Hi, seeing you have been involved in previous Afd debates on the subject I invite you to contribute to this discussion to clarify certain issues about football player notability. I think clearer guidelines are needed to avoid repeated inappropriate nominations for deletion and time consuming discussions. Cheers! StephP 19:47, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Greetings. I just wrote the page Greek to me. I am comparing similar expressions in other languages. I was wondering if you would be able to add the expression in any languages with which you are comfortable. Btw, I just found your page/profile by running a search for users who have a level 4/level 5 ability in non-English languages. Thanks much! samwaltz 04:36, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Palermo and Catania question
[edit]Hello, I've noticed that you're heavily involved in Sicilian football related articles, particually Palermo. I was working on the Calcio Catania page and noticed that the club first formed in 1908.
As you probably know, Palermo wore the striped colours red and blue until 1907 when they changed to pink. Do you know if Palermo gave their old shirts to Catania? In the Catania image from 1908 they're quite clearly wearing stripes, but as the image is black and white its dificult to tell if the colours are red and blue. Thanks. - Daddy Kindsoul 17:22, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Flag icons for nationality in football team lists
[edit]Hello Angelo, I saw your recent work on List of Arsenal F.C. players and other similar pages, and the introduction of the new Template:sort flagicon. We're discussing the use of flag icons on Wikipedia talk:Don't overuse flags, with the intention of achieving consensus for some future policy. One of our current recommendations is to not use the flag icon alone by itself to convey meaning, but as a helpful addition to assist in long lists, for example. With that in mind, I wonder if you would consider using the (wikilinked) FIFA country code next to the flag icon in your lists. It would certainly fit in the column width with no difficulty. For example, {{flag|ENG}}
would render ENG, {{flag|BRA}}
would render BRA, etc. Also, using these standard templates would obviate the need for an additional sort template. The country code would be the sort key automatically. What do you think? Thanks, Andrwsc 23:45, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- (repost from User talk:Andrwsc) About your proposal to include FIFA country codes alongside flags: well, it's a possibility, but I don't know the FIFA country codes, and I don't think to be the only one; and to me flags are more recognizable than FIFA country codes (I would never associate RSA with South Africa, or MDA with Moldova/Moldavia). Anyway, if a consensus on your proposal should emerge, we might consider implementing a template which returns the FIFA country code for the given nationality, in order to make thing easier for the editors. --Angelo 00:05, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not suggesting replacing the flags by the country codes; I'm suggesting that they be added in addition to the flag icons. No loss of information is suggested. In fact, the reverse is true. If the flag of Cameroon isn't instantly recognizable to you, simply click on the wikilinked "CMR" next to the icon. I have already updated a couple of pages (was a trivial find/replace edit to make), so you can see the results and decide if it sucks or not! Andrwsc 00:09, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Giuseppe Galderisi
[edit]Just as a note, I changed the stats for his years in MLS. I'm not sure what the deal is with that source, but Galderisi had two stints with New England, for 0 goals in 11 total games, and one stint with Tampa Bay, where he had 12 goals in 37 games. That's what all my sources say, and it conforms to what I remember, at least. Thanks. 75.183.8.246 23:18, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding! I'm using the MLS historical stats as my source: [1]. Now that I think about it, the confusion might have been caused by the absurd scoring system that MLS used to employ for player stats. They took the number of goals scored, multiplied it by two, and added the number of assists, including "secondary assists". That was how many "points" a player had scored. (It didn't make much sense back then, either.) Whoever collected the stats on the page you used might have mistaken the "point scoring" stats for Galderisi's goal stats. 75.183.8.246 04:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Relegation Battle
[edit]Hi,
I'm the guy who's put up the relegation battle part of the Serie A page twice.
I totally understand your reasoning from the first removal, as it was indeed "original research" that I'd conducted, mainly out of interest in my own club's chances of avoiding the drop. After the fact, it seemed like something reasonable to post on the page.
However, your argument after removing it a second time seems a little specious. Of course it's going to be obsolete in a week, but you could say the same thing every week about the standings table and the capocannioneri, and yet I hear no calls for removing those from the Serie A page until such time as they become final.
