Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, such as the ones you made to Christmas truce. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.

- Simplified Manual of Style
You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but if you wish to acquire additional privileges, you can simply create a named account. It's free, requires no personal information, and lets you:
- Create new pages and rename pages
- Edit semi-protected pages
- Upload images
- Have your own watchlist, which shows when articles you are interested in have changed
Note that in order for the first three features to be available, you must have had an account for a minimum number of days and made a minimum number of edits.
If you edit without using a named account, your IP address (2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D) is used to identify you instead.
I hope that you, as a Wikipedian, decide to continue contributing to our project: an encyclopedia of human knowledge that anyone can edit. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, or you can to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. We also have an intuitive guide on editing if you're interested. By the way, please make sure to sign and date your talk page comments with four tildes (~~~~).
Happy editing! CLCStudent (talk) 14:16, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Undid edit
Hello! I undid this edit where you removed a week-old warning from someone's talk page. I am not sure why you would be doing that. Also, so I understand, could you please explain the hilarious practice of an IP (you) leaving shared IP templates on other IP's pages, encouraging them to get an account? It really cracked me up. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 03:08, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- @ThatMontrealIP: Well this would be a lame edit-war so I'll explain my reasoning, and if you want you can self-revert but it really is a whatever. The shared IP messages, are less about trying to convince anons to create an account, and for the record I support changing that template to reflect the principles of WP:WNCAA but I don't think an RFC to do so would gain much traction, and more about tagging talk pages so that patrollers who show up at them recognize their dealing with widely shared IPs without having to check the WHOIS, which often changes the dynamic in those circumstances. As for the {{older}} that is really semi-pointless wikignomery, at the time I was getting called away and back again while a curios onlooker was near, I decided to show someone how to place a template and what the effects are for demonstration purposes, I could've used the sandbox but those were at near the top of the contribution history so it was quick and harmless to show something a hair more practical. You should not usually remove warnings from the same month as they are useful in quickly ascertaining past behavior, but the the range is blocked and won't be edited for a month so it's not harmful, so anyway I hope you're no longer confused =p. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 03:22, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- You sound pretty experienced, so I imagine you know you should not be removing things from people's talk pages. Leaving "get an account" messages is just plain hilarious, as you have chosen not to get an account! I can see you are doing some good work but perhaps you will agree it is a tad hypocritical to leave get an account messages when you do not have one. I was tempted to leave you one but resisted the urge.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 03:28, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- @ThatMontrealIP: Perhaps I was not clear so I'll be briefer, the messages are not primarily intended for the anons who are neither likely to see nor understand them, but are instead primarily for patrollers who happen across them. I think I explained the removal above, as long as there is an {{older}} patrollers will know to consult the history. You should still not normally do that with recent messages, and even knowing that those pages won't be used for a month that action was still pushing the limits of the accepted practice, I'll concede, but I think it made a good demonstration, and was not harmful. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 03:34, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- I am going to leave that get an account message now, as I think you need one.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 03:39, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- @ThatMontrealIP: I'll tweak it later, this is also technically a shared IP, but I don't know if it's widely shared enough for that sort of message to be useful, but hey thanks anyway. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 03:42, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

Your CSD on User:Bobhollyhock/Presidency of Jimmy Carter
Hey, I saw you tagged the page User:Bobhollyhock/Presidency of Jimmy Carter as CSD U5. I have reviewed the History of that Page, and to me it looks like this Page is a Userspace Draft. In this case it would fall under the "plausible drafts" exception of WP:U5, so I removed the notice. --Info-Screen::Talk 01:34, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Info-Screen: I tagged it because use of Wikipedia to as a free webhost for alt-history stuff is an ongoing problem, note the line
The presidency of Jimmy Carter began at noon EST on January 20, 1977, when Jimmy Carter was inaugurated as the 39th President of the United States, and ended on January 20, 1985.

