Lage Raho...

Cool. Youir wish was fulfilled! Lage Raho... :)--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:18, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Amartya,

how to add both the signatures and link to the talk page both at the same time ?? for example: adding f4 tilde(~) sign will add my name with the link to my User-page at the end of this paragraph. But if i want to add the link of my Talk-page too, then is there any short-cut for these ? It should appear this way without the hyperlinks: User(Talk). Hope, i have clarified the problem to you.--Jayanta 13:17, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

After a little bit of editing i could make only this as you in my sign, but the link to the Talk-page i is still missing. Though i followed the guidelines said in the WP:SIG page. --Jayanta (Talk) 13:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

No it seems it started appearing while i sign. Thanks Amartya. --Jayanta (Talk) 13:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

What confuses me is the terminology of "conservator-level" and "divisional forest officer". The best way to phrase the sentence is probably "The administrative head of the park is called the Director. He is a divisional forest officer, of conservator-level rank", but you need to explain these last two terms. Hope that's helpful! Cricketgirl 19:23, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Tourism

I do not think adding a section on tourism in the article West Bengal is a good idea. State articles usually do not have a dedicated section on tourism. Yes, I know there are several examples to the contrary. Well, the article Tourism in West Bengal is needed.--Dwaipayan (talk) 13:05, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

New articles

I don't have any reference books about authors and living people. Therefore, that is one area I have been avoiding. I have only done one or two authors, so far. I have never given tourism a thought. I will keep it in mind. I had once done some hunting about tourism material. I found that there were lots of materials about international tourism but little or nothing about internal tourism in India. Anyway I will look for material again. Generally, I don't create stubs. If I find that sufficient material is not available for a reasonable decent article, I prefer to leave it for some one else. Regards. P.K.Niyogi 13:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

RE

My concerns were meant for the long term when the current editors will leave Wikipedia, or simply remove the article from their watchlist. I wanted to put a footnote next to every full stop to prevent vandals from inserting a statement cleverly between paras and making it look like the footnote at the end covers everything. In line citations allow for exposing unsourced additions for when we may not be around.

As far as shifting Pant, P.C. (1976). Plants of Corbett National Park, Uttar Pradesh. Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society 73:287-295. to a later section is concerned, I have no objections at all.

However, during the GA-review of the Incense_Route article the reviewer recommended: "Specifically, it should contain in-line citations for all non-general assertions (even if you repeat them within the body of the article) and should briefly touch on all or most of the major sections in the article." In-line citations in the lede also worked well for Roman trade with India, another GA article.

Kindly allow me to keep the in-line citations in the lede since they would act to make the article more verifiable by preventing unsourced additions.

I hope for your continued involvement in the editing and improvement process, and I'll try my level best to make constructive edits in order to promote this great topic to GA.

With regards and good wishes,

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Om Shanti Om01.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Om Shanti Om01.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 17:15, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Copyvio

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Om Shanti Om (film) article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. You can also leave a message on my talk page. --Yamla (talk) 17:08, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Sundarbans

I visited Sundarbans National Park some 8-10 years back in the WB Tourism launch but I don't think that I have any reference material on the subject. Let me check what I have and what I can procure and then I will give it a try. Amitav Ghosh's The Hungry Tide is about Sundarbans. I will look through the book to get a good quote. I have redone a small article about Torsa River. Aryasanyal had earlier mentioned that it flows into the Teesta river. One map is showing it as flowing into the Jaldhaka. Since it is a river in your area please enlighten me on the point. The Bangladesh trip was very exciting. Please have a look at Haor. - P.K.Niyogi 11:34, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Political system of Bangladesh

Yes, broadly speaking Division=State, District=District and Upazila=Subdivision. The big difference lies is a lack of elected local administrative system in Bangladesh (you may check this Banglapdia article for details). The other difference is the existence of stand alone electoral districts (a.k.a. Parliamentary Seats), which doesn't necessarily correspond to District or Upazila boundaries. Thanks for the massive help you rendered in reviewing the article. Thanks also for the kind words. I really am looking forward to an FA status for Sitakunda Upazila sometime soon. Aditya(talkcontribs) 23:02, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Culture, media and Sitakunda

Yep. Gone through the West Bengal and Kolkata articles. Massive sections on culture and media there. Unfortunately Sitakunda is a much smaller political entity. Things that you are looking for would be same for almost all upazilas in the Chittagong District, Chittagong Division or even Bangladesh, and would probably be much better for those mother articles. Kolkata on the other hand is the capital for all of eastern India, and is comparable to Dhaka, the national capital of Bangladesh. All over the world, and in the lesser developed countries in particular, resource and activities are concentrated around a few urban centers. As many stuff to write on, or even anything near it, can't be found in, say, Alipurduar. But, apart from that and the redlink issue, i guess, I have tried to meet you observations and suggestions as best as I could (there can always be improvements, though). Would you take another look? Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:39, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

All three media sections, in Darjeeling, Gangtok and Kalimpong, show significant flaws. Mostly they are not sourced and lack in-line citations, and therefore looks pretty much like original research. They also contain non-neutral points of view and peacock words. Besides, repeating in all West Bangal district articles that they recieve newspapers from the state capital and then going on the name the newspapers everytime doesn't look like a bright idea. These articles had a lot to write about culture (again unsourced and original research) because of the ethnographic differences. Not so in Sitakunda. And, still Gangtok is a state capital and Darjeeling is a district headquarter (even if we ignore the cultural and geographic uniqueness). Alipurduar may still be better comparison (i.e. a sub-district level administrative unit with a cultural and media scene that is homogeneous with the rest of the bigger entity). But, well, I take the idea, and working on it (of course within the guidelines of verifiable and non-neutral facts). I hope the rest of the article is in working order. And, oh, what was job that surprised you? Aditya(talkcontribs) 02:49, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Update. I have tried to organize a "media and culture" section. It will need a bit of expansion (like names of the two cinema halls, info on cricket and info on the Dhaka-Chittagong newspaper distribution route that runs through Sitakunda). Would you check the stuff that is there now (and also the explanation of fire services in the "administration" section)? Thanks for being ruthless, it really helped to have a really tough critic. The article is in much better shape now, I hope. Another bout of filling in the gaps, creating articles for the redlinks, a thorough copyedit, and I guess, we would have fine FA material on our hand (I may give GA a go first, though). Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 16:27, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
