Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Italian language, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lingua Franca. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

If you haven't got anything new to say, don't edit the article on Galileo. I want new quotations from the Vatican files or new remarks about the theory of relativity or the like. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.178.77.25 (talk) 12:43, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Italian Neoclassical and 19th-century art, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bellini (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

I don't see that rewording as an improvement, since the reader has no idea what Dogali was. In the original wording, it was clear that Dogali was a battle between Italy and Ethiopia and the latter won. I don't see the problem you see in this sentence:

From early in the "scramble", Italy had designs on the Ethiopian Empire, but was twice defeated in the 19th century: first at the Battle of Dogali in 1887 and then in the first invasion of Ethiopia in 1895–96.

It is clear that Dogali wasn't an invasion of Ethiopia, since the 1895 invasion is described as the first. Do you think that Italian expansion in Eritrea was not intended at the expense of Ethiopia even before Dogali? Srnec (talk) 22:32, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

I think it makes more sense how it's worded right now. The Battle of Dogali was a strategic attack of the Ethiopians in an area occupied by Italy, so that battle was not really wanted by Italy (which the word "designs" suggest). The invasion on the other hand was part of a design to annex Ethiopia. Barjimoa (talk) 23:52, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Charles V grandparents reverting

Hi. In an edit from about a month ago, I modified the intro of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor to move details about Charles's ancestry into the body (namely, the names of his grandparents, and the houses of his parents). Since then you have twice gone back to the previous wording Born in Flanders to Philip the Handsome of the Austrian House of Habsburg (son of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor and Mary of Burgundy) and Joanna the Mad of the Spanish House of Trastamara (daughter of Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon)... without mentioning it in the edit summary or giving any explanation why. If you disagree with me about this being excessive detail, please let's discuss it on the talk page of the article. Colin M (talk) 16:53, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Military strength indicator

Hello,

When you added the table https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Military&diff=prev&oldid=868050475 you wrote ('000) under "Active personnel". I can't find any explanations on the meaning of it. I thought it could mean you have to add three 0 when you read the column, but it doesn't work (Germany doesn't have 29 000 soldiers but much more for instance). What does it mean ? Elfast (talk) 20:57, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Elfast, I moved it there from another page so i don't prefectly remember. If i remember correctly the source it was saying USA = 900k active personell, Germany = 290k active personell, and so on. But i am not 100% positive. Barjimoa (talk) 08:05, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
Okay. It can't be. As I said Germany has much more active active personel. It's even more obvious for China, where there are 2,035,000 active personnel (2019). Elfast (talk) 15:43, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

New article looks good! I'd suggest to be sure you're putting in citations as much as you can, and then to put a proposal to replace the old article with your article on the talk page. And then if nobody responds (I'll agree with you! Just message me!), BE BOLD and do it. john k (talk) 23:42, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi, you moved page Karl V to Karl V (opera) over redirect in 2019. Did you see the message "You are responsible for making sure that links continue to point where they are supposed to go"? I have updated the 18 pages (ignoring archived pages) which should link to the opera rather than the person. If you have changed any other redirects, please could you check that you have updated pages linked to them as appropriate. TSventon (talk) 17:22, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Italica

Please don't change referenced content. Italica was founded by Scipio at the end of the third century B.C. and became a municipium under Julius Caesar. Hadrian made him a colonia, and under him it became one of the largest cities of Spain. Before him it was little more than a village. This is referenced in the source which I added (Syme, 1964). I could find nowhere that Italica was settled by Italics, but if you have a source please add this information and go ahead, otherwise it is OR. Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 06:48, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

Very good! And, remember (altough you are an experienced editor, and I should not tell you that): we work with sources (and Ronald Syme is a very good source). :-) All the rest is OR. This of course is valid also for me and all the other users. Ciao, Alex2006 (talk) 07:08, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
No, I added the information about the municipium, since it is in Syme (1964), p. 144. "Italica, founded by Scipio in 206 A.C. and given the status of a municipium by Caesar, was a small place." Do you have access at JSTOR? If yes, please read the article. There is plenty of information about the city, Hadrian Trajan and their families. I personally find it very unlikely that the settlement received municipium status at the time of its foundation in 206, because that would imply granting roman citizenship (full or partial) to its inhabitants, but at that time the Italics generally were not supposed to be eligible for it. Clearly mine here is only OR. :-) Alex2006 (talk) 08:22, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
P.S. I remember now that until Caesar no settlement outside Italy ever got the status of municipium. He was the first to give this status to settlements in the provinces. Alex2006 (talk) 08:28, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