Indeed, with Internazionale running away with this year's title, the insanely tight relegation battle is probably the most interesting thing about this season. I felt it deserved mention that five teams are not only in danger of the drop, but that by the quirk of two of them facing each other this week, every one of them is actually in control of their own destiny. If this was happening at the top of the table, it'd be headline news all over Europe!
If it's going to be obsolete Sunday, that's fine; remove it then. Otherwise, to stay consistent, a number of other things should be eliminated from this page.

Serie C

Rosanero
[edit]Something I can't find an answer to but figure you'll know. How come Palermo are nicknamed rosanero using the singular, when most other teams are nicknamed using Azzurri, rossaneri etc. in plural form? Oldelpaso 11:52, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Serie D
[edit]I have a question that I haven't been able to find the answer to yet. In Serie D there are 9 division champions that replace the 9 teams from Serie C2 that are relegated. Yet, Serie D also schedules play-offs for the 36 teams that place 2nd to 5th in each division....and the playoffs reduce the number of teams to ??? ( this I don't know). I am assuming (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that the eventual playoff 'winners' replace other Serie C2 teams that are bankrupt, and may replace Serie D division winners who cannot make the jump to Serie C2 for some reason. If this is the case, then no one really knows how many 'extra' Serie D teams will be needed to play in Serie C2 at the moment, and the Serie D playoffs results in some sort of list of teams where the first 'X' number are chosen to play in Serie C2. I am probably totally wrong about my assumptions, so any insight would be appreciated. Juveboy 16:53, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:SicilyFlag.gif
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:SicilyFlag.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:37, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

This article does not qualify for speedy deletion. CSD A7 is valid when there is no indication of notability, but notability is clearly established. Playing in Juventus F.C., one of the top football clubs in the world, asserts notability. If you still think this should be deleted, take it to WP:AFD. —Anas talk? 18:37, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Still, I think WP:AFD is the place to go for this one. CSD is for uncontroversial deletions, and this is not really a straight-forward case. Cheers, Anas talk? 18:42, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

North American summer of Soccer
[edit]Hello. I noticed you removed a link I'd added to the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup article pointing to the 2007 North American Summer of Soccer. I found the latter article as an orphan, and thought that the link would be appropriate. Your edit summary "is this term really used?" raises a good question. Is the 2007 North American Summer of Soccer article creating a neologism? Perhaps it needs to be renamed, redirected, or even deleted. I don't know enough about the topic to proceed, however. Admin nomination
[edit]Caravaggese
[edit]I'm quite sure: http://www.lega-calcio-serie-c.it/it/stampa/tempio.htm. The club is always referred to U.S. Calcio Caravaggese, U.S.C. Caravaggese (or as U.S.D. Calcio Caravaggese - see also other news on the Lega Calcio Serie C page) on the Lega Calcio Serie C page and other articles around the web. Since the club completely moved to Caravaggio, I though it was more correct like this.
I can't find anything about Tempio's appeal to the TAR of Lazio. Can you link me something? CapPixel 10:21, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Cosenza
[edit]I've read on the local newspaper of my city that Fortitudo Cosenza had acquired Cosenza's sport rights and trophies but it could be wrong. Anyway, if it's a "mere" relocation of Rende with any links with the old Cosenza Calcio, the main article should be Rende Calcio's one. And about the society's name, if you google a bit, you'll find that the club is named "Fortitudo Cosenza SpA" almost everywhere. CapPixel 21:34, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I know relocation is quite diffused in amateur soccer (but there're rules to prevent this in professional soccer). There're no other articles about the "historical" Messina and I would support the creation of an article about it (in the same vein of History of S.S.C. Napoli or U.S. Internazionale Napoli). The new "A.C.D. Città di Vittoria" is a merger of P.D. Comiso and Junior Vittoria[6]: it's a new club. CapPixel 07:11, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- PS: Please, you don't know me, so don't presume anything about what I think or what I know. Thanks.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bayern Munich 1 - 2 Norwich City
