I undid most of your edit to the Saul Perlmutter article. The information you added is private and we'd need a public source for it to have it in Wikipedia. If you have a source (that is not simply an echo of a past Wikipedia page) please re-make your edit and cite your source. Thanks —Quantling (talk | contribs) 14:27, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Never mind. I found a public source here. I have restored your edits. Apologies —Quantling (talk | contribs) 14:56, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Underclass POY templates

I left a note at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_American_football#American_high_school_football_underclass_POY_templates. I see you created all of these templates and have not updated them. Also, no one agrees with me that we should create similar templates for basketball. Would you care to comment at Wikipedia_talk:BBALL#High_School_basketball_underclass_POY_templates.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 18:12, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Did you say Rivals 2013 or did you mean 2012? Also, did you have any thoughts on the basketball templates?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 18:54, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I said 2013. The class of 2013 just finished its junior season of high school football. As for the basketball templates: I'm not in favor of that. Actually, it might even be a good idea to delete some of the football templates. At least the ESPN templates. --bender235 (talk) 18:58, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

You should get someone to fix the dictionary on that thing. The English Wikipedia no longer uses "Honshū" to refer to the island. Our article is at Honshu.—Ryulong (竜龙) 19:07, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Help with editing

I am not sure if you can help me. I am looking for a couple of people to help me complete User:Sportsfan5000/Adam Windsor - I have been advised by am administrator that I should try and find a couple of good people to colaborate on this article with me as it had been deleted before. I am not great with wikipedia so any help you can give me would be great. If you can't help me though, maybe you know someone that could? It just needs a bit of work on formatting and maybe a few citations, but from my perpective it looks just about ready to go. Insurance fraud

Hi, I've reverted this edit of yours. For some weird reason, the Bibliography section (which you renamed Further reading) contains <ref>...</ref>-style references, so the {{reflist}} must be after those. I can't work out why the article uses this style at all. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:19, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Gabe Carimi

Made some edits to Gabe Carimi User Epeefleche is really giving me a hard time. I see you had some disputes with him earlier about this page. Possible you can help a newer editor out? He is very defensive about this page for some reason. I even did what he wanted and tried to expand the page and now he's reverting my changes. Thanks. If not, thanks anyways! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.89.61.218 (talk) 22:25, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

I'll go find a source. But anyhow, "center" is not an official category at the combine, which means Molk can't be the best bench-pressing center. It's only "offensive lineman". --bender235 (talk) 18:11, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
I found a source. However, each participant declares a position. These are reported online since 2005. You can look it up and I have a WP:RS.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 18:17, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes, you're right. Just saw it on NFL.com, they divide the categories (OL, DL, LB, etc.) in subcategories (T, G, C, etc.). Problem solved. --bender235 (talk) 18:36, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
See Mike Martin (defensive lineman) combine results. Can be important to subdivide.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:19, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
Please add source to fourth ranked Center on David Molk.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:19, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
The source is NFL.com's combine page, but it's not possible to link directly. Select players by position, then list OL only, and than sort them by grade. If you go thru the list you can see that Molk is the No. 4 center. --bender235 (talk) 20:27, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
I reffed it accordingly.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:57, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Charon's obol

The article Charon's obol you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Charon's obol for things which need to be addressed..

Early years/high school career

"Early years" is just something i've used for years after I saw a few editors use it. I believe User:Eagles247 and User:Giants27 still use it. I don't think there has been a formal discussion about it. Personally I just think it makes sense to say "early years" since info in that section is not always about high school. For example on DeCastro's page it says he is of South African decent which has really nothing to do with high school. I'll admit it was a pretty petty edit on my part.--Yankees10 21:52, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Bender, I just stumbled across this discussion by accident. Part of the logic for calling this section "early years" is that we need a convenient place to state the subject's birthplace, which clearly has nothing to do with calling the section "high school career." (Per WP:MOS, the birthplace is not supposed to appear in the birth date parenthetical in the lead sentence.) To my way of thinking, there is a somewhat serious question whether a high school athlete's participation in amateur high school sports should be termed a "career." The section is also a logical and natural place to stick personal and family background, rather than creating a separate one or two-sentence section called "personal" or some such thing illogically and non-chronologically placed at the end of the article. Usually, placing most early years personal background in an "early years" section helps to maintain the preferred chronological flow of the article. There is no magic to using the words "early life" or "early years," but "high school career" or "high school years" is generally not broad enough to cover all of the information in a well-written sports bio. Hope this helps. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 00:01, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Morris Claiborne