- @Info-Screen: No worries, you spend enough time around here you eventually run into really strange stuff. A differrent sandbox I csd'd earlier (User:TheBritishUnion1707/sandbox you can't see it obviously, but admins can), even had an edit summary indicating that the advice on forums for alt-history fans was to use Wikipedia in exactly this way, I suspect we haven't caught even half of them. Anyway, keep up the good work; with time will come more experience. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 02:07, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Antivandal coffee for antivandal IPs

- Also it's very rare I see a IPV6 address stay this fixed. Huh. —moonythedwarf (Braden N.) 03:14, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Moonythedwarf: Yes it it is quite rare for IPV6s to stay fixed. In this case it is because these are ancient computers with hardwired ethernet connections to the internet. Any devices that use wifi or the cell net will hop quite quickly often within hours, but hardwired connections may stay fixed for much longer depending on the configuration. Anyway some day I may write an essay explaining when you should or should not default to blocking /64 ranges and why, If I feel up to it. Unfortunately, I don't know how much longer these computers, or this location will be available so I don't think we'll get the chance to set the IPV6 record. We'll see but some of the rumors could be bad news for the little group we've developed, so I don't know how much longer edits will continue to come from here. Anyway, I do appreciate your help and all the hard work that you do. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 03:26, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- "Ancient". My desktop uses hardwired ethernet more because I'm too cheap to get a wireless card. Sounds like you're in a tight spot, tho. I wish you good luck with your future endeavors. —moonythedwarf (Braden N.) 04:17, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

I reverted a non-administrative closure you made at WP:AN. IPs should never do NACs at any noticeboard, or anywhere else for that matter. If you want to recommend a closure, you can do so. Consider this as a combination of advice and a warning.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:59, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Bbb23: Sorry if it was a bad close, in case you didn't know I can't receive notifications so I hadn't seen it. In any case I have some experience with cross-wiki issues so I am familiar with where concerns on the ko wiki should be directed, but if you disagree with that advice that's your preference. As for closing noticeboard discussions I do it occasionally if you haven't perused the recent archives they have a number of IP closures of ani et al, mostly not by me. Anyway I would like you to explain any problems with the closure, was it inappropriate if so how? You can use google translate to verify I sent them to the right place if need be, google translate is not perfect but in this case it's good enough. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 16:04, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- You delight in twisting my words. I said don't do any nac's. The merits of your closure are irrelevant. IPs have various rights, but if you want to do nac's, create an account (or reactivate any accounts you've had in the past) and gain experience with that account. If you persist in your current pattern of doing things that are normally done by administrators or very experienced registered users, you are probably headed for a block.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:09, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Bbb23: I'm not attempting to twist your words sorry if I came across that way. Could you please clarify your reasoning why I should not do any nacs if there are no issues with my previous closes, thank you. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 16:12, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

- @Info-Screen: thanks for the pointer. That actually is in our notes here although I don't review them as often as I should, my understanding has been that formal discussions include things like RFCs, deletion discussions, etc, whereas many talk page threads are effectively informal, at least that's how I read it. I still don't see how I was wikilawering or how my actions demonstrated a lack of civility, but sometimes you are so into something you need to take a break and come back to things later before you realize where things went wrong. As such, I think I'll take a break now, and review the old diffs later, I do appreciate the help. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 20:12, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Hello everyone
So I was reading about what happened recently, and I actually like the idea of names. Nothing against anyone who doesn't want one though. So anyway I will try to remember to sign as Spectrum because I think it's cool. I mostly do RCP, but if someone knows anywhere on Wikipedia where stuff that concerns IPs is being discussed I will try to help. BTW the only reason I don't make an account is because IPs doing RCP strikes fear into the heart of vandals! Spectrum 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 02:08, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Background on latest operator
There has been suggestion that every individual that edits from this address should provide distinct identification so as to facilitate communication. Merits of such assertions aside for the moment, I will provide some background.
I last edited in early February, albeit overwhelmed in volume by a co-conspirator, who was active at my prompting around the same time, a situation further complicated by a need to use a different computer for some edits by each of us. I was also editing mostly on my own from this computer for a period in December. I both accepted the nickname and created the colorful banner, but I can take little credit for the other creative work which has been produced locally. I am also responsible for increasing the sophistication of anti-vandalism techniques/procedures and starting the compilation of lessons learned. It may then surprise an observer to learn that I have done proportionally very little anti-vandalism work myself. Instead my work has focused on afds, rfcs, and noticeboard interventions/deescalations. Why? Well how I choose to utilize my time is my own business.
Going further back, I have considerable experience with Wikipedia, although most of it is not recent and there is still plenty I have to (re)learn. For those who care odds are fairly decent that my total edit count is higher than yours, odds are equally good that if we only look at the last several years you have me by a landslide even if you're quite new. I do not personally concern myself much with such numbers as edit count should not be a measure of significance.
I anticipate being around here for quite some time, however owing to the less than happy circumstances that occasion my presence, total volume of output may be quite low.
Finally, it has been argued that appendage of an individualized signature will also further the goal of facilitated communication. I have two concerns with this. First, preventing impersonation is near impossible, and there are enough LTAs watching things from afar as to make this very dangerous in the long run. Indeed a cardinal rule of local etiquette is to avoid, even on other wikis, associating yourself with our activities here once you leave this location so it will be immediately obvious if any impersonation is attempted. Second, at least one principled objection has been raised to this practice. While I consider myself neutral on that particular question the long-term problem is that if all but one adopt an individualized signature, then the one remaining is essentially forced to do so as well by virtue of being the only one to continue using the standard signature, that situation would be undesirable. 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 15:58, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
Update: Having further reviewed I will be adding an individualized signature. The first concern can be mitigated by the simple expedient of only using it while at this address, the second is not a concern due to the short remaining lifespan of this enterprise. It's funny
When registered users admit to sharing an account, they get blocked. When IP users admit to sharing an address, that's just the way it is. Oh well, keep up the good work, Spectrum. creffett (talk) 21:01, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