[edit]Hi, I hope that you are having a great holiday, I like Sicily! I wonder if you would be good enough to have another look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bayern Munich 1 - 2 Norwich City, please? It has now been completely rewritten with sources attesting to its notability in the history of Norwich City. I think that it now reads rather well (but since I did some of the work that's hardly an objective view :-)) and there is now enough content that it would unbalance the 'History of ...' article. TerriersFan 22:20, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Your comments imply that you think that no sporting event is worthy of a Wikipedia article. Staying with football alone, there is a well established consensus that some matches are notable (for example, all of the articles in this category are unarguably notable). The question to be addressed by the AfD is whether this particular article demonstrates notability using reliable sources, not whether the consensus that some matches are notable is incorrect. I'd be really grateful if you would reconsider your opinion, as I do genuinely believe this is a notable match. Furthermore, the article is not just a report... and will continue to grow (it was taken to AfD shortly after it was created). Many thanks, --Dweller 09:24, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

FC dynamo kyiv
[edit]I think your suggestion on the talk page of the article is a worthwhile one. I think you should suggest it on the WP:FOOTY talk page. If it gains a consensus there then suggest it on the naming conventions page. I suspect it will be a long drawn out process. Otherwise we run the risk of having requested moves on all the european football club pages. Woodym555 23:05, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, the footy page is watchlisted and i edit conflicted with your reply!! Lol, anyway, i have added a suggestion on the page, it needs cleaning up but can act as a basis for further discussion. Whilst it brings up questions about what can be called reasonable it is a start. Many different people edit wikipedia and they will each have their own, conflicting views on the names. Now we see what everyone else thinks, and whether it is workable. Woodym555 23:57, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Il Giornale Logo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Il Giornale Logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
I notice that you are removing the closed nominations without archiving them. I am just wondering why? I think it acts as a good source for anyone debating the merits of whether to create an article or not. New editors can see what has been deleted in the past and why. Speedy delete tags
[edit]You said in an edit summary "do NOT remove speedy deletion tags, only admins are entitled to do so". If so, then why does the speedy deletion template, as displayed on the article to be potentially deleted, specifically tell people to remove the notice if it does not meet the criteria, and say not to remove the notice if you created the page yourself (implying that you can remove it if you are not the one who created it)? Confusing at a minimum; indicative of possible lack of consensus on that point. --Coppertwig 01:39, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Friendly/Unnofficial Honours
[edit]What's wrong about adding freindly honours. Isn't the inforamtion being added, good? It's good right. So what's the fuss about? The fuss is just because it's friendly. If we don not add these friendly honours, one day may happen that we forget about them; and so adding them in pages will only add extra good information; so that people will still rememeber these non notable honours.
JEPAAB 18:22, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that's right "they are soon forgotten". And so since they are soon forgotten, we must add them so they are not forgotten. We are not here to contbriute only inforamtion that is more important than other information. Since it is not much important it does not mean that we should not add it. So than time later people will still now that once Francesco Bolzoni had a Tim Trophy. Because inforamtion like this was not added to other players, we no do not know (through Wikipedia) that they had contributed to a friendly honour.
JEPAAB 19:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Since people forget these friendly, that does not mean that Wikipedia should also forget them. Wikipedia is a source of inforamtion, and since there is no bad information, i do not know what's wrong about it.
JEPAAB 20:10, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
If I wrote any bad data, just tell me? If I did soemthing wrong, tell me? I am willing to accept my mistakes and correct them.
But I don't see adding friendly/unnofficial honours as something wrong. And also I do not tkink that if i add friendly/unnofficial honours I'm making Wiipedia less serious.
And moreoever I do not accept that you tell me that I do not care about Wikipedia, (but I accept that I do not know everything). I do my reasearch, and try to give my 100% so that when people look at the articles that I have contributed to they found out good inforamtion.
What's wrong with you?
You've deleted my article for Chasing Pandora. Although at first I copied the text directly from their website, then I noticed my mistake and rewritten the article in my own words. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JEPAAB (talk • contribs) 21:33, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Now what's wrong about this template. Your getting on my nerves, judging everything I do. You being in a higher level in Wikipedia, does not mean that you have absolute power of people's contributions.
I created the only tempalate about the Maltese football national squad. And then you come by and request it for deletion.
