Good news and bad news
Hiya, good news first. I've been busy on the biography of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, which had been unreferenced.[1] The research is getting more interesting as I go. Perhaps it could reach GA with a collaborator if it interests you?
Bad news is the AFD stuff. I've gone on record stating I'd endorse a conduct RFC, and the only reason one hadn't started since your return is that you'd stayed away from that area. Now that you're back to AFD I'll be on my honor to certify RFC if someone starts one. You deserve to know this in advance. I like you and want to see you succeed as an editor. There's history here, though. And there's some problems with that history. You know I've come down on deletionists when they've gamed site standards. Including admins.
Friend, I'd rather see you collecting GA credits on popular culture than running into trouble. This site has plenty of unreferenced articles in that area that could go to GA or even FA. In the big picture, wouldn't it do more credit to your convictions about what Wikipedia should be to see Hawkins on the main page as the day's featured article? Without Hawkins we might never have had Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, and Marilyn Manson. Wikipedia's main page gets an average of 5 million page views each day. Think about that.
Best regards, DurovaCharge! 19:42, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Here is a list of all the resolved/closed AfD's I have participated in since username change in alphabetical order:
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Auraya of the White (I argued to keep and added to the article, which was merged)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/A Warriors Trial (I argued to delete and it was deleted)
- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Blah_(2nd_nomination) (I argued to keep and the article was yet again not deleted as the discussion closed as "no consensus")
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christine White (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/D. B. Cooper in popular culture (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/DG (character) (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eddie Quist (my keep argument and rescue efforts directly persuaded some to argue to keep, which was the end result)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Flatpoint High School (Strangers with Candy) (I argued to keep; the result was no consensus)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Glitch (character) (I argued to keep and it closed as no consensus)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gwen Grayson (I argued to keep and improved the article; the result was a redirect with edit history intact)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Isla Nublar (3rd nomination) (again, an article I defended in a previous nomination that I once again argued to keep and once again improved as well that was kept in the end)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Isla Sorna (3rd nomination) (I argued to keep this article that I had argued to keep at length in its previous nomination and once gain greatly improved the referencing and out of universe content of the article; the result was "no consensus")
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Life Mel honey (I argued to keep and it was snowball kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of characters in Skulduggery Pleasant (I argued to keep and it closed as no consensus)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of characters in Tin Man (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of chemical compounds with unusual names (3rd nomination)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of problems solved by MacGyver (3rd nomination) (I argued to keep and although the article was initially deleted after a proactive and productive discussion with the deleting admin, he restored the article and allowed me to merge content to the main article on the series; our efforts were upheld at Deletion Review)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional swords (2nd nomination) (I argued to keep and the close was no consensus leaning towards keep)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of most-listened-to radio programs (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of SD Gundam G-Generation F mobile suits (I argued to keep, merge, or redirect this article that I created; the article closed as a redirect with the edit history intact)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of unusual deaths (fourth nomination) (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mangle Time (I argued to delete and it was speedily deleted)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mesogog (my keep argument and rescue efforts again bore fruit)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Peggy Jean (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sandor (fictional character) (2nd nomination) (I argued to keep, while not opposing a merge and it closed as "merge")
- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/The_Coltons (I argued to keep and made some improvements to the article; article was kept and now we have a better article thanks to my efforts)
- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/The_Suburbs_(web_series) (I argued to weak keep due to another editor's improvement efforts, i.e. to praise a fellow editor; article was kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/The_Well_(church) (another instance of arguing to keep as a means of being friendly to a fellow article rescuer; article was indeed kept)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tony Cunningham (Tony & Friends) (I argued to delete and it was deleted)
- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Upstairs_at_The_Gatehouse (I again argued to keep in support of a fellow editor's efforts and the results was a "speedy keep)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WoodyRimShot (I actually argued to delete this one and it was indeed deleted)
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wyatt Cain (I argued to keep and it was kept)
- You will see in the above that I only replied to those who responded to me, rather than to everyone who disagreed with me and you will also see that all of the results were ones that were acceptable to me and more or less in line with what I was arguing. Even in the MacGyver case, the merge work that I did was in agreement with the closer and then upheld at Deletion Review. And as you can see in the above thread, even with someone who is usually more deletionist, I am finding ways to compromise and work together to improve our project. I have essentially changed my approach to these discussions and by and large since doing so the results have been very positive for our project. I cannot imagine anyone having objective issues with the above and the truth is that I am resisting commenting in a great many discussions I really want to comment in just to avoid stirring anything up. Rather I am focusing on commenting only in ones that would not be controversial (such as arguing to delete, which no one ever took issue with), ones that I created (as Chaser okayed my doing), ones that I previously defended at considerable length, or ones that I personally believe I can really improve. I could probably list over a hundred since my return that I seriously wanted to add my two cents to, but decided I best just sit it out. In any event, I would of course be happy to work with you on bringing articles to good or featured status; however, as I posted above, this coming week is finals week and so I will not be on much if at all for the next 7 to 10 days (why I had a long stretch between yesterday and today's edits as well). I wish to withdraw and archive the following thread that I started at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Not_properly_attributing_contributions_in_merge_edit_summaries so that I can discuss with the editor in question instead at Help_talk:Merging_and_moving_pages#Merge_edit_summaries. Thus, as I am not asking for administrator intervention for now, the thread I started serves no relevant purpose there anymore. Anyway, I am not sure how to archive, mark as resolved in such instances. Thanks! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 05:14, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