Sourced opinion is still opinion and does not belong in articles. Even if it did, your edit claims "many" yet you provide only one reference. You are welcome to initiate a BRD discussion on the merits, but the fact of the matter is that Claiborne is a former, not current, LSU player, and that he is a prospect in the draft. You claim your reference is sourced, however, it is still a reference to an opinion, just like a reference to whether Howard Stern likes cherry ice cream in a blog is sourced, and is not permissible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dkendr (talkcontribs)

This is, of course, wrong. Wikipedia includes thousands of opinions (rather than just facts). Let me name some examples: the description on Citizen Kane includes "many film critics consider Citizen Kane to be the greatest film ever made", which obviously is an opinion, not a fact derived from research. The biographical article of John Maynard Keynes includes "Keynes is widely considered [...] to be the most influential economist of the 20th century," which, again, is an opinion, not a fact. There are thousands of other examples, Morris Claiborne's draft prospects is just one of many. --bender235 (talk) 19:06, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Robert Calloway

His name spelling on NFL.com is incorrect. Photos of him from Lions training camp show that his name is spelled Calloway, and the official Cowboys site also has Calloway. Please move the page back to Calloway. RevanFan (talk) 22:34, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Well, there are two versions: Callaway and Calloway. Please tell me how you know which one is correct. --bender235 (talk) 22:36, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
I just did in the above post. Photos of him from Lions camp, and the Cowboys site. The photos alone are enough, because only the correct spelling of the name is used on a jersey or helmet. Plus, the names used on NFL.com are not always reliable. Ask Eagles247. Must I find the photos for you? RevanFan (talk) 22:43, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
I fail to understand why a training camp jersey disproves his college bio, his ESPN Draft bio, his Lions bio, and his NFL.com profile. Is there any reliable source that explicitly corrects Callaway as misspelling (I'm not asking for any photo here, just so you know)?
JFYI: I am familar with cases like this. --bender235 (talk) 22:49, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
His Cowboys bio. Also, on many articles on DallasNews and ESPN he is called Calloway, as well as in the Lions 2011 media guide on NFL.com. It seems that many sites say Callaway, and many others say Calloway. I'd say go with the Cowboys site and the Lions official media guide. RevanFan (talk) 23:15, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but that isn't convincing at all. It could just as well be Cowboys.com and the Lions Media Guide that spelled his name wrong. This is basically 50-50, but I see NFL.com as kind of a tie-breaker here. --bender235 (talk) 23:25, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
BTW, since we were talking name spelling on jerseys [1]... --bender235 (talk) 23:32, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
All right. We'll keep it Callaway, unless his jersey says Calloway this preseason. This is getting confusing. Sorry for the trouble. RevanFan (talk) 23:41, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Okay. We'll see what the jersey says. --bender235 (talk) 23:43, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. --bender235 (talk) 11:24, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Sonny Liston's Year of Birth