Ancestry section

Greetings, I have seen your many edits on the article Charles V, and could use your help. Charles V’s descendant’s article, Maximilian I of Mexico, is being targeted for an unknown reason and the ancestry section is being repeatedly deleted (on the talk page they say no sources show a genealogical tree and trees should be deleted) However, I have given three sources that show his ancestry and the very reason the Archduke was chosen as Mexican emperor was his ancestry. The overwhelming majority of articles on royals throughout Europe and elsewhere have their ancestry charts intact. The articles for Elizabeth II, George VI of the United Kingdom, Louis XV, Maria Theresa of Spain, Elisabeth of France, Mary of Teck, Franz Joseph I of Austria, Archduke Franz Karl of Austria, Charles V, etc. all have them! Is it justified that all those, including his wife, have ancestry charts, but his chart is deleted?

Just thought I’d ask for help, if not, thanks for your time. CMD007 (talk) 02:40, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Edit at Traia gens

Hi! I thought I'd ask about this edit that you made to Traia gens. The list of members was in alphabetical order, since the majority of inscriptions could not be securely dated. Thus "Traia" (with no cognomen) would go before anyone named "Traius", and "Gaius Traius" would come before "Marcus Traius". Since there is no mention of dates with any of these people, and they are not mentioned in a fixed order from a single inscription, I cannot figure out what the purpose of moving Traia and Gaius Traius after Marcus Traius—and placing Traia third after both of the men—would have been. Can you explain? P Aculeius (talk) 14:15, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

P Aculeius, nevermind, I didnt realize it was inserted in alphabetical order. I was trying to re-write and re-group the whole thing in chronological ans geographical order, but it's messy and probably impossible to do. You can revert it if you want to. Barjimoa (talk) 14:20, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
I imagine it would be difficult to explain geographical order. True, when two people go in the same position alphabetically I might place the one from Rome ahead of the one from Dacia. But beyond that, possibly placing Rome first, then other parts of Italy, I cannot think of a system that would make clear sense to everyone—clockwise around a map of the Empire, beginning with Hispania? I think that a whole list organized this way would make it hard to find people, compared with sorting them by name or date. It might make sense with very large families, but in the case of prominent ones I don't usually include everyone found in epigraphy; it would be impractical, and so I seek out inscriptions only for smaller families, usually with less than a hundred known members including those from inscriptions.
If it helps to know this, my usual practice with these articles is to place anyone mentioned by Roman writers first, and if there are not very many, then to collect them with the others who can be dated in rough chronological order, because there is some value to seeing how a family's prominence or distribution changes through time. Then there is a section for all those persons who cannot be dated—either by the epigraphic entry in the C-S Datenbank, or other factors such as a mention of the consuls, or that the inscription came from Pompeii, and was thus no later than AD 79. However, in this case only one or two of the people in a short list could be dated, so it did not seem to make sense to separate them into their own section. The whole list is alphabetized by cognomen, then praenomen (so people with no cognomen come first). P Aculeius (talk) 16:11, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
P Aculeius , you are doing an outstanding job, keep it as it is, it's fine to me, no worries. Barjimoa (talk) 16:15, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Ammianus

Hello

I saw your edit on Ammianus. Can you provide a source for this? Ammianus often does not use technical terms for things, including offices, so it is entirely possible that he refers to an eastern empire and a western empire, or the same for emperors, or the “parts” of the empire, etc. But that does not mean that there was a formally constituted Eastern Roman Empire (with capital letters), that we then have to treat as a separate state. Possible sockpuppet

I just finished reading the sections map (again) and area (on the discussion page of Spanish Empire)and I realized that LucenseLugo had said on two occasions that he was "agreeing" (in a very "there is a consensus here" way) with Venezia Friulano, a sockpuppet. I don’t know if he was already suspected so I’m just going to show you what I mean. Aside from the following phrases he was seemingly making mainly the same arguments than Venezia Friulano.

