US state winery lists
[edit]A user, IronGargoyle, put a deletion prod tag on List of wineries, breweries, and distilleries in New Jersey, which I promptly removed. I believe this user has done it to the rest of the winery list articles for the rest of the states. I am not familiar with the other state lists, so I don't know if they meet MOS/Notability/LINKFARM, etc. policies for inclusion, but if you had a few moments to take a look, I'd appreciate your opinion on it (I don't know if it's too late).--ColonelHenry (talk) 03:54, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
- Well to be frank, most of List of XXX wineries articles are junk that serve more as directory advertisements then fulfill the requirement of WP:LIST to be informational, developmental and navigational tools. The New Jersey one is a stark exception, because it actually gives information and background with reliable referencing instead of being just a linkfarm.
- While I don't think every single entry on the NJ lists is notable, there has nonetheless been considerable effort invested into creating articles that are neutral, non-advert-ish and as much in compliance with WP:GNG as possible. I can see the benefits in giving some WP:IAR lee-way on hardline notability in deference to creating a fuller-prospective and in-depth coverage of the New Jersey wine and beverage industry as you and David have done.
- Overall I respect IronGargoyle's efforts to remove advertisements and linkfarms from these types of articles. If another editor wanted to take on such a large-scope project for the Kansas wine industry or Ohio, etc, I could see value in those articles and would support the same IAR-leeway on the less notable entries but right now, these list articles themselves are merely phonebook style directories and linkfarms of largely non-notable businesses.
- However, I agree with removing the prod, as you did, and if List of wineries, breweries, and distilleries in New Jersey went to AfD, I would advocate keeping this article. AgneCheese/Wine 04:15, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Champagne Krug updates

Hope you are doing well.
Last month I sent to Krug the two options you gave to me and that will help us to change the photos that appear on Champagne Krug article.Krug has decided to donate a copyrighted image to Wikipedia.
On the other hand Krug want to slightly modify the reference sections, I would like to know if you can modify the references outlined below:
- - Jaunay Family History > please delete it
- - Krug Grande Cuvée remplace it with https://www.krug.com/en/krug-champagnes/krug-grande-cuvee

- Hmm, I'm trying to follow this. We're deleting former footnote #6 (the Jaunay link) which was used to source the text "After the war, Joseph II’s slow recovery led to his nephew Jean Seydoux becoming joint manager in 1924." However, looking at the ref, it doesn't appear to verify or support that info at all so it is go to delete it. However, we still need a reference for it or it included in the book (current footnote #5) John Arlott, Krug: House of Champagne?
- Secondly, I went ahead and swapped out the url cites because the Krug links were better than the ones currently being used. However, we do need to work on finding more independent, 3rd party reliable references instead of overly relying on Krug's own website. Having too many links to Krug's websites gives the impression of bias POV with the Wikipedia page being used as an advertizing extension of the Krug's website.
- And considering that many of the details included in the Champagne section don't really need to be in the article for the sake of encyclopedic depth (a simple bullet list of the generic types of Champagne that Krug makes would suffice), it would not be out of the question to see most of these extraneous details removed entirely in the future--especially if we don't find better referencing. March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive
[edit]It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Wine books
[edit]Hi, I was considering ordering a book on notable wineries. Can you recommend some books which could be used to bring certain articles to GA status? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:31, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Not too many books on wineries themselves. Some books like Sotheby Wine Encyclopedia and Hugh Johnson's Wine Companion will include some blurbs about wineries along with descriptions about the regions. When you get books on specific regions, like Chateauneuf-du-Pape and California, you will have more detailed blurbs on wineries but even that will usually only be a page or two. Unfortunately, it seems like most reliable sources on wineries tend to be from newspaper and magazine articles. AgneCheese/Wine 15:43, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
And what would you consider to be really important winery articles to get up to GA? Particularly California but anywhere else?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:06, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- There are a few trail blazing wineries in California that would certainly be helpful to have fully developed articles on.
- The wineries that participated in the Judgment of Paris wine tasting event for sure, particularly the winners Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and Chateau Montelena.
- There currently is no separate articles on Charles Krug's or Robert Mondavi's wineries but they would both certainly warrant one.
- Buena Vista Winery is a national historic monument that was founded by the characterful Agoston Haraszthy which I could see both articles being interesting GAs (or even FA for Haraszthy)
- Outside of California, I do think the classified growths of Bordeaux warrant GA status, particularly the First Growth estates of Chateau Margaux, Château Haut-Brion, Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Lafite and Chateau Latour.
- Hope that helps! AgneCheese/Wine 17:40, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

The DYK project (nominate) 16:04, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
Agne27, I was wondering what you wanted to do about this last-minute April Fools Day nomination, since it wasn't reviewed in time. Since it was so close to the April 1 deadline, we could grandfather it in for next year, but I thought you might want to see it on the main page sooner, and with a regular DYK hook. Inappropriate COI warning
[edit]Hi. You sent me a COI message, and have undone a number of my carefully chosen references. Please take the time to investigate the sources I selected. You are correct that they typically come from Wine-Searcher.com. You are incorrect that this means that they are spam. They are genuine references. I am a wine professional and have spent five years full-time creating encyclopedic content. I hold the WSET Diploma and am embarking on a Master of Wine qualification. Please stop undoing my work. I am supporting (not undoing) yours. Jeeves79 (talk) 00:23, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- You may want to look at our WP:DUCK essay. The fact that ALL of your edits focus on adding wine-searcher.com links is problematic--especially when there is a litany of reliable wine references out there. As someone who also hold a WSET Diploma and is also working towards MW, I'm not swayed by your playing of the WP:EXPERT. In fact, someone in your position should be acutely aware of the abundance of reliable wine sources (even more reliable than Wine Searcher) out there and should have an edit history which incorporates that knowledge by pulling from a broad array of sources. Lord knows you'll never pass any of the Level 4 WSET exams relying on Wine Searcher alone. AgneCheese/Wine 03:41, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive
[edit]Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!
TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.
If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.
At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.
As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup
[edit]Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!
As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:
For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.
For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).
The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup
[edit]
WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers. Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges. Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC) To receive future GA Cup newsletter, please add your name to our mailing list.

I was reading your well written articles on the different grapes from Campania, especially Ischia. Was just wondering how you reffered the caprettone to sheep, since Capra is a Goat. Tried finding out if Capra was Latin for sheep, but I don't think so either. However, great article! :)

Roussea
[edit]Hello, a long time ago you made a redirect for Roussea to the grape variety Trebbiano. This is however at least also a genus of plants. It strikes me that the Trebbiano article does not list Roussea as one of the synonyms, which seems strange because it does list a great many other synonyms. The question is what to do with the redirect. I prefer to "have" it for the plant genus and add a hatnote for the grape synonym. Please tell me what you think. Kind regards, Dwergenpaartje (talk) 07:47, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Jeanjean
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Jeanjean requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Orphaned non-free image File:Fruity section of Aroma Wheel copyright A C Noble 1990 2002 wwwwinearomwheelcom.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Fruity section of Aroma Wheel copyright A C Noble 1990 2002 wwwwinearomwheelcom.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

The article Tamarez has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- As a disambiguation, this fails WP:DABMENTION as the synonym is not attested at any of the articles listed.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Tavix (talk) 17:41, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
