Ghana Empire
[edit]Dear Abdel Noor. I've been looking over the Ghana Empire entry and I am planning to do some changes that will affect your contribution, most notably that concerning links between Ghana/Wagadu and the Asante Kingdom. There is very little evidence and that convoluted, that there is any real historical connection between the two. When Nkrumah named his new country Ghana in 1957, he never claimed there was and only used the term as a symbolic representation of the first independent African country after independence, linking it to the first named African country he knew. Raymond Mauny and Ivor Wilks have since sought to make connections largely though pointing out the commercial links between Northern Ghana and the Mande world of which Ghana was ultimately a part. But no one has suggested any more direct connection, especially given the geographical and chronological difference between the two regions.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know what I'm doing and you can judge whether or not you would like to discuss it on the article talk page, or my talk page. Beepsie (talk) 19:36, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