I just said 37 to make it sound cooler.
But you recently nominated an article of mine for rescue from deletion. Thanks, but i was wondering on how you got led to the page, and why you thought it was worth a rescue. IAmTheCoinMan (talk) 20:12, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

ANI/editor review
(after posting this on the wrong page) I really do appreciate the gesture with the review (I realize the ginormous backlog there). I would be an idiot to say that we see eye-to-eye and that we're the ideal Wikipedians out there — we both have some shortcomings here and there. Next time, I won't nudge you as hard when I disagree with you. I look forward to the full editor review. And good luck with grading finals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MuZemike (talk • contribs) 02:38, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, when I have a little more time I will be happy to make a more thorough review. I really do hope that any old "rivals" and I will be able to get along in the future. I know Magioladitis and I probably do not usual agree on the fiction content, but if he and I can work together on article in my userspace than I believe others on the opposing sides of the inclusion debats can compromise and work together too. All the best! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 21:11, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for endorsing one or more summaries in the RFC. Please note that two proposals have been put forward on how we can move on after the RFC: Casliber's proposal and Randomran's proposal. Heavens above and my goodness A Nobody, I am astonished. My comments begin "Could the opposers...", and therefore there is obviously, blatantly and explicitly no reference to you. It matters not a whit to me, but, for the avoidance of any thoughts of mockery or joviality among less kindly-minded editors, which is clearly our highest priority, you may (or may not - the choice is indeed yours) wish to remove or refactor your latest comments. AlasdairGreen27 (talk) 22:09, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

TTN RfAr
Thanks for the heads up. That's definitely a discussion I need to read and comment on. I never got around to actually filing an RFC, but now that the Arbcom's attention is raised I might as well share my concerns there. - Mgm|(talk) 11:24, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think the two things that bug me the most about his nominations in my capacity as an article rescuer are 1) too many for us to try to rescue at a time; we don't have a deadline so what's the rush? and 2) the copy and paste nominations that don't take into account individual article merits. In Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eddie Quist, the whole not covered in real world reliable sources claim he always uses just was not true as quick searches on Google Books and Amazon.com shows. Now some of the times his nomination does make sense in that I am unable to find sources, which is why I do not comment in every AfD he starts and nor do I tag every one for rescue as not all of them can be rescued, but a good deal can be and when they have the same worded nomination as those that can't it suggests either an indiscriminate approach to nominations, lack of checking for sources, or something not good. And if he's after merging and redirecting, why not at least try to get a consensus elsewhere? He nominated a slew of the characters from the Underworld movies with wildly diverse referencing potential and notability again with the same cookie cutter nomination, but as seen at User_talk:A_Nobody/Archive_3#Clarification, I and another user who is far more apt to agree with him than I am were willing to work together to merge the articles to a list which we are still working on in my userspace. We can compromise and work colloboratively on these things, and I really hope he can see that and join us as it were. I do not think every fictional character article should be kept or even merged (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tony Cunningham (Tony & Friends)) and I think it would be encouraging if just as you and I can occasionally argue to delete, he would occasionally argue to keep. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 17:20, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Break
Hello,
There were several projects I intended to work on that would take hundreds of hours, the largest of which was an expansion of college basketball Missouri Valley Conference team and team season pages. All projects were stifled by overzealous administrators that have made it quite clear that, one way or another, they will band together to delete these articles. They have even expressed that they want to delete season articles that were featured on Wikipedia's front page. The other projects have been halted by similar issues. I have no confidence that my contributions will remain on this site after two years. I've given this site almost two years to change for the better, but it has failed to budge an inch.
I wish the best of luck on fighting against this encyclopedia's downward spiral, but I just need to move on to better things.
Thanks Vodello (talk) 22:53, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I appreciated your efforts and if anything perhaps the thread above this one is encouraging, no? Take care! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 01:06, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
List of traps
Hi A. I'm not sure whether you saw my edit to User:A Nobody/List of traps in the Saw film series. The info still needs to be worked into the draft. Most of the info probably is in a book or two somewhere. This and this seem to turn up some info. It's hard to figure out the best google search string since "saw" and "trap" are such common words. -- Suntag ☼ 20:05, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- One thing I am wondering is we should drop "film" from the title, because a video game will be coming out and so we somewhat augment the notability of the list by indicating that it concerns an aspect of fiction that transcends just films. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 20:18, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- I don't recall what they call it when they expand out from just films. It might be media empire (List of traps in the Saw media empire or List of traps in the Saw media). -- Suntag ☼ 12:47, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe "franchise"? Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 16:39, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Token AFDs
AN, I'll be blunt. Everyone knows you're a strong inclusionist. Trouting out two AFDs as evidence of your willingness to argue for deletion is unlikely to change others' minds. Relevant diffs are always more persuasive than responding to ad hominem, which is best ignored.--chaser - t 09:37, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tim Carney
Thanks. I was not online the last five days. I closed the AfD just now. Remember that you can always be bold and perform a non-admin closure. You are becoming an experienced editor and you are able in performing these actions. Btw, how the list of Underworld characters going? I won't be online a lit until New Year's Eve. At some point in January we can improve the article a lot and move it in the mainspace. Merry Christmas! -- Magioladitis (talk) 13:41, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