Regarding your recent Edit Warring over this - you can't cherry pick a handful of sources while ignoring others and assume it was "somewhere between 1928 and 32", especially when one of these same sources states he testified before the Senate, saying he was born in 1933, and there is other speculation (from The Devil and Sonny Liston) of arrest records showing it as early as 1927. In the future, please refrain from inserting a random date range based on your own original research. Remember that this is an encyclopedia. Let's try to avoid printing speculations and/or our own snythesis of published material to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources (WP:SYN). Thanks. --Yankees76 Talk 17:54, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Then, please, expand the range to 1927-1930. It's just outright stupid to label his DOB "unknown", because it is not totally unknown. We can, for example, say with 100% certainty that he was not born in 1850, or 1960. So what the hell is wrong with narrowing that "unknown" to a more or less specific time frame? --bender235 (talk) 17:58, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I came to see the reply in the message just above, but I thought it would be good to comment here. Bender is correct in using "circa". Not sure on the date you should use, but saying something like born 1927-1933 or just saying c. 1930 are appropriate. Whatever the dates, go with what the various sources list.
Also, it usually takes two to edit war. One of you should have said lets discuss on a talk page without reverting. Both of you were edit warring. Bgwhite (talk) 18:33, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
So Bender you have a complete list of reliable sources for Sonny Liston's possible birth years? You state "the range is known" in your edit summary and yet just a few hours ago, you were using sources for 1928 to 1932 without actually having read the secondary sources you were quoting and were completely unaware of the source claiming evidence that it could be 1927. It's not only inappropriate to quote sources without having actually read them, but it's also inappropriate to force edits without reaching a consensus. Note that you've been reverted by multiple editors in this case, and there already exists a discussion on the Talk page[2].
User talk:Bgwhite "Circa" may not be correct here because the dates will always be original research "Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources." Because one source says it could be 1928 or 1932 and another says 1927, and a third says it might be 1933 does not make Liston's date of of birth between 1927 and 1933.
This discussion should be occurring on the articles talk page before continue to press this unsourced position. --Yankees76 Talk 19:27, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Further to the above, I've started a discussion on the talk page.[3]. Let's reach a consensus on this before making further edits to that portion of the article. I've proposed Bgwhite's suggestion above, along with Unknown as it stands now. Please feel free to add your own input. Cheers. --Yankees76 Talk 20:32, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to exercise your ownership over the Sonny Liston article, and stop bothering me with that stuff. I don't care anymore. --bender235 (talk) 22:16, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
And you feel free to keep on assuming good faith - Wikipedia really needs good editors who know how to work well with others. --Yankees76 Talk 22:33, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I tried to articulate my point, but you wouldn't listen. There is simply a difference between saying someone "was born sometime between X and Y", and "completely unknown". Even if 1927-1933 would be too narrow in your opinion, we could list "1920s/30s" as DOB range. But at least list something instead of unknown. --bender235 (talk) 22:36, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Again please WP:AGF (this isn't hard).
I was listening, but in my opinion the range of dates that was added was simply not accurate or complete which didn't make them suitable for inclusion into the article without a consensus. He was born somewhere between 1928 and 32 is wrong and is your own original research (as was proven).
Remember you reverted two different editors without discussing your changes on the article talk page (you actually removed the note which specifically asked you to achieve consensus on the talk page before changing the date from "Unknown".[4]). A little collaboration goes a long way. --Yankees76 Talk 22:56, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Bender, I think you are being too hard on Yankees. Yankees, you also reverted multiple times without leaving a note on Bender's talk page. Both you have some blame in the matter. However, if Yankees is in reference to New York, well Yankees had it coming :). A range of birth dates is known and saying "unknown" is simply wrong. On the talk page, Yankees did agree on using circa. Bgwhite (talk) 23:00, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Ultimately I felt that Bender was going against a previous consensus (hence the note for other editors that was placed in the article at the time). As TheShadowCrow had already reverted him citing that note[5], continued insistence of going against the previously established consensus warranted reverting 3 times (3RR is not more than 3 in 24 hours). I would still argue that Unknown is not wrong, as technically even the range of Liston's possible birth years is up for serious debate, however circa or c.1932 or c. 1930 or c.1928 is preferable. Plus, as this single item is the most edited of the entire article, having an additional second consensus can only help. And the Sox suck by the way ;) --Yankees76 Talk 23:50, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

I did your technical move request, Asia Muhammed -> Asia Muhammad, based on the LA Times article giving the -ad spelling of her name, which agrees with how she spells her name in her Twitter account. The name 'Muhammed' still occurs in the article. Do you want to try fixing those spellings, if it's justified? I see that a couple of sources still use the -ed spelling. Furstenberg

Dear Bender235,

According to the history of the page about Fürstenberg's proof of the infinitude of primes you introduced the umlaut into title of the page.