Section: map (again)

- During the Iberian Union, Portugal and its colonial territories belonged to the Spanish Habsburg Monarchy (Felipe II, Felipe III, Felipe IV), so I don't find any problem stating that they were territories of the Hispanic Monarchy at that time.
- But more important: It is curious how for the Spanish Empire some want to use a "maximum extension map" instead of an anachronous one despite the fact that the Portuguese Empire, the British Empire or the French colonial Empire (among many others) clearly use anachronous maps.
Very strange, for sure. Venezia Friulano (talk) 13:22, 9 July 2023 (UTC) WP:SOCKSTRIKE TompaDompa (talk) 18:48, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
Woah, you are very right here. I have checked your point and it's true. All of the big European empires have an anachronous map (in my opinion, as it should be) but the anachronous map for the Spanish Empire is object of dispute for some users? Huh, that seems a little bit sketchy. All articles should be treated equally and anachronous maps show the real historical extent of empires.
Anyways, as it is right now, it shouldn't bother anyone. I have written what was part of Portugal because of the Iberian Union, so there are no claims that Spain used to have Cape Verde, Angola or Mozambique. LucenseLugo (talk) 15:34, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
Section: area
What I denounce is that there are veteran users with a lot of free time (aka TompaDompa) who have shielded articles to avoid being edited by other users, which goes against the essence of Wikipedia.Of course the List of the Largest Empires article is stable and old, but because it's an article that can only be edited by TompaDompa. There have been many attempts to edit the article by other users with alternative measurement sources (for the Spanish Empire and for many other Empires), but in this article his only fetish source Taagepera (1997) prevails, unilaterally deleting all those alternative sources that he doesn't like. The article is in fact an article almost just for Taagapera's views, its just surreal. I even thought that Taagepera could be a relative of his, due to the insane obsession with this specific author, eliminating almost everyone else in the academy. This user is already well known, I am just one of many who have denounced his abuse of power. I'm not writing anything new on Wikipedia Venezia Friulano (talk) 12:09, 9 July 2023 (UTC) WP:SOCKSTRIKE TompaDompa (talk) 18:53, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
I completely agree with you. It seems there are certain users who think they have more rights for spending their entire free time on Wikipedia, no sorry but that is reserved for administrators, we are all users and we should be treated equally. But for some, they want to keep their edits prevailing and the ones who dare to change anything face instant reversion or even reports to admins just for having a different vision. It's not fair, we all should be treated equally. LucenseLugo (talk) 14:31, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
Make of it what you will. I believe its clear sockpuppetry. In addition to this, Venezia Friulano seems to be Spanish linguistically at least. Well LucenseLugo has a template declaring he has Spanish as his mother language. So yea.

Reman Empire (talk) 22:56, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

I’m contacting you because you were involved in the discussion. Aside from that I’m also going to tell you that I left a message on the discussion page of the article. I agree that Portuguese territories and other Habsburg possessions should not be included in the article. However I do think that maybe if any territories of what we call the Spanish empire where lost at the time of their territorial peak, then another map, similar to the one on the British empire page, should be used. Anyways should wanted to clarify. Reman Empire (talk) 23:00, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

What is the problem?

Im not a sock of nobody, if you dont believe it just do a report of that

Each time I edit the IP number changes automatically, I dont do that by myself, its just common technolgy system (variable)

I dindt say that Trajan is Turdetani, but Italica was founded in a previous Turdetani town, and the population was formed by intermarriage with native women. This is a well sourced fact, so I dont know the problem, look the sources.46.222.217.76 (talk) 13:52, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

It might be for the best to walk away if a sock starts edit warring with you and simply wait for the site admins to deal with them. I understand its frustrating, believe me, but they're trying to get a reaction out of you. Check out WP:DENY.

