Esperanza Elections

[edit]

Hey Banes! I wish to say thanks for your vote at the Esperanza elections.

I've made my way into the Advisory Committee, so if you ever need any help or have any queries about the stuff we do, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks again, KnowledgeOfSelf 09:28, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Banes! A note from me too, thanks for your vote! Like KnowledgeOfSelf said, please let us know if there's anything we can do for you! You know where to find me :-) --JoanneB 18:06, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

[edit]

Thank you for voting on my RfA, it passed with a final tally of 68/0/0 so I'm now an administrator. If there's anything I can do to help, you feel I've done something wrong, or there's just something you want to tell, don't hesitate to use my talk page. Thanks. - Bobet 10:40, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Protected areas

[edit]

Hi Banes...glad to hear from you. I am about to close down shop here but will get back to you later...you'll be long asleep, but will post all I have to your usertalk so you can get busy tomorrow...surf around in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas and I see there is a handy map and template all ready to go...[1]--MONGO 17:08, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did you need any more links to get you started? I can help you find links that will assit you with the latitude and longitude and area of the parks in S. Africa. a good one is here and it lists most parks and protected areas. Click search for sites, then serach by country, query South Africa and it will provide some pieces of info that may be helpful with the infobox. Let me know if there is anything else you need for this.--MONGO 12:47, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for reverting vandalism on my user page. I assure you that I am not interested in NASCAR porn, although I did hear something about Matt Kenseth being featured in Playgirl a couple years ago. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 04:06, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Block Log on user 62.171.198.5

[edit]

Sir, I wish to ask if you would consider extending the ban on this IP for the persistent and annoying way they seem to wish to disrupt the wikipedia. Previous bans of 24 and 31 hours have obviously slowed things down, but the IP is reported as belonging to Research Machines Inc, and its understood that abuse of this IP would result in reports of network abuse to be passed to them.

The IP has an extraordinarily long list of vandalism attached to its name, and I can barely find one edit under the user contributions which is not, or does not amount to outright vandalism. Could I please ask therefore that you consider extending this ban to 48 hours or thereabouts. Previous bans seem to have had no effect since the talk page for this IP is full of bans and vandalism warnings.

Please understand that I would never question the decision of an administrator, as I am not one myself and would consider that the height of rudeness. All I ask is whether you could please reconsider the ban and possibly extend it. Thank you. Thor Malmjursson 10:51, 2 March 2006 (UTC) Thor's pet yack[reply]

Blanking

[edit]

I'm not sure. I don't want to go, but I don't know if I can continue to contribute if i'm basically under the threat of being blocked for having an opinion, even if they don't block me. This place is run by bullies. I'm tired of seeing people be hurt, i'm tired of being hurt myself. Now's not a good time to be around here, maybe I can have a better perspective of things later today or in a few days. Right now is not a good time for me to be here. Hi, Daniel...assuming you went, how was church today? And, how have you been, lately? It looks like you survived again, so I'm glad to hear that. Too bad about your power situation. I would get very sick of that. You said it's cold finally for you? How nice...although, I'm wishing for the reverse here!!

Right before church today, my family and I were talking about my education (a very big thing on my mind for the last five or six days), and we finally came to some resolution. What a big relief. The stress meter [I don't have] was getting really up there with that, so I'm really happy we've finally resolved that issue, at least for the time being. We've decided to back out of CollegePlus and focus on getting my GED and passing a SAT sometime, and after/during that, focusing only on practice and what I'll need to get into a good music school. So, YAY! No more exams except for the GED and SAT.

Oh, and I got to hear Sarah Chang last Friday...talk about FUN! Playing Beethoven's violin concerto, and she was SO awesome. *shiver* I even got her autograph! :)

Anyway...hope all is well with you...--ViolinGirl 15:24, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah...school has been an immense burden on my mind lately, so it feels incredibly refreshing to not think about any school for the next week except violin. So, yeah...
You said, "I have vague plans or possibilities about moving over there..." Over where?--ViolinGirl 20:42, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Woot! That would be cool! Is there a good chance it would become more than a possiblity?--ViolinGirl 22:39, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA Thanks

[edit]
Thank you!
Thank you for your support in my recent RFA. It passed 53/1/2 and I am now an administrator. I appreciate that some of you made exceptions to your usual requirements re length of service and so on because we've interracted positively in the past, or because of my credentials, so I will endeavour to use my new mop cautiously. I'm always open to feedback and gently constructive criticism. If you're not an admin and need some assistance do of course please let me know. Thanks again --kingboyk 00:23, 6 March 2006 (UTC) [reply]

P.S. If you are interested in The Beatles, User:Lar has asked me to tag on a little note advertising the creation of a new Beatles WikiProject that we are currently setting up. Please sign up and help.