Unfortunately I must request you to reverse this change and to remove the umlaut from Furstenburg's name throughout the article. The reason for this is that Furstenburg does not use the umlaut in his name. I believe that his family did use the umlaut in the past (and it is certainly the standard spelling in Germany), but he has used Furstenburg without the umlaut in all of his mathematical publications, in particular in the article which contains his proof of the infinitude of primes.

Here is a link to JSTOR where the original article can be viewed:

http://www.jstor.org/stable/2307043?origin=crossref&

In case you don't have access to JSTOR (my university pays a lot for this access!) here are some other links to articles by Furstenberg where you can see how he spells his name:

http://www.springerlink.com/content/r577780888266838/

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0012365X89900897

http://www.ams.org/journals/bull/1986-14-02/S0273-0979-1986-15438-8/home.html

I am asking you to do this rather than simply doing the job myself, because it involves changing the name of an article and probably rearranging a number of cross references in Wikipedia. I have made straightforward changes within articles, but have not attempted anything of this complexity. You are obviously an experienced Wikipedia editor and I think better qualified than I am to do the job.

Best regards, Keith Burns

The article Jason Slowey has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NGRIDIRON as he hasn't played a professional game. Being drafted is a single event and must show notability before being drafted. Unable to find references outside of primary sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Barrett Jones

Hey, Bender. Can you double-check the status of Barrett Jones as an undrafted free agent? He was a junior during the 2011 football season, and he still had a year of remaining NCAA eligibility. Moreover, the 2012 NFL Draft Wikipedia article does not list him as an eligible underclassmen for the 2012 draft. Am I missing something here? I can't find anything on line saying that he had declared for the 2012 draft . . . . Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:48, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

You're right. I made a mistake there. Thank you for pointing this out. --bender235 (talk) 18:52, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

"of course he hasn't played an NFL game yet, but he's obviously about to. No reason to delete the article now and recreate it in September"

Um, ya right. ~1/2 of the 6th round draft choices didn't play a game last year. Have you heard of Zachary Williams, Lawrence Wilson, Ross Homan, Rick Elmore or Keith Williams, to name a few? They were drafted last year in the 6th round haven't played a game. Some didn't even make the team. Wikipedia is not WP:CRYSTAL. Bgwhite (talk) 05:30, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

True, but let's at least keep it for now. You can still delete it should Slowey be cut by the 49ers before the season, w/out ever playing an NFL game. --bender235 (talk) 09:55, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of DaBryan Blanton for deletion

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/DaBryan Blanton until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Bgwhite (talk) 21:17, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

It may seem I'm out to get you or have a beef with you. I look at all incoming BLPs and alot of dead ones too. So, I'm not specifically looking at any of your articles. You do alot of good work and I have noticed you create alot of new articles. We disagree on a few things, but in no way do I have any ill or bad feelings toward you or your articles. If you have any problems with me, please tell so we can work it out. Bgwhite (talk) 22:06, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
I didn't take this as a personal insult or something. Don't worry about that. I'd like to see whether Blanton meets notability criteria, too. There are a lot of other athletes where I wasn't sure. If they won an international title, the case is clear, but sometimes they "only" held some record. Davonte Stewart and Aaron Ernest are similar cases, which I already created. Basically in preparation for the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics. --bender235 (talk) 22:24, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Karen David's DOB

I have emailed you on here, regarding Karen David's wikipedia page. Gemmamerritt (talk) 08:01, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

I reply here, because there's no reason this shouldn't be public.
From your email: "... I removed [the DOB] on behalf of Karen David herself."
Well first of all, Wikipedia is not censored, particularly not on personal request by the article's subject. Second, and even more important: her DOB can already be looked up everywhere on the internet (e.g., BBC One), which makes it completely pointless to censor Wikipedia.
"Is there an email address which I can pass onto Karen herself in order for her to explain the issue of having her birthdate included on her wikipedia page?"
Well, technically there is, please see WP:OTRSN. But, like I said, I don't see the point of censoring information that has already been "disclosed". --bender235 (talk) 11:50, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

SCOTUS article ledes

I reverted part of your recent edit to Southland Corp. v. Stipe Miocic unwarranted warning

I made a slight grammar edit to the summary section of Stipe Miocic's wikipedia. The edit in question is: from "an Croatian American" to "a Croatian American" only to receive a warning for what i perceived to be a warranted correction.

