[edit]

Please note that creating redirects from alternate capitalizations such as VeraCruz VeraCruz is not necessary because Wikipedia's search function automatically redirects readers to alternate capitalizations if no page exists. signed, Rosguill talk 03:23, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that a persistent vandal has been adding less-than-notable newspapers here in the past, so notability has to be carefully enforced. Chamber of commerce listings are not a valid secondary RS. Neither WhatcomWatch nor WhatcomTalk seem to be notable enough to be listed based on a search of their mentions in regional newspapers or other established news sources. SounderBruce 01:32, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think of adding this paragraph?
There are multiple news outlets associated with Western Washington University, including The Front (formerly The Western Front), Western’s official newspaper covering city-wide news,[1] Western Today, a source for official campus news operated by the Office of University Communications,[2] Window: The Magazine of Western Washington University (usually just Window Magazine or simply Window)[3] a magazine published two to three times a year by the university.[4] It won multiple silver and bronze CASE Circle of Excellence awards in 2019.[5] Klipsun is a quarterly student magazine.[6]

Okay. Only one of those was added by me, but I thought it would be nice to include both. Thanks for your response, I see now. BhamBoi (talk) 01:47, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Probably excessive for the city article, but fine for the university's article. The section is meant to be a summary of what media outlets are generally used by local residents, and I don't think a quarterly magazine or the campus news website are a high priority. The sources used are also still too closely associated with the subject. SounderBruce 02:36, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi BhamBoi! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Judy Fierstein that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. IPBE request

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

BhamBoi (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I would like to request to be IP Block Exempted. IPBE states I can use this template to request. Every time I try to edit from my phone on Safari, I can’t because of Private Relay. It is really inconvenient to switch to another browser every time I want to edit on mobile, and I am in good standing and have a constructive edit record. From IPEC: "the editor agrees never to misuse the exemption to edit through a blocked anonymizing proxy (this may be checked)" I agree, I only want to edit from mobile without switching from my main browser, as I enjoy the privacy benefits from Private Relay. From IPEC: Who may request: A user affected by an IP address block that is unrelated to their editing and that prevents them editing with a logged-in account. This describes my issue. Thanks!

Decline reason:

I could grant you IPBE this way, but ... the accepted procedure for this now is that you go to WP:IPECPROXY and formally request it via the procedures there (you can do this through email). — Daniel Case (talk) 06:37, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@Daniel Case: If you are an Admin, could you edit the nutshell on the WP:IPBE page? Thanks for your response! BhamBoi (talk) 14:32, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why the "in a nutshell" box would need changing: Apple Private Relay is an anonymising proxy, and both the full policy and the summary direct such requests to the CheckUser queue. --Blablubbs (talk) 14:40, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The part about using the unblock template to request… Or can you still do that for other IPBEs? BhamBoi (talk) 14:44, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For "regular" IPBE, that's still a viable option in some cases, although WP:IPEC technically instructs users to use WP:UTRS instead. --Blablubbs (talk) 14:46, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't create useless redirects that should be articles

[edit]

Hi BhamBoi, I notice I'm not the first one to complain about redirects you made. Pretty please, don't create redirects like Culture of Yugoslavia/Yugoslavian culture, Religion of Yugoslavia/Yugoslavian religion, Society of Yugoslavia/Yugoslavian society, and any future such redirects that, first of all, redirect to no specific section touching on the topic on article Yugoslavia, so they're completely useless. Such redirects deceive both readers (that will expect to read something about each subject) and editors (that articles on these subjects already exist). I'll be nominating these for deletion later, to see whether you create more of them. –Vipz (talk) 04:27, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, noted. I can redirect them to more applicable sections and tag them as "with possibilities" if you'd like. I figured it'd be fine as there are existing redirects for the similar History, Government, People, Politics, and Demographics of Yugoslavia but I guess these were too much. I can request deletion by author if you really think they should go. BhamBoi (talk) 04:34, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Requested deletion of all but Religion, which I moved to #Demographics and tagged for possibilities. @Vipz do you think I should request those two be deleted or let them stay as-is? BhamBoi (talk) 04:52, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BhamBoi: thank you for being considerate and sorry if the request was kind of confrontational on the outlook. Government of Yugoslavia and Politics of Yugoslavia have identical problems. Most of these have no section on article Yugoslavia to redirect to at the moment. While History of Yugoslavia also doesn't, it is required to still exist to preserve attribution after a merge. #Demographics section as a target for Religion of Yugoslavia is a borderline case in my opinion, and I'd rather have these deleted too (with intention to have full articles at some point in the future, as indicated by red links on my userpage), but feel free to judge yourself. –Vipz (talk) 04:56, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll request them. If need be, someone else uninvolved can swoop back in and recreate if they deem them useful. BhamBoi (talk) 04:58, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chantal Da Silva moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Chantal Da Silva, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe, and currently doesn't have any, as all appear to be primary or unreliable sources. Facebook should never be used as a source. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:49, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah… I really tried with that one, but I was not very proud of my work after I had published it. I really do think she's notable for her journalism work, but sources are hard to come by. The incoming links should show the amount of times her news is cited, but that doesn't confer notability by itself. BhamBoi (talk) 15:45, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Grace Wang (academic). Thanks! Marshelec (talk) 08:37, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I have a reply to some of your comments:
Social media should not be used as sources.
The year of birth/age in the infobox (from an age as at date template) must be supported by an inline citation.
  • I will add a ref tag to the age at date field.
Finally, it is not clear to me that the current version of the draft article demonstrates how the subject meets the high expectations for notability of academics set out in WP:NPROF...
  • I think it's borderline. A tenured Full Prof. does not in itself confer notability, but shows that the university sees some value in her work. NPROF 7a states "Criterion 7 may be satisfied, for example, if the person is frequently quoted in conventional media as an academic expert in a particular area. A small number of quotations, especially in local news media, is not unexpected for academics and so falls short of this mark." Being quoted in PBS NewsHour is definitely not "local news media" and being quoted as an expert in high-quality national news is definitely an honor, but it's among the only news quotations I found.

Hello! I noticed you created this redirect a few months ago, and I was curious what the "(identifier)" disambiguator was intended to represent in the title? There may be sufficient context that I could be missing. Thank you. Utopes (talk / cont) 06:03, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! This is linked by the template Template:University of Twente Pure, in which you need the identifier suffix to link through. Similar to how in doi:10.example, the link on "doi" routes through an "(identifier)" link. This is required on external ID templates. Thanks for reaching out! BhamBoi (talk) 16:25, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The doi template links to a page called Doi (identifier) because Doi is a disambiguation page. I've looked through a few templates that use external IDs and the only times any use a link to an "(identifier)", is when there is a conflict with other similar titles, or if the identifier itself is discussed at the target page, so the "(identifier)" specifies this discrepancy as well as the section the redirect applies to. Pure BIB is not mentioned at all at the redirect's current target. Utopes (talk / cont) 03:33, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I would like to point out that the reason this is required (please read the text in Template:R from citation identifier) is that without the (identifier) suffix, incoming links from template transclusions will clutter the "What Links Here" page; this practice is not something I made up. Additionally, it is used in non-ambiguous identifier names, such as Template:PMID linking through PMID (identifier). The point you mention about the bibliographic database not being mentioned at the target is fair, and I will add info about it to the target, and then all should be resolved. Cheers, BhamBoi (talk) 05:09, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I have also replied at the RfD. BhamBoi (talk) 05:09, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely an error because I know better. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. BhamBoi (talk) 19:39, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