JEPAAB 20:58, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
I do not know, but it's always you who judges me. One day or another, I think I know what happens... You block me form editting, or something more serious. I do not know what's wron with you. I spend hours contributing to Wikipedia, and then you come by and speak badly about my act of behaviour and my articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JEPAAB (talk • contribs) 21:23, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
I try to accept the policies, but sometimes it's hard to accept some policies. About Template:Malta Euro 2008 Qualifiers Squad I've reflected about it and I think I is possible to be deleted since the squad changes oftenly.
I've seen your log, I do not know whether you blocked someone or not, it the thing that is quite obvious is that you delete many staff, and protect articles also. I think you should change you style a little bit, and first of all inform priamry contributors to that articles, since I was not informed about the deleteion of Template:Malta Euro 2008 Qualifiers Squad. About protecting articles, I find protecting Francesco Bolzoni's article in vain. Since there was not a major reason about it. Adding friendly honours would not have made the page a bad one. There would be a little more information. Yet you chose that you should win the contest, and protected the page for your own satisfaction. I do not think that people will have any objection when thay see that Bolzoni won a friendly honour...
JEPAAB 21:50, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Why do you always say that I "don't care"? If I do not care about Wikipedia, I do nto think I will spend time editting on it. About the articles you've deleted it's not that I do not care, its just that I do not have time to enter into them one by one and see the reason behind the decision.
And again, about Bolzoni, if I had no right to include such inforamtion, did you have such right not to include (excluding that you are a high member of Wikipedia). I do not know where I did not respect peoples point of view. If I deleted something I might say that I have shown lack of respect to them, but adding additinal good information does not show that I showed lack of respect to them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JEPAAB (talk • contribs) 22:05, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Club season MoS
[edit]Hi, first I'd like to apologize for the harsh away I've expressed my point of view on the Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Football_club_seasons_MoS and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football/Club_seasons. I have no reason to continue a rough dispute over that. I'd like to continue discussing this subject in the best way possible. Having said that, I'd like to say that I always thought that prose makes a article looks better, but never give any priority to it. But, reading some Wikipedia documentation I realize that a prose also makes an article easy to understand for those who are not familiar with the issue. So, I'm going to give more priority to prose on those articles that I try to maintain (FC Barcelonas' ones). I've already stated with this, and my idea is to have a better overview and an introduction for each section.
I also like to hear from you what else you think could be improved in FC Barcelona 2007-08 season, so we could exchange ideas. Beast regards. --ClaudioMB 16:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
About the protection template in Francesco Bolzoni page:
I'm ready to accept the fact that friendly honours won't be listed. I do not agree with it, but I am ready to follow these rules, since I can't change them as I am a minor memeber in Wikipedia, and I don not wish to be stopped from contributing to Wikipedia.
So you can remove the tempalte, before it's expiry date.

PD-Italy.. reply
[edit]If you look at the tag which appears underneath it, it says "it is not under United States copyright if it was first published between January 1, 1923 to 1977 and if it was public domain in Italy as of January 1, 1996"
The images which I'm uploading using the PD-Italy tag were taken in Italy and fall within those time periods (1923 - 1977), which means in the US it is not under any copyright and as thus a free image; OK for use on Wikipedia. - Soprani 19:31, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes... the main tags says, an image of this kind is public domain in Italy 20 years after creation. The image of Bronee is from when he was at Palermo in the 1950s, so it has been public domain since the 1970s (long before 1996). - Soprani 19:39, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

You'd know this quicker
[edit]Hi Angelo. I figured you would know this quicker than I would be able to look it up. Is it worth giving Raffaele Ioime a Wikipedia article yet? According to stats I've found he appears to be Catania's third keeper(?) and at nineteen years of age, yet to make a league appearance.
I've got the article written, but surely it would be easier for me to wait until he has made a first-team appearance before I submit it.
Thank you for your input. On a slight tangent, I've gotten two further articles written today, those for Rocco Sabato and Jorge Andrés Martínez. Kinda proud of myself. If you can add any more to these, please do so. Bobo. 18:09, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
On User talk:Bobo192, Angelo.romano said:

Exactly as I assumed, though thank you very much for the source to lower-league statistics, I was looking for something like that and was unable to find it in the short time I looked.
