- Early life and career*
J Michaels was born on September 16, 1963 in Pasay City (Manila) Philippines. His family relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii shortly thereafter, where he grew up listening to a wide variety of music. In 1997 he appeared on the compilation album Lovesongs in Paradise with several other solo artists, singing 3 of 13 tracks. Numerous local appearances followed to promote sales of the CD. The following year he formed his band called The Sultans (with fellow power vocalist Frank Maka‘awa‘awa of Honolulu’s Motown-style group “A Touch of Gold”). Together they released an album entitled “I Couldn’t Say Goodbye” in 2000, with a notable appearance opening for Gary Puckett on Mother’s Day 2000. The J Michaels Band was formed in 2002 to back J Michaels in various live performances, consisting of high-caliber concert and touring musicians all possessing resumes having performed with world-renown artists. The 2004 release entitled “Collaboration” showcased these and other select musicians for their playing, writing, producing, and/or vocals. Tracks from J Michaels’ albums have sold and streamed across six continents in 140 countries. His online music videos, filmed on location in various countries as well as live performances, have gained over 3 million views, earning him devoted fans worldwide.