Back from break

[edit]

Hi, Banes! Thank you for your kind words regarding my wikibreak; they meant a lot to me. :) Staying away from this place proved impossible, so I'm back. There are simply too many friendly people around here. ;) Happy belated 1,000,000th article milestone! All the best, Sango123 (e) 20:19, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

question

[edit]

hi Banes, how are you? I have a question: I have been asked if I would like to get nominated for admin. What do you think, should I try it or do you think it would still be too early? I would like to, but I think I need to hear the advice from experts first.... thanks. Gryffindor 09:44, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Carolyn Meinel

[edit]

Can you protect Carolyn Meinel? It's had some bad npov efforts recently. Thanks. KI 23:28, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey...

[edit]

Hey, Banes...hope everything's okay, I just checked your contribs and saw you haven't been here for a while (internet time)...anyway, I'm not going to be on long today, but I just wanted to catch up on a few things with you. First, a reply to your last message: That would be really great if you could move to America. Let me know what happens, okay? I'm sure you would love it here. Have you ever been? Any place in particular? Too bad your car was stolen (x2). NOT fun. :) Not related to your message: 22:45, 24 February 2006 (UTC) User:Derek R Bullamore left a message on my talk page about The Four Pennies page. I know nothing about the topic, and don't feel like researching (hey, I'm supposed to be out of the wiki, remember? :O) and not really sure what he wants. I told him I'd give it to you, but I forgot to until now. I'm tot sure what you'll want to do with it (give it to someone else or deal with it yourself), but I figure you'll be able to figure out something to do with it. So, I qoute:

"I have been adding to the "The Four Pennies" page, greatly expanding the information regarding the UK 1960s band of that name. Unfortunately, the page is now mixing up the USA and UK data, and I think it needs a "disambiguation" adding. I am not experienced enough to know how to do this, and would appreciate your assistance."

There you are. So, that was random, but...I AM generally random, so you must not be surprised. Ciao!--ViolinGirl 16:33, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have taken care of this issue. pschemp | talk 04:49, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Pschemp!

Hi, Daniel...I commend you for your long wiki-break (even though you've been working masked, it still was a break, and that's good). Nothing much going on besides violin, at the moment, for which I'm glad. Looking in to taking my GED soon, but nothing seriously planned as of yet. How are you doing? You mentioned you went to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York...can you believe I've never been to NYC? Totally dying to go, but I don't see any prospect for that in the near future. I did drop by DC once, and that was a lot of fun, even though I didn't do much sightseeing there. Anyway...that's about it. Oh, did you see my new userpage as of last week? Let me know what you think sometime, okay?--ViolinGirl 17:53, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No...if you look at my bio on violinist.com you'll see I live more in the central/northern area of the state. It's faster for me to get out of the country than to go to the city. :P I'm hoping someday to go, as I mentioned above, but I'm not sure when it will be. (The word for red: "auburn". :D) I actually haven't sat down and done much study for the GED yet. I've really only been practicing lately, which has been great fun. Neat that you're getting your learner's license soon. I'm hoping to take (and pass) my driver's test on my birthday this year. We'll see! --ViolinGirl 18:44, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why stressed?

[edit]
Perfectly percolated cappucino, Esperanza's own blend.

Is this true? Are you really "pretty stressed"? I didn't see an alert but you are listed on the stresslevel 3 page and I recognized your name from User:Gryffindor's talk page. If you really are stressed (and didn't just forget to remove the link at some point) , let me tell you you and User:Sango123 did a grand job admin coaching. Way too good to be stressed! But just in case, here's a cup of Cappucino. Enjoy! --Mmounties (Talk) 05:12, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hi Banes, how are you? I was wondering if you have one more scenario for me, before I give an administrator voting a shot? Thanks alot... Gryffindor 13:45, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.

If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...

Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 00:08, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would love your help.

Hi,

I know you are interested in christianity, and I recently started a new wiki over at wikicities which is on the subject of christianity. Christian Knowledge Base is the site.

The goal is to have a knowledgebase on christianity from a distinctly "C(hristian)POV" rather than the NPOV. It is not meant to be a mere Christian Encyclopedia, but to foster a real sense of community. I'd like to include things like current events, news, stories, and anything that would add to both an understanding of Christianity, but also its enjoyment. I'm looking for help to build a resource that could really enrich the lives of Christians.

I know you are busy but I am actively seeking new sysops/admins to help me build this site up, and I would be positively thrilled if you could contribute in any capacity whatsoever. nsandwich 05:49, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

For your effort and work, I hereby award you The Barnstar of Diligence. Please let me know if you need any help or drop by and comment on how my work is doing.
