[edit]Thanks for creating this page ... I agree that discussion of these issues somewhere on the English Wikipedia would be a good thing. I'm not sure if there's enough here to spark discussion yet, but I'm looking forward to your future posts. User:Xeno (WMF) filled in some "here's where we are" details in response to my question at User talk:Xeno_(WMF)#UCOC in late April, FWIW. - Dank (push to talk) 19:29, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- Dank/Barkeep49: My thought was to launch a local RFC around this announcement by Stella. Thoughts? Xeno (WMF) (talk) 19:35, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- If there's going to be an RfC, my main interest is going to be what it says about what kinds of "affirmation" are required. I've seen a wide range of options, including the ones you mentioned on your talk page. Some options might work; some certainly won't. - Dank (push to talk) 20:10, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- The question now is phrased like so:
- If there's going to be an RfC, my main interest is going to be what it says about what kinds of "affirmation" are required. I've seen a wide range of options, including the ones you mentioned on your talk page. Some options might work; some certainly won't. - Dank (push to talk) 20:10, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
“ | While every user of Wikimedia platforms agrees to abide by the Terms of Use with each edit, the drafters' intent here was to meet a perceived need to ensure that those in positions of governance understand and follow the UCoC (or the local project rules going beyond it) in their own behavior as well as any governance actions they take related to conduct. Some have voiced concerns with the present language. What are the pros and cons of this affirmation and how can it be best stated to strengthen volunteer community self-governance? | ” |
- Do you feel that meets the needs for having this discussion, or should additional questions be added? Xeno (WMF) (talk) 20:27, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Dank thanks for your comments. My intent here is not to supplant any kind of formal consultations that Xeno and other people in the WMF movement strategy team are doing. My intent is instead to highlight certain topics that are being discussed. If there is feedback from that, great and if there's not that's OK too as it can instead just inform comments during formal consultations. As Wikipedians transparency is a goal of ours and this is my contribution towards that effort. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 22:15, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- Understood, and thanks for saying that ... I get it. I was working on a reply ... anyone have an objection if I post my reply in the WP:AN thread that got us here? - Dank (push to talk) 22:27, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, my partner and I have been talking today about what I might post at WP:AN that would do no harm, and we've got nothing. Xeno, I'll go continue my thread from April on your talk page, that's probably more prudent. - Dank (push to talk) 19:50, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