Next on the list... Parma, I think. There are a few redlinked players there, I'll see what I can get from the Italian Wiki as well. Bobo. 18:28, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for putting an end to the edit warring. However, as someone who (a) created both the Libero (soccer) Libero (football) redirects percisely because of such edit warring by User:Daddy Kindsoul some months ago, (b) tries to busy himself tidying disambiguation pages and (c) hates to see either verbiage or redundancy in any article, I wonder if you'd be interested in further tidying?
Either:
- Libero (soccer), a more versatile type of centre back in football, or
- Libero (football), a more versatile type of centre back in soccer
would reduce the parentheses and the repeated words. Would that be amenable? As WP:MOSDAB#Individual entries says, "The description associated with a link should be kept to a minimum, just sufficient to allow the reader to find the correct link." In either case, I'd rather you made any edits, as a party suitable to all concerned. Regards, --DeLarge 22:24, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- About your changing proposal, you are quite right, however your proposal looks a little confusing to people unfamiliar with the subject. I'd rather a third way:
- Libero, a more versatile type of centre back in football (soccer)
- What is your opinion on it? Thanks in advance, --Angelo 22:36, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Ooooh, I'm loathe to introduce a pipe link after all the fuss (see WP:MOSDAB#Piping). An unpiped Libero (football) seems the best choice of link if we're to follow WP:Football conventions for naming and disambiguation, and since I'm shying away from duplicating words and parentheses, I'd much prefer my own second option. However, I'll leave it up to you. Your suggestion might be the one that diffuses the tension the most, and I guess we can ignore all rules if it stops the fighting. --DeLarge 22:55, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- I know about the piping thing (and I sincerely agree with it in a general basis), but I don't really have any other alternative proposal. About your proposal, my fear is that someone might get confused when reading "Libero (football) is a position in soccer". In any case, if we want to strictly adhere to WP:MOSDAB we can keep the status quo, which is fair enough to me. --Angelo 23:09, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I think your first suggestion (with a piped link) is better; it only has a single instance of "Libero", "football", and "soccer". I'm having to choose between having a piped link or a redundancy—"between the devil and the deep blue sea", as it were. However, I'll trust your judgement. I'm off to bed now, so I guess I'll find out in the morning! --DeLarge 23:37, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Italian football images & articles
[edit]Can you undo the image, article and template deletes that this moron Yamla is causing all over Wikipedia, reducing almost featured article content such as A.S. Roma to ruble. - Destrasinistra 16:22, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- But what am I supposed to do when this guy blocks by account (Soprani) and then basically tries to destroy the level all of the Italian football articles have reached (trollishly deleting templates, articles, images, etc).. literally hundreds of article. Basically he is trolling and unimproving lots of work by doing this and thinks he can do it just because he is an admin... we have this as the #1 rule Wikipedia:Ignore all rules... it fits perfect in this situation.
- As you said, the edits I made are pure and simple work, that imrpoves Wikipedia's football article... while what he is doing is destructive to the value of the encyclopedia and its plain and simple trolling... so far, non of my edits are trolling, but if he wants to push me and degrade the value of Wikipedia's football article, then i could easily just stop doing the work and instead focus on making his editing time here hell. - Revelinit 16:33, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I'm fairly sure that you are going about this in a systematic way, and have not got round to it yet, but just in case Raimundo Orsi is still missing his picture. I left my comment at the suggested place. My opinion is clear. I do not support vandals, but in my mind deleting loads of good edits, new articles, improvements to templates and images with rationales is much more like vandalism that incivility. Kindest regards, King of the North East (T/C) 18:49, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK I know I am supposed to not create a sockpuppet account like this one and I'm just making this one comment with it then abandoning it, but I'd just like to say you can find a list of the articles and images he deleted here in his logs, that should make it easier to locate them all and undelete without missing any. Hope this helps. - Sooprani Infinity 19:31, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection question
[edit][8] As ANI is a high-profile page where people's actions are often criticized (and should thus be afforded the ability to defend themselves), could you clarify which section/user this was in reference to? —Random832 19:13, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not an admin - I just was curious as to why; seeing it semi-protected surprised me. —Random832 20:01, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