Prior to my edit i came across a very odd thing: A argument in the edit section. I screen captioned this and uploaded it to [6](reddit) due to its rarity.

At the time of the edit i was unregistered but decided to register an account in order to dispute this.

Non-free rationale for File:Sebastian-haffner book-cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sebastian-haffner book-cover.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:51, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Hello Bender235. Can you tell me your source for the name Nigel Amos. I find nothing about it on the web and the IAAF gives Nijel Amos. Thank you. --Selligpau (talk) 16:13, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that your post to MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist got picked up by the edit filter. To answer your question, it is a browser plug-in gone crazy. Some kind of adware/malware that editors are not aware that they have installed. It appears to be a part of the AdMedia/intextual.com network. One of the plug-ins that has been pointed out to me as a possible culprit is called Click 2 Save. See User talk:Hydra Rain#intextual.com markup -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:08, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. Maybe we should add this information to the Edit Warning that appears regarding those inline links. --bender235 (talk) 11:59, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Maybe, but not yet. I'm still not 100% sure that it is the culprit. If the edits continue, I think I'm going to propose setting the filter to disallow the edit instead of warn. Fixing the articles after the plug-in makes a huge mess is becoming tedious and I see no reason to allow them into the articles. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:47, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
I agree. --bender235 (talk) 12:29, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Capitalization

"NBA champion" is correct. "NBA Finals" is a specific event, and "NBA Most Valuable Player" is a specific award. But "NBA champion" is just a description. It's subtle, but books and newspapers don't typically capitalize "NBA champion". I can provide some examples, if you want. Zagalejo^^^ 02:04, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Matt Kalil

You said, "it doesn't matter what it [his weight] is based on. We use NFL.com information on EVERY Wikipedia NFL bio. So goes for Kalil what goes for everybody."

Which is another way to say, "I don't care what the truth is.. If NFL.com has him listed at 796 lbs, that's what I'll put on the article".

Yes, because "But it's true!" has never been an accepted argument on Wikipedia. --bender235 (talk) 15:01, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Please stop speaking for the Wikipedia community as you have no authority to do so. (This includes your comments below, as well.) Speak for yourself only. I never used the "But it's true!" argument. I used a current and accurate source. RackDaddy (talk)

The entire premise of Wikipedia is to provide accurate, and up-to-date information using a reliable source. At present (prior to the start of the season), the Minnesota Vikings should know the actual weight of their players -- certainly their #1 draft pick -- more accurately than what the NFL lists as a weight seen months ago at the combine. It is the most current information, and should be reported as such. If an NFL player dies, do we have to wait until NFL.com reports it to update the players status? I don't think so..

RackDaddy (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 12:06, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, we use the most current information. But in case of conflicting information, we have to choose the more trustworthy source. Because what tells you that the Vikings page meassurement is more accurate? Per rule of thumb, we use NFL.com data for football players, ALL football players. And NBA.com data for basketball players. All of them. --bender235 (talk) 15:01, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
The most trustworthy source is subjective; at least when one is the league site and the other is the team site. What tells me the Vikings page is more accurate? Common sense; using the information I already explained (twice). Where is your "rule of thumb" posted that only stats from NFL.com is used? RackDaddy (talk)
I'm just telling you how we used to do it one Wikipedia over the past couple of years. --bender235 (talk) 14:10, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Since the arrest has caused the young man to be suspended for at least one game, and possibly face more disciplinary action by the team and/or the NCAA it just seemed a better "fit" under career.