A kitten for you!
For being an excellent anonymous editor. PS I know you like editing while logged out, but maybe you should consider the advantages of registering, like... you know, getting a more permanent user page, your own personal username, signature, preferences, skin... the list goes on! And user rights, like rollback and patroller and reviewer alike. Or you can keep on editing as an IP. Either way, I am happy. Have this kitten. Some argue that IP edits are less anonymous since they can be used to trace your ISP or general location, others argue that they are more anonymous because you are not disclosing any of your credentials. :)

- @Awesome Aasim: Thanks for the kitten. As a long-term member of AGFWWRUP I won't be creating an account, not for reasons of being more or less anonymous, but just on the principle of the matter. I'm hardly only one who edits from here so I can't take most or even much of the credit for the work that has come from this IP. I actually consider not having extra-rights to be a nice safeguard, as it lessons the magnitude of the mistakes I am capable of making. As for the signature I already have one, best regards Spectrum {{UV}} 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 04:12, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- I agree with what you link to, I just think you deserve recognition for standing out of the dozens of IPs who come to the site. So many people, both anonymous and registered, trash the site (see our block log and block list), but it is good that we have users like you that clean up problematic edits. As for logging out, I am probably not going to do so right now, as I do not like the idea of having multiple accounts/editing while logged out as it is too easy to do incorrectly. I'd rather maintain accountability for my actions as it ensures that I establish trust with tools like what I have so far. But keep up the hard work :) Aasim 04:25, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- And have you tried emoji? You can do so by simply Windows+. or Windows+; or Control+⌘ Command+Space or by copying and pasting from the web. 😊 Aasim 04:27, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Awesome Aasim: I have actually tried emoji, but I usually use templates Spectrum {{UV}} 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 04:44, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Impending finale
I will be making my last edits from this location sometime late on the 23rd. The need for my presence here IRL has diminished and I've already arranged a departure. In all likelihood those will be the last edits to originate from this IP address. Hopefully some good was done. It'll be a while, but I'll edit again eventually. I know for a fact that one of my co-conspirators is periodically active, perhaps some of the others will edit again as well. The signature will not be used again, love it or hate it that's the only way to avoid impersonation. Of couse even absent open association some will make the connection on their own, indeed I've run into enough familiar usernames that it wouldn't surprise me if some had already drawn a connection to even earlier edits. Spectrum® however, will cease to be; so it goes.
It's probably best that this end quietly. I do want to thank everyone who's taken the time to help out, and been understanding through all the muddles. I'm not going to link any usernames in particular both because I'd inadvertently leave two or three people out who really deserve a mention, and because I prefer to let everyone work without the distraction of an unneeded ping, but this would not have been possible without your help; you know who you are.
So long and thanks for all the fish feedback. Spectrum {{UV}} 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 04:44, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry to see you go, but hopefully you can keep contributing from wherever you go to. Also you know if you registered an account you could edit with the same non--identity from anywhere in the world, just sayin'. Levivich [dubious – discuss] 05:32, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Levivich:Meh I prefer to stay logged out and edit like a normal person Spectrum {{UV}} 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 19:31, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