TL;DR: Don't interact with them, if they come to your talk page simply undo their messages. The rest of the wiki community has your back, if that's any consolation. Thank you. Deauthorized. (talk) 20:51, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

St Peter's

I have just reverted your edits to the lead, and am letting you know why I have done so.

you left this comment Bernini and Maderno are both Baroque. This church began during the Renaissance and was completed during the Baroque and many changes and original additions were made til the end of construction.
Both these architect/designers worked in the Baroque period. However, Maderno, in constructing the nave, followed the design of his predecessor, Michelangelo. When he came to design the façade, he looked at the giant order that Michelangelo had employed on the rest of the building and he simply went with that, using columns, rather than pilasters. The building is very far from being a great work of Baroque architecture.
On the other hand, Bernini's fitting are truly Baroque, and the colonnade is a Baroque concept. Bernini was probably the first person to understand the tension that Michelangelo set up by encircling the east end with a giant order.

Map about the name of Italy

Hi, I'm writing to you about the map that showed the progressive enlargement of the territory called Italia, which you removed from many articles because it was considered wrong. Following this edit, I found this other map: is this one correct? Hi, LukeWiller (talk) 12:27, 9 August 2024 (UTC).

User:LukeWiller, unfortunately it's also wrong, I don't know why it starts with the territory between Sele and Lao when the first area should be in Calabria. And, since it's a map on the "territory named Italy", by c. 222 BC it should already show all of Italy up to the Alps, excluding the islands. It confuses Caesar giving Roman citizenship to Cisalpine Gaul with that part being considered geographically part of Italy, that is obviously not the case since a man who lived in the III-II century BC (Polybius) wrote that Hannibal crossed the Alps into Italy (which happened in 218 BC) and he explains very well the geography of Italy, saying it starts at the Alps. The same it's done by Cato, another man who lived already in the III-II century BC There seem to be a common original mistaken map from which these maps come from, it could be this one. Barjimoa (talk) 12:45, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
An idea came to me: you could contact it:Progetto:Laboratorio grafico/Immagini da migliorare to have the map File:RomanItaly.png corrected, so we have at least one corrected one that can visually see the expansion of the territory called Italy. What do you think? LukeWiller (talk) 14:48, 11 August 2024 (UTC).

Ok, thanks for telling me, I didn't know. I had actually heard about this user who was blocked indefinitely, but I didn't know his precise modus operandi. LukeWiller (talk) 12:38, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

I'll point out the first suspicious user right away... :-) Try looking here and looking at his contributions. He subscribes to Wikipedia and immediately edits an article related to Italy, belittling Italy itself, claiming that "Il Fatto Quotidiano" is a blog: in reality it is an authoritative website. And among other things, the same content removal in recent days has already been done by an IP. Changing the subject, I'll also point out this edit about historical-geographical creation of "Italia". User:LukeWiller, you were right, admin confirmed and blocked. Notice his typical gaslighting and accusation in a mirror. He says many users have a national bias, but he is the one with a clear national bias. He says sources are not good, but he has used bad ones or straight-up invented sources in the past (with quotes, pages and everything). He even accuses people of having socks when he has had hundreds and hundreds and sometimes pretends to be British, Portuguese or Italian. Barjimoa (talk) 00:18, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

I don't want to hurt your feelings but think about the fact that you are wasting YEARS of your life trying to circumvent a ban on a website. Ask yourself if it's worth it, cause i don't think it is, but that's an answer you have to find and I can't convince you of it, you have to realize it on your own.Barjimoa (talk) 10:52, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

I will refrain from making edits to Wikipedia, and if I do, they will be minimal, harmless, and always in good faith. I am acting in the best possible way and in good faith here, even if you don't believe it.
As I mentioned, I am very sorry. Kind regards. 37.29.242.46 (talk) 11:07, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
One last thing:
You should know that I think you are a great WP editor. And I like Italy, I wasn't even lying when I said that part of my family is from there, from Friuli, Udine. Despite what it may seem, I have never seen Italy as a competitor or something similar, nor as a country worse or better than Spain. I don't think you or anyone else honestly thinks that way haha
Even if you don't trust me now, things are going to change for the better, since I trust you now. You'll see it first hand. Ciao! 37.29.242.46 (talk) 11:27, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
