Hi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:EvergreenFir‬, Compliments of the season. It has been three years since you blocked me indefinitely on Wikipedia. I am unable to contribute or scrutinize the things that are written about Etche my ethnic group and indigenous communities. While some efforts were taken by Wikipedia to remove the claims of Igbos that my ethnic group is a sub of theirs, as of December 17, 2023, a user has gone back to edit the page again and added that my people are Igbos. Please kindly revert the article to its previous version. Etche people are not Igbos and Igbos are not Etche people. I am not asking for anything more than this.

Thank you!

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  EvergreenFir (talk) 19:59, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I sent a complaint to Administrator @MelanieN about continued vandalism of my ethnic group's history on Wikipedia. While @MelaniaN and were working on best ways to address the issue, including guides on where to make my argument and what supporting evidence I need to provide, another user by name @EvergreenFir jumps in from nowhere and blocks me indefinitely. Is this how Wikipedia works? So I cannot file a complaint, or advocate for my people? BasilOluo (talk) 16:19, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

No. I want to be very clear, Wikipedia is not the place for you to advocate for your people. See WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. And no, accusing Wikipedia of enabling terrorism, that's completely inappropriate. Yamla (talk) 16:22, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This is an Encyclopedia and not a place for groups or individuals to engage in stump speaking their agenda, sorry. - FlightTime (open channel) 16:34, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. What then is the appropriate thing to do when some users are continuously editing my ethnic group's page to read that we are subordinates of theirs and Wikipedia protects the page to reflect that view, even after confirming that that group has no proof to show that my entire ethnicity should in fact be regarded as their subordinates? I would love to know what to do. My people have continued to suffer this egregious oppression over years. Some days we wake up to them marching around our communities chanting offensive slurs and declaring that our lands and people belong to them. Should a human belong to another human?

My only request has been that we are humans and that we should not be described as subordinates of another. Don't we have a right to just exist as us? I followed every instruction Admin. MelanieN gave me, which included providing documentary evidence. I would love to what else or what next to do. This is the only advocacy I am talking about.

Anyone who knows the appropriate, or the most appropriate way to address this issue should kindly let me know. Thank you. BasilOluo (talk) 16:41, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia isn't the place for this. Again, WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS covers this. Instead, you accused Wikipedia of supporting terrorism. You are too close to the injustice, I'm afraid. That's okay, you can continue your advocacy, just not here on Wikipedia. --Yamla (talk) 16:45, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So it is ok for Wikipedia to approve and protect a narrative that describes my people as subordinates? BasilOluo (talk) 17:39, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

One more time: WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. If after reading that, you have specific questions about that explanation, I will be happy to answer them. But if you are just here to continue rehashing your claims that Wikipedia endorses terrorism and suchlike, this is the end of the road. I will lock down this talk page and (sincerely) wish you luck in righting the wrongs done to you and your people. But you won't be using Wikipedia to do this. --Yamla (talk) 17:43, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yamla, I have already done the things prescribed in RIGHTGREATWRONGS - I have provided links to articles published on leading media organizations in Nigeria and one continental publication. These are the things Admin MelanieN advised that I do. If you want, I can reproduce those here. This is why I am asking what next I need to do. BasilOluo (talk) 17:52, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You've also repeatedly accused Wikipedia of endorsing terrorism. The best path forward for you to be unblocked is to file an unblock request and voluntarily suggest a topic ban around this subject area. Tell us what other subject areas you'd write about. Also explain how you would resolve disputes in the future (see WP:DISPUTE). That's not the only path forward for you, but it's the one most likely to result in your block being lifted. --Yamla (talk) 18:05, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yamla, thank you for your advise, but lets not relegate or ignore the original complaint. My being blocked is secondary and I will follow your advise to get unblocked. However, the real issue here is the first line on the Page "Etche". That line describes my people as subordinates of another group and that is what I want removed. The rest of the content is fine. I am quoted on that page, so when my people read that first line that continues this narrative that we are slaves to the Igbos and later on see that I (as a community leader) am quoted therein, it appears to the public that I not only endorsed that cruel first line, but also helped author it.

Since it has been confirmed that these people should not be referring to us as their subordinates; since I have provided published evidence, can an Admin change the first line to read "Etche is an ethnic group in present day Nigeria", instead of the one that describes us as subs of Igbos? We are not their subs, they are not our subs. They are humans and should exist as humans. We are humans and should exist as humans, too. This is all I am asking for.

Thank you!BasilOluo (talk) 18:25, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You are still trying to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. If you are unwilling to relegate or ignore the original complaint, you are explicitly still engaged in WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. This is what lead to your block. Yes, it sucks that the article is how it is, but there are literally millions of other articles which also need improvement. Ignore that article. Stop thinking about it. If you can't, Wikipedia isn't the place for you. Again, that's okay. It's quite reasonable for you to want to right great wrongs. After all, that's how social progress works! But Wikipedia isn't the right venue for it. In the same way that Wikipedia isn't the right venue for me to learn how to cook a tasty meal. You can and should try to make the world a better place, but Wikipedia isn't where you do that. --Yamla (talk) 18:31, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
